My Progress w/Overspeed Training Using SuperSpeedGolf

@cedrictheo , The SuperSpeedGolf sticks are also probably better for the switch over to swinging left handed.  My wife is not that excited about me using her new Callaway driver to work out with.

Is this SuperSpeed Golf protocol you are doing, is it every day?  Or, like other exercise routines, are there off/recovery days?

@No Mulligans It is the SuperSpeedGolf Protocol 1 that I am doing. For the first 3 weeks I will be doing it every other day (1 rest day). Then I will be on a golf trip for 4 days. When I get back I plan to move on to some of the other protocols they have and may give my body a bit more rest between workouts.

Tonight was my first time doing the protocol in 10 days due to weather, and was really surprised, hit a new  all time PR with the green club and it was in the last set of stationary swings at the end,

If you have old/unused shafts lying around, you can make your own speed sticks if you want for a fraction of the price. I had 3 shafts and I used washers that fit over the end of the shaft and us

@No Mulligans I think that could work. You are looking for roughly a 10% increase/decrease in weight lighter and heavier. Hard to say without knowing the exact weights. However I would guess most people could improve thier swing speed by measuring with the radar and doing sets trying to increase it.

@boogielicious I am following the superspeedgolf protocol which does not mention swinging a regular driver. My plan is to assess driver distance using GameGolf when I'm in Orlando 2 weeks from now to see how the training converts into distance on the course. I dont have access to a flightscope or trackman now but if you think it would be beneficial I could take a few swings at the end of my training session with my regular driver and no ball and post the numbers (I'd venture to guess they will be well over my on course speed meaning they will be just as indistinguishable to you as the speeds with the training clubs).

Listening to some of the youtube videos it was mentioned that you use your regular swing when you do the speed drills.  This has me wondering if this system might not be a good idea for someone that is taking instruction and trying to make changes to their swing, someone like me.

This is more or less my line of thinking. If your swing is just a little off you could potentially hurt yourself. Just be careful, @boogielicious

I think I will focus on form as well as speed.  I plan on doing it in my work gym that has a big mirror.  I think it will be almost like a plyometric exercise.

I was thinking the same thing, so I have no plans on getting this anytime soon. I will get it sometime in the future when I start making less changes to my swing and more just maintaining it. Assuming the product works, of course.

Ok, I am in as well. I received the equipment a couple of days ago and finished my second session tonight. So far, I enjoy the workout. I figure at the  very least this will keep my swinging while the snow is on the ground. The last time I was in Erie my swing speeds were 100-102 and my goal is to see if I can improve to 105 to 110. Measuring at home is something I am still trying to figure out. I have a Swing Speed Radar but the numbers seem to be a bit low. For example, night my driver around an average in the low 90's but I am still playing around with locations.

I noticed that my right shoulder was a bit sore after my first session. I am guessing that this is do to one of two factors (or a combination). I am a right handed golfer and the right shoulder seems to take on a lot of the deceleration. Of course there is not a ball there to aid in the deceleration. Also, I separated the ac joint in my right shoulder years ago so that is something I have to constantly work on.

I think I will focus on form as well as speed.  I plan on doing it in my work gym that has a big mirror.  I think it will be almost like a plyometric exercise.

I also plan on only working on my speed within the framework of the improvements I am working on.

Well, sometimes things don't always go as you'd like them to. I missed a workout... I moved that day and couldn't find the time, plus I was hoping rest would do me some good. But then I did this workout at night and the numbers are considerably lower than anything i've seen, I wonder if lighting affects the radars ability go pick up the club.

@boogielicious No injuries so far, I make sure to warm up for 2-5 minutes before I start the protocol.

For example let's say first swing is measured at 55mph, the next swing measures 57mph, (and I actually swung faster) the next swing measures 50mph (and I actually swung slower)... I could use it to improve.

What's the difference using these speed clubs(which cost a few sheckles) then say a golf shaft w/o the head on it to "speed train" ?...Or alignment rods...?....wouldn't it feel better swinging a light weight women's club(driver or 5 wood)....

The idea behind overspeed training is that you have to use clubs that are within 15% of the normal weight of the club for it to be effective. I think anything can work as long as it fits the criteria.

If the club is too heavy or too light compared to an actual golf club, your mechanics will change.

I am doing the training in my basement so the lighting is not great.However, I do have a halogen light that I use to record swings with my phone. My next training is on Friday so I'll do some experimenting with it on and off. And you are right about the feedback it is giving. The numbers do not seem to vary much so while they may not be perfect I believe I can still track progress. For example, when I focus on the work that I have done with @golfevolution w hich is getting my arms down faster my numbers go up.

    • Day 67, July 31, 2021 More three-quarter swing stuff today. I really am trying to shorten the backswing.
    • What a shot into 18 with all that pressure.  Great playing Xander.
    • One of the people who introduced me to golf in the first place would regularly do things that are generally bad etiquette:  try to make me mad during the round, talk during my swing, etc.  The good news is that now, when someone does things like making noise while I'm swinging my accident, it doesn't annoy me unless they're trying to mess me up (which no one has done, at least to my knowledge).
    • In OK, schools are not legally allowed to require masks, even for those who are too young to get vaccinated.  😞 I'm glad to hear that the vaccine can make keys stick to your head.  Maybe it will work on the five simple keys from a while back?  
    • And almost as if Florida is trying to double down on it, -->   Being a resident of SW Missouri, I guess I shouldn't throw stones.  It's almost like they're having a competition, except they've forgotten that LSW.
