Welcome to the forum.  That is a very nice swing.  It has many of the elements of a good swing.  I am not an instructor, but I will take a shot at a quick analysis.

Below is a screen shot of the top of your backswing, A4, and position A6 (downswing where the shaft is parallel to the ground). The red lines represent where your head and left hip were at address.  As you can see, you get your weight forward very far.  Maybe too far.  Most people, including me have the opposite problem of not getting the weight far enough forward.

What this does is move the low point of your swing forward.  It usually is where your left shoulder is at set up.   The second screen shot shows A1, set up and A7 impact.  The line is where the low point would be if you didn't move your head forward.

Because you have shifted forward, you are coming in a bit steeper at impact delofting the head and still swinging out at impact.  This could cause the low hooks.

Check out Key #1 in the link below.  You can also, for the meantime, just move the ball a bit more forward at set up.  A good drill to practice is draw a line on the ground on grass as if it were a ball.  Then make swings along that line and see where the divots start with respect to the line.  If they are way in front of the line, then move the ball forward a bit and see how it affects your ball flight.

You have a very nice swing and not a lot to correct in my opinion.

I haven't seen your swing but judging by the pictures @boogielicious posted, you're going to want to spend some time doing what's called "getting your arms down faster."

@boogielicious Thanks for the reply. The reason I exaggerated my weight shift is because I used to turn, not slide my hips and thus my right foot comes up too early too much in the swing before impact. In the A6 position, it seemed that my right armpit and elbow seems disconnected from my body. Should I be tucking it in my swing?

@iacas Any tips or drills to "get my arms down faster"?

The right elbow doesn't look too bad at A6, but that swing though may help you get the arms down faster.

To make swing changes, start by going slow as in the thread below.  If you can work in front of a mirror, that will help a lot.  I go through the positions first A1, A2 etc. and stop at each.  Then I will do something like go A1 to A5 and stop.  This is what my instructor has me doing right now.

Send in a video of a slow motion swing if you can.

Something which helped me get more consitent is matching my shoulder turn on the backswing with my arm swing. As you come to the end of your shoulder turn your arms are travelling longer and longer.


Man, you average a 101 with that swing? Have you ever practiced putting or short game in your life? You have some excellent moves in that swing, IMO!

Exactly what I was thinking.  Based on the videos I would have guessed you were a mid-80s player or better.  Regardless, with that swing you should be able to get there pretty fast even if you're shooting 100s now, solid base with a lot of good things going on

I've been working on keeping my head down through out my down swing.

One thing that I tried to do was to rotate my head to the right. In keeping it, I was able to prevent my head from following the shoulder turn on the downswing (resulting in moving head). Please let me know any comments? Appreciate it!

Note I just realized that the ball seems to be at my back foot. However this is only a camera angle as I've made sure to position my ball in towards more front from the middle. I'll try to correct the angles next time. Meanwhile, here's 5i DTL.

Any comments? I realize DTL is that my club is pointing way to the right of target during top of backswing. Any suggestions?


iacas is correct re: getting your arms down faster. You also need to get your shoulders rotating more around your spine angle in the downswing. In other words, the trail shoulder works down and out during the downswing. You have too much down and not enough out. This leads to attacking the ball too much from the inside and fat shots, pushes, & hooks.To work on this, you may need to feel like you are swinging "over the top."

Compare shoulder alignments and levels.

Got it. So two things I will work on is getting my arms down faster, and out to in feeling (to get shoulders parallel). Regarding getting my arms down faster, I think instead I would try to slow down and restrict my hip slide so my arms could catch up. Right now the feeling that I have during my downswing is passive arms that follows the hip slide. (I've read in a few places to let gravity take over in the downswing) Would the arms need to be more active in the role? (consciously pulling down the arms). Will try to get better video up soon.

Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
