I've been Playing Golf for: 12 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 84

My typical ball flight is: straight with a little fade at times

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: shanking the ball

Videos:

Ok, so I wasn't able to capture the god aweful shanks that I usually do, but here is my swing. The first club is a pitching wedge, I then went to switch out to a 5 iron. I found that when I slowed down the clip, my backswing is on a very specific plane, and right when I reach the pinnacle of my back swing going into the downswing, my arms rotate outwards going back down. I'm thinking that at times, I'm pushing my arms too outward causing me to unintentionally hit the ball with the hozzle of the club... this is just my theory though, let me know what you can diagnose, thanks!

When you make the next video include a shank that way we can see what may be causing it.

It's dark but it appears that you could adjust your setup a bit:

Thanks for the replys guys! I took your advice on posture and worked on it a little bit today, and achieved some better results. I should say though at my height it's very hard to get that upright position, however I'm going to be working on that extensively over my next few sessions. This is a clip of me hitting a new 4 hybrid I bought recently.

I use alignment sticks or a club to set up the camera in the down the line view.  Take your stance, then line a club or stick to your feet.  Then place the camera behind you with the stick or club centered and parallel to the camera view.  This will make it much easier for viewers to see your positions, A1 through A9.

@Loyalp4wn , please heed this advice. See the link quoted here.

Was hoping i could get some advice here, i dont want to get into camera placement, this was the best i could do.. I feel like theres enough in this video to be assesed. Ok so the only way im able to make great contact with the ball is to line my club underneath the ball and swing at the area underneath the ball and not directly at the ball. If i tell myself make sure the club head strikes the ball, the ball ends up hitting the hosle of the club causing a shank. Im just at such a loss as what i need to do to solve this problem, because if you watch this video, this is the only way im able to hit the ball right now.. Granted it produces a solid strike in the direction i want it to go everytime.. However its just disturbing that at my level i have to line the club up like this to hit the ball.. Please any advice whatsoever to fix this would be great thanks

I like what @iacas said, keep an eye on that.

I also think how the sweetspot is traveling is causing you some issues. Needs to be less "chaotic". The club head loads too low and in, to compensate you get it across the line at the top and then steep during the first part of the downswing. This can make it very hard to hit the ball solid, not a lot of time to "recover".

I would first address what is going on with the takeaway.

Camera placement is important because distortion can mess with the video images show things that may or may not be happening in your swing. No offense, but you're asking for free advice and professional instructors are willing to take time out of their day to give it to you, the least you can do is adjust the camera a bit so they can get a better look at your swing. Welcome to TST by the way. Feel free to explore other areas of the site and discuss things that aren't directly related to your swing ;-)

I think people need to leave out "no offense" when theyre obviously trying to offend someone. Its a double negative, and almost as bad as someone saying, "irregardless"... Look, I get what you're saying... Im very thrilled at the responses i've received in regards to helping my swing. In fact, I've taken most of the advice given on this thread to the range every day this last week... Granted its not producing immediate results, it will take time like most things, of course. I joined this forum in hopes of getting advice on correcting my swing, not replying to comments like this about something that I already know. This was the best I could set up today, and I really cant find much wrong with it aside from that it doesnt meet the EXACT guidelines for camera placement, and ive seen a lot worse on here. Look, mvmac was able to assess it (thanks for that), Im going to work on the takeaway amongst other things.

Our interest and motivation in helping you is tied to a few things. Good camera angles help.

Take that however you'd like.

I find the easiest way to set up the camera is to take my stance then lay the club at my feet at my toes.  Then I set up the camera to look straight down the club so it is centered in the view finder.  A lot of us struggled with camera position when we first started filming.  Actually, I would say almost all of us did. :-)

Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
