I was just wondering what you guys thought of the announcers today.  Nick Faldo and the other guys were basically just making fun of Tiger for quite some time today. I thought it went from observation to childishly poking fun at a golfer who was struggling with his driver.  But then again, that's just my opinion and I was wondering if anybody else saw that and if so what your opinion is.

I just don't think the announcers should be poking fun on national television at any golfer good or bad. That kind of behavior just seems to be really immature to me.  It's especially weird coming from somebody like Faldo who has played the game and knows how hard it is.  I don't know, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way coming from somebody like Faldo who is always talking about golf being a "Gentleman's Game" and all that.  I don't think gentlemen go around making fun of people when they are struggling. Make a comment about it yes, but making jokes? Not cool.

Well if you are a Tiger fan that is good news, because anytime someone challenges or makes fun of Tiger you know what normally happens...

I'm a fan of a lot of these guys and I wouldn't like the announcers doing that to anybody. Especially coming from an ex-player who knows the struggles of the game. But that's my opinion.

Maybe Faldo would like to tee it up with Tiger for some serious money in the near future. Nah, I don't think he wants to lose.

Also, how can Faldo, or any announcer make fun of Tiger..? he has way more titles than they ever will.. ;-)

I always appreciate it when people who really have walked the walk become commentators. Nick Faldo is such a person - he won six majors and he was the golf superstar of his era - as a commentator, few are better placed to offer critique of today's top golfers, including objective criticism of Tiger Woods.

I didn't hear the comments, so I can't address them directly, except to say that "critique" and "poking fun" are not the same thing. It wouldn't be appealing to hear any golfer being made fun of on air, whether Tiger Woods or a weekend duffer.

Yea that is my opinion also.  We all know Tiger and Phil are having issues being accurate off the tee. However, discussing something and acting like a 12 year old and laughing on the air making wise-cracks is another thing altogether.  It's even more idiotic when you are the guy always talking about how golf is a "Gentleman's game".  I'm beginning to not like Faldo a whole lot.  I have been seeing a lot of negative comments regarding Tiger coming from him and the other guy Johnny Miller I think. I know he's not the most personable person but to use your microphone to constantly demean the guy is rather childish.

I'm actually watching right now, haven't noticed and Tiger just pushed one way right no laughing whatsoever. You might be talking about his drive on 2 that was 80 yds left on a par 5 and he puts it on the green from there. That's what they were laughing at, in amazement. There was no intent to demean and it was far from immature.

I think Faldo's generally an ass, but him or any other announcer making wisecracks about the performance of tour players doesn't bother me at all. I enjoy that stuff if it's funny.

Those guys are pros and it comes with the territory – particularly for someone who's had as much success as Woods has. As long as people aren't babbling, hollering, etc. during their shots, I'm fine with it.

I have it recorded and I'm watching it also.  They weren't laughing in amazement because he put it on the green.  They were laughing before and after that.  Also making jokes about which way they thought the next tee shot was going. Yes they eventually stopped but I thought the jokes were in poor taste.

Yes I guess that is one way to look at it.  I think maybe I just don't like Faldo.  He just rubs me the wrong way 90% of the time for some reason. Him and miller that is.

Eh, I watched it, and it all seemed fine to me. I think Tiger would laugh at those shots too. Pretty bad. He missed not only his fairway but the one beside it off the second tee, after all.

Nah, they weren't "jokes" and I'd bet if Tiger heard them talking about it, he'd laugh himself. I say this being a Faldo fan, however, so perhaps I'm a little biased? Just didn't hear anything inappropriate.

Faldo is a class A ball buster. I remember during the 2012 Masters, he was proposing Bubba's championship dinner for 2013 would be a Happy Meal, and coloring books with crayons IIRC.

Watching live world golf on sky and it is being run as a virtual Tiger Woods testimonial He was the worlds best he is not now the worlds best and frankly his on course manner edges from tasteless to lacking in Grace/charm (me being polite) We have to hope he is in the USA team ;-)

    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
    • I run tournaments and want to put in a local rule that allows relief from tree roots and rocks that are not loose impediments. We have some really terrible lies in some of our courses in my area and nobody is getting paid enough to break clubs. Let me know if you think the verbage for this rule makes sense. Local Rule Roots and Rocks You may move your ball from a tree root or buried rock one club length for free relief no closer to the hole. However you may not use this rule to get relief from a tree, bush, boulder, or other foliage hindering your swing. Your only option here is to play it as it lies or take an unplayable for a one stroke penalty.
    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
