This last outing was great, as usual, and I think we should start planning our next one for the fall. We seem to being doing these every three months or so which would put us sometime in November.

It had been discussed that we could possibly do this next one out in my direction (Palm Springs area).

I was looking at possibly Escena, which is in Palm Springs. There are obviously some other great options in the desert, but going into November, prices start to go WAY up. Escena is a really solid course and the price should be reasonable.

The Sundays in November are the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th; I'd like to pick a date that would work well for the majority as I want a bigger turnout than we've had at the last few. I was also thinking that if we do have it out here, that we'd do a slightly later tee time since it is a little further for everybody; maybe tee off around noon or so.

Let me know what you all think.

BTW, here is the website for the course I was thinking of: http://escenagolf.com.

T,

Course looks great, all for going your way, you always have a drive so this would give you a chance to keep it local.

I would prefer Sat at the same time again, this worked out well for us. But open to what ever the group wants to do.

Saturday was nice, however, in talking to the guy at Escena, we'll get a much better rate on Sunday.

I'm totally on board for a Palm Springs outing, and I am sure that you won't steer us wrong with the course.

However, I'm going to be pretty iffy in November because I'll have an 8 1/2 months pregnant wife.  I'm probably going to have to stay on the fence for this one until the very end.

I know I am the new guy ... And not from So Cal ... But Palm Springs makes it doable for us in Phx ... The 23rd would be hard ... Isn't that close to Thanksgiving?

Yeah, that would be the Sunday prior ... Thanksgiving is on 11/27 this year.

P.S.  It doesn't matter if you're from Socal or not ... if you're coming you have a say. (Which is why I'm not really voting on dates because I can't commit to any of them yet)

Wow that course looks super fun. I could probably make any of those dates, but the earlier ones would be better if it makes a difference. Again, not picky.

Excuse my ignorance, I've never been a part of a golf outing...how does it usually go? Is it a tournament?

Thanks for including me in the email btw @tristanhilton85

I'd say it's a bit more casual than a typical tournament. Each group plays against the others in a modified stableford game where the best 3 of 4 scores count on each hole. Usually there is some sort of prize for the winning team and MVP.

It'd be great to have you along if you can make it. The one issue with the earlier dates is that, at least that course, will be cart path only. However, that means that it would be a bit cheaper as well.

Earlier is probably better for me as well. We will be in Chicago for Thanksgiving, which could affect my availability both the 23rd and 30th, depending on how long we stay.

@BENtSwing32 , it's probably best described as a semi-competitive outing. Everyone's trying to play their best, but no one takes it too seriously. Plus, it's always nice to put a face to a screen name with a handful of other guys on the site. Hope you can make it.

How about 26 October? That's almost November, still in the cheaper price range, and would increase @Golfingdad 's chances. That weekend also happens to work for me (as would 2 November but I'm out after that).

Guys we are in for what ever the date ends up being. Don't like the cart path only part, that always seems to be a cluster.

I may be able to join this one?  My Father-in-Law is planning on visiting my wife and I around Thanksgiving (dates have yet to be confirmed).  Knowing that, my availability would be better toward the beginning of November, and would be worse the closer we get to T-Day.

It'd be great to have you back at one of these events. The earlier dates seem to be better for everybody, so I guess we'll go that way. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, we may run into the issue of the courses out here being cart path only because nearly all of them overseed in October and are just barely reopened. I'm going to check a couple of other courses around here and see what they say.

If I could schedule it, the earlier the better -  mid to late Oct would be attractive.

Once people get into mid-November, the holidays start appearing in minds, and honey-do's...

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
