What tees do you play?

I'm a 5.2 handicap right now and I'm never sure what tees I should be playing.  I like to play 6,000 yards here in the Seattle area.  Some of my high handicap buddies like to play back as far as possible and let the testosterone fly. (usually they hit it to the women's tee) ha!  I have fun playing the white tees if it's 6,000+, but wonder if I should be challenging myself more.

Is there any kind of handicap/yardage chart out there?

The course I play says 0-7 hcp play the back tees. Above that play the white tees. Back tees 6656, whites 6112. Curiously, I don't score much different from either tees.

I play from 6000 yard tees. Lately I have been thinking about moving back to 6250 though. With summer conditions, I am getting a bit more distance on my drives.

I play what ever tees I feel like I'll have to most fun with. At my college course I'll regularly play the tips (7021) but when I play at the course I do on Sundays I'll play the whites (6100ish)

I played Chambers Bay last year.  On their scorecard, they list driving yardages next to the tee color.  It's kind of cool.

For example...

White tees:  225-250

Sandstone tees:  250-275

I thought it was very helpful to someone playing there their first time.

So what if you don't hit it 225? Are there tees forward of the whites? Geezer tees? I'm almost old enough for the geezer tees.

Strangely enough if I play just over 6000 yards I score mid 90's to low 100's, if I play high 6000's I score mid 90's to low 100's rofl. A lost ball is a lost ball and a missed putt/chip is a missed putt/chip and length of course makes little difference on those bad shots which cost me the most strokes.

I usually play from 6300-6700 yards.  I think that is a good range for me that will test most of the clubs in my bag.

Normally I play the whites, about 6000 yds.

There's one out-of-town course - Eagle Knoll near Columbia MO - where I move back to the blues. It all has to do with the way the holes lay out.

• Three of the par 3s are short drop-shot holes across a lake or creek. Due to the drop, a soft PW is the "right" distance club. But, I hate feathering a wedge going across water. I'd much rather play the blues, and have a full 8i or 7i  into the green.
• On two of the longer Par 4 holes from the whites: one blind drive into a sloping fairway - a good way to lose a ball. The other: whites are 20 feet below the blues in height. On both holes, I can get closer to the green - and not lose a ball - from the blues than whites.
• No. 1 is a position driving hole: whites I hit a 4H, blues a 4W.

So, on a third of the holes, the blues buffer against disaster.

My home course is 6366 from the "tips" which includes a couple of super long 210-ish par 3's.  Works out great for me now and I suspect will be still playable into old age.  A lot of short par 4's but they keep the par 5's honest (500+ yds uphill).

Most courses around here have Blue, White, Gold (sometimes), and Red. Once in a blue moon, if I'm up to it and the course is relatively empty, I'll play the blues. 98% of the time, I'm playing the whites. If I ever dip down under 10 or so, I'll consider moving back a set.

To take this a little bit OT, I see guys way worse than me playing the blues all the time. Guys who I would be surprised if they are shooting under 90 (or 100 even). In fact, when I played Monday after work there were two guys in front of me hitting short, off line drives, followed by shitty second shots, from the blue's! I can never tell if these guys are doing it for kicks, or if they legitimately think they have the game to play from the back tees. I was walking (they were riding), and I was pretty much on their ass. Wasn't even playing that fast either. Hit some practice balls, practiced putting, still caught them on most holes. /rant

I play the whites. Has more to do with my driver (lack of) carry than my handicap, though. On my home course there are a couple of holes that are almost unplayable for me from the back tees.

For the most part we play from the whites. There are times we will play the tips or blue but we try hard to play it forward unless the course is open.

I have heard and not sure if this is true, that the blues are set up for a person with a handicap 10 and lower?

But what ever the case we have fun from the whites.

Tips. I figure I'm going to have plenty of time to play forward when I get older. Although early in the season, I play forward sometimes with my father and the old boys in Myrtle
