Oh hogwash. I can hit a baseball 300 feet and I'm hardly the physical specimen Tiger Woods is. Heck, I can hit a softball 300 feet and my driver swing speed is a good 20 MPH less than Tiger's.

Being a physical specimen doesn't denote a good hitter... You can give Lance Armstrong a bat or a driver and that doesn't mean he will hit well with them. The question is how far he could hit a HR, quite frankly I don't feel he would more often then doing so. Like you said you can hit it 300 feet, but is that just once. and off of what kind of pitching ? what kind of bat? Aluminum or wood? if we are speculating that given "x" amount of pitches in "y" environment, Tiger can hit a HR? then yes, Tiger is physically capable of doing it once or twice. hell maybe more, but my point is just because of his torque and swing speed with a golf club, that would translate into baseball power. That simply is a false statement. it certainly would help but doesnt make the orginal statement of this thread true.

There was no original "statement" made - the OP asked a question - and I'm tired of this discussion. It's pointless.

Well I don't know much about baseball but I think it is an interesting question. I think that because Tiger has remarkable hand eye coordination and is probably as strong as alot of baseball's big hitters, given some time he could really smack it. I can't give a distance because I don't even know how long a home run normally is.

The beauty of baseball (and golf) is that there is no normalcy when it comes to playing fields...that said, a HR typically ranges from 300 - 400 ft depending on left, center, and right (center being typically the longest).

400 feet? Wow, I didn't realize that was the dimensions in baseball. I can get that with my 5-iron. It might be just a pitching wedge for Tiger.

Yes, I'm aware of equipment differences between the sports. I just thought it was funny. Now, where's that picture of the par-3 set up to look like a baseball diamond?

Hehe, the closest I've seen is that stadium style hole at the FBR open this year (the 16th i think?)...I remember the entire place goin nuts for Phil when he walked up to the tee, but then proceeded to boo when he missed the green...made me laugh :)

The mechanics of a golf swing are almost identical to that of a baseball swing. Weight on back foot, open hips, keep hands close, elbow in, flat through the power zone. Mechanically, I think he would be fine. The problem is that, you know, the ball is moving 90 MPH and it's not straight.

With some practice, I think he'd probably hit a baseball at 325.

To the poster who wrote, "I can hit a softball 300 feet"....sure you could.

Some of us remember when Jordan, while avoiding gambling charges, tried to make the White Sox.....not very pretty. Jordan was and probably is still a better athlete than Tiger....Woods better stick to golf.
Also.....I really dont get the comments that people make about Tiger being a great athlete? he's a golfer who spend some time in the gym....do they really think he would stand up to....for example as mentioned above Jordan in basketball? or say a track and field guy? and I know he can't skate....just venting alittle, I"m just always amazed when I hear he is so athletic.

It's a big difference between baseball and golf...golf, you hit a stationary ball off a tee. Baseball, you have to swing with exact timing...then to put it at a professional level (timing has to be even better). Besides, you aren't swinging lightweight golf clubs anymore, wooden bats weigh a bit more. You can't even compare the two honestly.

Tiger recently took BP off of his good friend and -2 handicap pitcher John Smoltz. He got some hits, the report did not say if he had any homeruns.

He has the ability to swing the bat hard enough, and the coordination. Just a matter of catching one. I think he could have that smooth Ken Griffey Junior like swing if he worked on it.

Lets say George Steinbrenner forked over $1,000,000,000 to Tiger Woods to play for the Yankees...how far do you think he could hit a homerun? 450 ft? 500 ft? 300 yards?

Either zero feet or as long as anything Dave Kingman hit.

Hitting a fast ball and a golf ball are different. He could go 0 for the season.

I doubt he'd go 0.000 for an entire season (and i bet every one of us would not go 0.000 for an entire season assuming we got regular playing time)...granted - hitting a stationary object and a moving object are not the same thing, but it is (nonetheless) HITTING A BALL.

My original question, however, was to gauge how far he'd hit a homerun if he hit it on the sweet spot. BTW - IACAS (oh almighty admin and 'golf podcast specialist')...is this still a pointless thread?

I'll agree with you on everything.

1. This is a pointless thread 2. Tiger could hit a baseball 700 feet 3. I could hit one 385 feet 4. Hey, if we're involved in pointless speculation, I'm as pointless as it gets 5. Tiger could also play wide receiver or corner for the Falcons 6. Tiger could run a 4.3 40 7. Tiger could average 11 assists for the Suns 8. Tiger could run a 3.8 minute mile 9. Tiger could become President after he retires from golf 10. Tiger could set every record in every sport

    • Just want to share a quick update with everyone. I went to the range the week before last, even though I took it easy no significant pain occurred just a slight twinge when I swung my #4 hybrid. The most encouraging news was no soreness the next morning. However I think switching back to graphite shafts is definitely gonna happen, my mp15's were fitted with X shafts and having something lighter will help.
