89 at a Pete Dye course.  I only hit one GIR but I was near for many more (my scorecard isn't in the room right now, I figure I can go check;  I'll add it as a comment to my round on GG).  Had some good up and downs and a few wedge shots (including one full one) to within a foot or two.  Also missed some short putts and had three holes where I didn't follow The Rule On Short Game Shots.

Had a little bit of everything. Two over after one, one under after three, a topped 3-wood, some good up-and-downs… Long putts, a cart path on 8 (which actually probably hurt my positioning)…

Played really well. Made a bit of mess of a par 3 when I over clubbed and then got too cute with my chip. Could have been lower if I made more than 1 of my 4 birdie putts from inside 15 feet, but that's golf. None of them were bad putts, just from difficult spots.

Teed off with my 4 iron a few times on short (~350 yd) par 4s and it worked out quite well keeping it in the fairway 5/6 holes. Driver has had some huge misses lately need to figure that out, but ball striking with irons is probably the best its ever been.

Played in my gross match play tournament.  Shot 69 and won 4&3.  Hit some loose irons on the par 3's but hit some great wedges.  Only converted a couple of them to birdies though.

One bogey which I had to take an unplayable out of a bush.  Other than that it was a very stress-free round.

Greens were a little slow from overnight rain but otherwise the course was in great shape. Completely lost control of my start lines on the front 9. Figured out what the problem was after the tee shot on 12 and made an adjustment, finishing 1-over for the last 6 holes with a birdie. Those 6 holes could have been even lower, too, because I missed a few makeable putts between 6-10' for par, birdie, and par, respectively. 48-39, it's like two completely different people played the round today.

So so ball striking, but good enough to get 5-6 GIR. Didn’t sink any putts though.

Three GIRs, seven I think near-GIRs... made seven pars total opponent four worse-than-bogeys.  Not pictured: hole 18, which was over before I was even to the green.  Situation was match play.

One of those weird weather days. Started the round at a cool 65°F with dew on the course, finished the round at a humid 85°F. Very little breeze at all. Greens started off slow, then got progressively faster as the day went on. You'd think I'd be used to playing like this by now because I usually play in the mornings, but I still have difficulty adjusting to changing green speeds.

I can't say I really hit the ball great, but my misses just weren't that bad - even thinned a 5i on 8 for GIR. I did struggle to hit a good shot off the tee until the 9th hole, though. I could have scored better if my putting was better. Short game was actually really good today. The only bad shot I hit around the greens was one I had to hack out of fescue that ended up rolling off the green sloping away from me.

Looking overall, I really only played poorly on one 3-hole stretch (4, 5, 6), but the rest of the round was pretty good.

-Edit: I just checked my insights. My short game wasn't pretty good, it was great (0.19 strokes lost to scratch).

Oops, didn't post the first two rounds of my golf trip:

* June 28 2018 at the Pete Dye Course at Mission Hills resort http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Shindig/round/2251310

* June 29 2018 at Mesquite Country Club;  personal best round of the season (so far), two off my best-ever, nothing worse than bogey, had the best short game round of my life by far (strokes gained vs scratch) http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Shindig/round/2253358

I'll try to be sure to post tomorrow's round promptly :-)

Great conditions. Neshanic is always in great shape and because of the heat today, the greens rolled well. Didn't have that major change of speed problem like I had during yesterday's round though they did speed up a little bit as play went on. I'm amazed at how much better I am at putting on faster greens.

I played really well despite a couple of blow-up holes. I picked up on 16 after hitting two worm burners into the fescue in front of the tee box and not being able to find either ball, so that hole (25) is made up shots that add up to ESC. Ended up shooting 40-44 for an 11.0 differential.

  • Hit a lot of drivers off the heel.
  • Course was weirdly wet.
  • Hit some great shorter irons. 9-irons were good.
  • Hit a few weird shots. Bigger pulls. That sort of thing.
  • Not quite comfortable yet at game speed with the pieces. I'll get back to it again, but… the month off from the injury didn't help me at all.
  • I love fast greens. So good on the shorter putts.

I don't love the Rogue a ton. I like the Epic more. I heel the Rogue a lot.

Hot and humid. Storms last night softened the course up some, but it wasn't swampy, except for the gnats. Boy were there a lot of gnats.

I struggled with my ballstriking. Everything was just a little off. Even a couple of good hits ended up flying the green - it was that kind of day. It was an absolute grind just to salvage a 90 out of this round while taking 5 penalties (one S&D) and having to hit a number of shots out of the fescue. I didn't play 15 correctly but at that point I didn't care anymore. Lost a ball in the fescue and just decided to drop in it with a stroke penalty instead of going back to the tee. Had to take an unplayable on 16 and might have touched poison ivy getting the ball out from under the tree. It was that kind of day.

\Weird thing happened on 18, I hit it 20 yards right of where it ended up (straight into the woods), hooked a provisional, then I started walking down the hole figuring I was done for the day and there my first ball was just sitting in the fairway. I'm not sure how it managed to kick that hard out through all those trees, but it kind of showed how I was hitting the ball today (first shot missed hard right, re-tee missed hard left). So even though my original ball was in play, I never found my provisional ball and lost a ball anyway. It was that kind of day.

Hole 6 looks like you had an adventure..  Hole 10 must be tighter than it looks?  Seems like a good one to be able to attack, but depending on your day I could see not wanting to hit driver there..

My league round.  My 9 hole handicap here is around a 5 or 6, currently a 6, so shot 1 under net par.  Kinda blew up on the last three holes though, was really hoping to break 40 again but got in my head and a little bad luck...  But it was kind of a windy day for here, and I was putting really well for myself except for one muscled putt on hole 7 so that helps when you're close but not as close as you want to be.  Also, this was the first time hitting directly over the cart shed on hole 1...  Normally I'm nowhere near that so it was an adventure...

8 GIR, 4 near GIR, plus two greens hit from afar but not for GIR, one with a full U wedge and one with a 4 hybrid.

No range warm up today, hit maybe 5 minutes worth of putts.  Struggled with putter speed all day... and also hit one or two putts fat. :-(

The fun surprise was hole 10, where I had a good lie after my tee shot and after hitting my second shot (hit the green, but like 40+ feet away from the pin, which is fine) I discovered I had to carry a water hazard on my second shot.  Kinda glad I didn't know that before I hit that great shot, I might have found a way to mess it up :-)

Interesting round. Due to late amounts of rain the course got, we teed it forward so I was looking forward to scoring quite well, but didn't. I really should have scored much better, but my "around the green game" was bad ESPECIALLY from one particular greenside bunker.

Strokes Lost (to scratch):

Driving: 4.4 (below average day, but not the worst)

Approach: 10.03 (Average day for my HI, but worse than I have hit it the last month or so. Only 3 GIRS)

Short Game: 8.1 (hahahaha so so so very bad. This destroyed any hopes of having a good scoring round)

Putting: 0.9 (Putted out of my mind today. Putted like a 2 or 3 cap. I had 3 birdie putts and made 2)

Got off to a good start then made a silly double on 7. Gave myself a lot of opportunities, putted ok. After traveling and not touching a club for two weeks I figured there would be some rust with the shorter shots.
