Yeah, the stupid thing about this is they've basically already done this… it's their score versus the average minus their strokes gained putting.

So if you shoot 3.2 better than the average, and gain 0.472 strokes putting that round, your "tee to green" strokes gained is 2.728.

No. Just pointing out that it's a pretty lame statistic. :-)

I am sure this stat will be useful to someone. Not sure who, or why, but..........someone.  I wonder if the players even care about this stat.

When I read the article I thought don't they make the stat available already? What's the big deal? CBS iirc sometimes mentions some of the strokes gained numbers.

Do you think they will do something along that line or will they attempt to separate out short game shots in order to get another stat, Strokes Gained in Recovery?  I would think that eventually we will end up with strokes gained stats for a lot of pieces of the game.  Shotlink gives them the data and computers can slice and dice it many ways.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with the other posters.  Total putts, fairways hits and many other stats. are pretty useless because -- for example --  a poor iron player that is chipping onto most greens will of course have a fewer putts than the player that is on in regulation.  I very much welcome the total strokes gained presented as a statistic.  I've used this system to track my own game and for once I have meaningful statistics.  Yes, it's a bit esoteric, but once you understand the system it's pretty useful.

I only see one guy disagreeing. I'm pretty sure @iacas will agree it's useful as do I. It just sounds like redundant PR is the point I'm making. Bring on the strokes gained stats I say.

Yes, probably Driving, Approach Shots (various distances), "Short Game" (Broadie draws the line at 100 yards; I disagree with that as you've probably read), and putting.

He can separate things out there too: strokes gained bunkers, etc.

I haven't seen many people disagree.

I don't. This one's just redundant. It's your score versus the field average minus putts gained.
