Driver: B-, first half of the round I tried to kill the ball and had horrible contact. Specifically early extension, and hitting the bottom of the clubface. Second half I decided to swing at 70% and I hit some great drives coming in.

Irons: D, still struggling with contact. My partial wedges are still chunky or blade-ish. I am not taking a divot and hitting a lot of irons thin. Things just feel flippy at impact.

Pitching: D, still thinning/blading pitch shots. Very troublesome.

Putting: B+, one of the bright spots

Surprised I didn't bump into you out there.

Driver definitely getting better. Duck hook on #2, but otherwise not too bad. Had 2 chunked long iron shots, one off tee and the other was a hybrid from the rough on a par 5. One 3 putt on 8. Didn't really line it up since the rain started coming down pretty hard and my rain gear was in my bag.

First time out this year not as terrible as I thought I would be, only got to play 8 holes because of slow play and we had to go. Had a fall apart hole, on 3 bad tee shot led to hitting a tree, to hitting another tree, should have been on the green in no more than 3 hits.

Had a great lesson this morning, then drove across town, grabbed a hot dog and played 18.   After a slow start, I really hit it quite decent.  My favorite was hole 14 - dogleg right around water, 300 yards to clear the water (very downwind mind you) and even though I was aiming left, I crushed and pushed it right at the water ... but cleared it!  302 all carry.

I suck at this game. I don't even know what to say about it anymore.

This was one of the best rounds if not the best round of my life.  There were about 20 mph winds all day an I still put together a good score(well a good score for me).  Ive struggled at this course the 2 previous times Ive played their so the redemption was great.  Im hitting my new driver very well and my short game was very good.  I did notice that  I need work on my long irons.  I hit my 6 & 5 iron like $hit all day.

44 at Kittyhawk (Hawk) front 9. One of these days, I'm going to play an entire round.

Driver getting longer. Still a little ducky on some and blocks to the right on others, but the trajectory is higher. 3 wood and long irons from the fairway is still killing me.

Tee boxes were super hairy and my tees weren't long enough so my driving was pretty poor. Iron game was very sharp though. Next time I play this course I'm playing the whites because the back tees are at ridiculous angles The 10th hole had a chute about 15yards wide with a branch hanging across most of the top, forcing me to play the 4wood back in the stance stinger type tee shot. Very happy with how I was able to handle the craziness.

Played 14 at Chautauqua's Lake course.

Shot 55. Made a lot of pars. And one birdie. :P

Shot a very rusty 86 today, lots of short approaches and more sand shots than the last half of 2014. I went to review the round and GameGolf, in its infinite wisdom, decided that rather than play the holes in order tee to green I putted the ball from #6 green to #7 tee, played three shots on the wrong direction and then sunk a 400yd putt for quintouple bogey back on #6 (opting not to play #7 at all). I emailed them to point out the curiosity and will post my actual round once they or I get things straightened out.

Shot 86 with A LOT of three putts. Easily could have been 79 instead.

They got the issue straightened out this morning (they said they " made some updates to the mapping" but I have no idea what that actually means).

My biggest issues:

1. Half of my drives were 220 or less (last year's average was 260), two of my longer drives were off line and put me behind a tree, also hit one fairway bunker.

2. Middle irons were atrocious. Only hit 5 greens, hit into 4 greenside bunkers, and left myself only one decent birdie putt (5ft).

Last two times out.

The 82 was probably the best I've played all year. Honestly caught some tough breaks. Hit sand 3 times in 3 holes and each time due to wind pushing it or a bad bounce. Every lie was bad, one against the back lip on dirt and weeds that looked to be part of an ongoing bunker maintenance. Hacking it out of there was really the best shot I hit all day, missed the par save by an inch. Next hole the a cross wind pushed it left and it hit in front of the green and bounced sideways barely rolling back to where the grass and sand meet behind the back lip again. Then again on the following hole found the ball resting on the back edge not in the bunker but my stance was below ball in sand. Choked down and caught it thin so missed the green long. Tired of playing in the wind.

Dave :-)

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
