Yesterday during a round with my grand daughter, and two other, new to us, young gentlemen (25-ish?) something came up after the 4th hole. The two young guys lit up a joint. When I saw (smelled) what was going on I asked them not to do this illegal deed because my younger grand daughter was with us. If they would not, we would drop out of the group, and either play ahead, or behind them.

The fact is, if my grand daughter had not been there, I could have cared less. I would not have shared in their deed, but what they were doing is not a big deal to me personally. I actually think eventually pot will be treated like alcohol as far as American laws are concerned.

Long story short one of the guys gave me "what you a cop or something" and added that smoking pot was legal where they came from, and that I should "mind my own f-ing business" . To avoid any further problems, my grand daughter, and I  left to play by ourselves.

As it turned out the four of us wound up in the parking lot, close to each other at the end of our rounds. My son in law, and his brother who are both policemen showed up to pick up our little girl. Out of the blue my grand daughter tells her dad "those guys were smoking pot and were mean to grand pa". Well, that set off another chain events, and because of a poor attitude on their part, these guys would be spending the night in the local lock up.

So here's the thing that stumps me. If you're doing something illegal, or otherwise against the rules, isn't the #1 rule to never draw negative attention to yourself? If you're smoking illegally

Well deserved. . .

The moral of the story is to never do something bad with a little kid around. You never know what they might say. Good thing too!

One of the good guys!    I don't mind pot smokers (or smoking) but what upsets me is their attitude after being told to put it away in front of a minor.

( Once, a pair of guys lit up a joint on hole #10 in one of our rounds.   But they had sense enough to do it away from us. )

I'm completely sick of some of this "entitled" behavior.  Good for you and your granddaughter and your son-in-law and his brother!  It's frustrating how some people don't want others to infringe on their assumed rights, but have no problem infringing on others actual rights.  And, when it comes down to it, it's just inconsiderate.  I'll smoke a legal cigar sometimes when I play, but before I light up, I always ask my fellow competitors if they mind.

Yeah seems odd. Even here where it's legal I've only encountered someone smoking on the course once. Two years ago both were late 60's and retired. Wouldn't have given it a second thought if our tee time hadn't been 6:55 AM and they started on the second hole.

Rude people. I don't do it much, and I certainly would never think of doing it around strangers.

But I also don't think anybody deserves to spend any time in the pokey for smoking a little pot.

Well stated.

I too am sick and tired of the entitled behavior of some people.

Possession of less than 1 oz is just a fine in most states. Here the ticket would be for public consumption.

I believe the time in lock up was more because of their attitude than the weed if I understood it correctly.

Unless it included breaking a law bad attitude isn't a crime. If the story is true as told I find it just as tacky that two off-duty LEO's found it appropriate to confront f-bomb dropping pot smokers. If it escalated it's because they chose to get involved. Doesn't sound like the joint smokers did anything in the lot to provoke that prior to the kids comment.

Pot never did much for me one way or the other, but I believe it helped my buddy. He was a vet and had a lot of issues. The pot calmed him down and dulled his pain. I was glad we got to play the rounds we did.

It's not just pot, all smoking should be put away with kids around, end of story.

And I say that as a smoker.

But that being said, dicks or not, it's harsh to lock anyone up for smoking pot, actually it's more than harsh, I can't support that move.

What about having a beer while bowling? or watching a ballgame? or at the beach, is that bad too?

    • Still no wedges! Jeez i am past 10 weeks on those now
    • Lol. Yeah well I’ve succumbed to just living with them. I’d rather quit than use all hybrids. Just can’t do it. If I have to hit a long putt…like 50+ feet….yeah, yeah I’m Sure I could shank a putt.    Imagine if someone completely covered your club head with lead tape into a ball. Then took all the markings off the grip. Then at the top of your back swing the lead tape comes off and you’re expected to hit the ball squarely. That’s how much feel I have for the club head. Be it a short chip or a full swing. Zero natural talent.
    • Long second shot from the rough over water to a front pin ... with trees in the way I think?  Onto the green was unlikely, maybe I could see trying to hit it over the green or maybe into the bunker for that chance to hole out instead of a full swing.
    • How do you get the distance right?  I can get on GG the distance I hit the first putt, but not necessarily how far out I am.
    • It wasn’t a particularly good lie, either. I believe that’s what they said on the broadcast. I think he made the right play. What he needed to do was not put himself in a situation where he needed to eagle the final hole to tie.
