He probably would have been great. What sucks is that he won the Wales Open like a week after the Ryder Cup teams were picked

I think what is probably a bit annoying regarding the cup is that unlike Gallacher, Luiten did have a matchplay record, and had also scored heavily paired with Dubuisson when playing Seve Trophy I think it was? Gallacher's selection  was poor I felt, and I tend to think McGinley got off the hook a bit. They said he was a course specialist, but Molinari and certainly Casey, both had superior Gleneagles records.

It also returns me a little bit to this issue of timing (even less excuse for Europe as the home team). Europe could easily have delayed their decision until a week before and with Gallacher missing the cut at Celtic Manor, super Joost must have been right in the frame

Like the idea of him being a movie villian though. He does have a bit of the northern European chill about him

It's cool you guys say this. When I made a case for Luiten that he should be in the Ryder Cup team as a captain's pick I was accused of being blinded by Joost love. Which might be true ofcourse. Fact is that his match play record is tremendous, and he's showing it again the last couple of days, ánd the weeks prior to the Ryder Cup he finished 4th, 5th and won at Celtic Manor (not an easy course). His year is much better than any of the other captain's picks in my opinion.

But what's done is done. He didn't qualify from the ranking so based on that he simply was not good enough. I believe he could have been a valuable asset to the team but the captain decided otherwise. I'm very happy to see he's performing so well, hopefully he will reach at least the semi's since then it's really getting interesting in points and money. Ofcourse a win would be awesome, but let's not get carried away. First Larrazabal; normally Luiten would be a better player, but in match play anything can happen plus form of the day is more important then ever.

Everybody loves a good handshake snap. Joost Luiten is the only man to win all three of his group matches, with two of those victories going down to the wire.

Personally I was always in the Donald camp, but had Super Joost penciled in next. Not sure whether I posed it here or elsewhere but in terms of the third wildcard I had the following

Donald, Luiten, Molinari, Lowry, Casey and Gallacher (in that order)

Had we been allowed to select a team (something I suspect that we could easily see within the decade as common practise) then Joost would have made my last place instead of Bjorn. I do remember saying to someone when they asked me who I thought would win that Europe had got something close to their best team, whereas America might actually be able to field a better team of players who aren't available

Would a team of Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Jason Dufner, Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk, Ryan Palmer, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Na, Ryan Moore (plus three others!) have beaten the team they sent over? Well we don't know of course, but the fact that you could ask the question in all seriousness is an indication that something is broken

Anyway, before Joost mania takes grip, we do perhaps need to remember that all he's done so far is play slightly ahead of his seeding. He was expected to get to this stage. Larazabal will be dangerous, he's one of those streaky sorts who you need to break early. I think Joost needs to play the player a little bit here

Winning 6&5 against three time ET winner Larrazabal, Luiten continues to shine and will find himself in the semi final tomorrow morning. His match play record continues to be impressive, and in the past four days he shot 27 birdies and 1 eagle. Go Joost!

Only slightly in the looks IMO. I get the feeling that Joost is a really goofy dude, whereas Langer is basically just a robot.

Quite an achievement, the standard of play was very high. He's clearly an improving player. It would be nice if the Anglo-Saxon commentators would bother to learn how to pronounce his surname, though.

He played with other Frenchmen Gregory Bourdy in the Seve Trophy. Joost would have been a good pick i think. Just think the ryder cup was on his mind a bit too much, so he put to much pressure on himself. And he didn't play great in the majors, 2 missed cuts and didn't finish in the top 25 in the PGA and Masters.

I'm sure he will make the 2016 team.

According to his website, Luiten will play all the tournaments in the final series. That means four tournaments in November, each of them with a purse of $ 7 million or more. Also he will play Nedbank again in the beginning of December (that tournament counts for the 2015 season if I'm not mistaken), after which no golf for a month.

You're right. I understood he will play 12 tournaments on the PGA Tour, and if I'm not mistake that doesn't include the majors and the WGC's he will play no matter what. Together with his caddy and the rest of his team they will decide which tournaments to play and which not, since his caddy has more knowlegde about the courses and if they suit Joost his play.

Starting Thursday Luiten will play the BMW Masters in Shanghai, the first tournament of The Final Series.
