Yeah, I like how he is playing, First of all it is good to see him being followed by cameras again, wasn't happening much last year. It seems he has more confidence now, also in his game with the shorter clubs. And still you have the feeling he can find another higher gear, which is good, considering how he is playing now. Lets hope he does not have a bad round and thus is able to be in contention this weekend.

-5 today, and in the mix for a top position and the win tomorrow. Very good score, but have to admit: was hoping for more (was at -4 after the first 5 holes already). Nevertheless a good score and a good position for tomorrow. Three shots back from the leader.

Luiten his last round was under par as well, but -1 was not enough to battle for victory: T8. His 2016 start however is his best ever: 2x T5, T8 and T13. If he continues to play like this the battles for win will come.

Starting tomorrow Luiten plays the Maybank Championship Malaysia. After this tournament is the cut-off for the WGC Cadillac Championship, where he has good memories. If he wants to play there he needs to be in the top 50 of the OWGR or the top 10 of The Race to Dubai after this weekend. That first might be difficult (a win could do the trick, but not sure) but that second might be more realistic. If I calculate correctly a top 5 in this tournament might let Joost raise to the top 10 in the Race to Dubai. Let's hope he has a good tournament and we'll see him in the first WGC of the season after all...

Interesting, every tournament he seems to go through a similar pattern, two or three good rounds and one par or bogey round.

Additionally, his ball striking is not a concern.  More pertinently it seems to be his finishing (on and around the green primarily where he is not gaining strokes, rather than losing strokes.  He seems to manage a lot of pars with GIR and two putts and never seems to be able to capitalize on hitting a GIR.

Hope he is able to make it to the WGC.  Would have to be the RTD route unless he wins in Malaysia and that propels him into the top 50, with the added proviso that people in the top 50 play badly before the WGC qualification cut-off.

Like the beard he has grown off late and glad he is getting some airtime these days

Not a good first round (+1)

Impressive performance from Luiten today. After 10 holes he was at level par and below the cut line, but at the remaining eight holes he scored -4. Big jump, inside the top 30 now and looking forward to the weekend. Reaching the first WGC of the season is still possible.

After a -1 today (T25), Joost will need a really, really good round tomorrow and then still be depended on the rounds of others above in. A good position is still possible, but reaching his goal and qualify for Doral will be very difficult if not impossible.

Luiten finished T15, and therefor didn't qualify for the first WGC tournament of the year. His next goal is to qualify for the Matchplay Championship; for that he will need to be in the top 64 of the OWGR (currently 75th).

Nice fact: in his 5 European Tour starts in this season, Luiten finished all of them in the top 15 (three of which in the top 10 including two top 5's). It seems like he's on the way back.

Two tournaments in a row for Luiten. This week the Thailand classic, and next week the Indian Open. He has good memories playing in Asia, his first tournament win there and a fine performance at the EurAsia Cup. He hopes to qualify for the WGC Matchplay, he needs some good results to do that. Both tournaments are part of the European Tour.

Luiten at T16 into the weekend. Good score, could have been a lot better (33 and 34 putts is too much). 17/18 GIR today.

17/18 GIR sounds very good, too bad his putter is letting him down... Again

With the wind blowing hard Luiten shoots -2 and at T11 into the final round. Again no bogeys, unfort. a unnecessary double bogey on 15.

Again a top 10 for Luiten, after finishing 6th. If he manages to improve his putting he'll be in the mix.

He is doing well so far this season, quite some high finishes. He is not really in contention for the victory, but what a difference compared to last season. If his putter is going to cooperate he can be in contention. Lets hope he can qualify for the matchplay tournament.

Impressive season so far:

Luiten’s impressive campaign to date sees him behind only Charl Schwartzel and Rory McIlroy in the European Tour stroke average category with 69.4, and the 30 year old has finished in the top 15 in every one of his six appearances so far.

Joost is 12th in the Greens in Regulation category on the European Tour this season, averaging nearly 14 a round, and he is a cumulative 59 under par from those six events.

Can Luiten make it 7 out of 7 so far in this season?

Unfortunately the Indian Open is in Delhi (north of the country) and I am in Bangalore (south of the country) but otherwise would so want to watch the Indian Open and Joost live.  Apparently the highest ranked player and draw is Padraig but work and distance rule out watching the tournament live so will have to make do with minimal sleep so that I can watch live on TV.

Interesting to see whether Joost might perhaps need to consider a coach (putting or mental) or even a small change in putting technique because he seems unable to putt well wherever he is playing.  That seems to be the main thing keeping him at 5 to 20 position as opposed at 1 to 5 position in all tourneys
