Having struggled to appreciate the immature Rickie I have in recent months taken very much to this suddenly mature intelligent young man His golf has progressed to within a single improvement to being the challenger to all comers in major honours pursuit True that final step is the toughest to achieve in golf, total focus whilst achieving relaxed approach Whilst making the move into the top ten is difficult the move to winner of majors (plural) is 100per cent reserved for those who are able to relax the body staying confident and single minded in operation Good luck Rickie

Incredible picture

2-3 years ago I never thought I'd be rooting for this guy. Funny how things change. Going to be fun to watch him (hopefully) keep getting better over the next few years.

Needs to learn how to close. Shot par golf on Sunday when all he needed to do was shoot 2-3 under - could not get it done.

Seems like a nice lad.

I'm in the group of guys who previously thought he was all about hype and gaudy clothes, but I've developed a real respect for him as a golfer and a person, to the exrent that I wouldnt have been too upset if he'd beaten McIlroy on Sunday. Believe me, as a fan who's followed Rory at amateur tournaments in Ireland since he was 14, that is a huge swing, but I do believe he is very good for golf and will only improve under Butch. Anyone who can putt so unerringly from 6-8 feet under pressure will always be a threat.

Crazy to think his new mechanics have held up under pressure - it's hasnt even been a full 8 months since he hired Harmon.

I think the great thing about his new mechanics is that they seem more fundamentally sound with fewer things that can go wrong- I think this is at least part of the reason why he is holding up pretty well under pressure along with some very good clutch putting under 10 feet (as noted by FarWest).

Have heard some good stories about the "old Ricky" that were pretty good.  I really not care for the flashy clothes, but the kid has major game and is maturing before our eyes.  The best thing for golf is for him, Spieth, and some other young guys to take the torch and be the guys who chase Rory much like Phil and some others did with Tiger.  Although I think his injuries have done him in, someone like Anthony Kim was good because of his cockiness.  I know some folks hate Reed but I like his spunk and confidence.  Golf needs some good guys and "bad guys" to follow.  The golf traditionalist would not agree.  They want Adam Scott's all over the tour which is fine but to draw in new fans and better ratings Golf needs some edge to it.

Guys like Bubba are great for the game if they can embrace things better and be more fan friendly.  I have no problem with a guy saying he believes he is a top 5 player.  I do not like a guy who whines and cries about everything all the while they get to play the greatest game at a high level and make a lot of money doing it.  If not for the fans and media following them, they would have no sponsors and would be like the rest of us playing at local public or private clubs.

His teenage appearance his interviews which are now so more mature and odd items in his swing that were idiosyncratic rather than considered for the winning long term

Having a bit of attitude when he was asked to face his hat forward at Augusta might be one example. Maybe more punk-ish than immature...but I do think he's been humbled and matured over the last few years.

Well I have always thought it unfair to rag on him for his appearance being that the PGA Tour used him to attract younger kids to the game. And as far as his interviews I havent noticed what you speak of but maybe he's more comfortable in front of the camera as he's getting older.
