Of course. I could go on strike right now. I think my boss would just hand me my last check and tell me to enjoy my strike.

They do.

Their employers also have the option of just grabbing a different independent contractor of the many available in the gallery who is willing to do the same job without filing frivolous lawsuits, and probably for less pay to boot.

Right and thanks (to both of you) ... I understand they have the option to not show up to work.  I meant the usual labor code protected strikes (can't be fired for it, both sides must bargain in good faith, etc).

Enough caddies have walked off mid-round, and been replaced by someone in the field, that I don't think their walk-out would do anything other than get them dismissed, even if it were timed to get the most attention.

That's exactly what would happen. Every caddy who left would never get another loop again, and the people in the crowd would get the bonus experience of potentially caddying for one of the best players in the world.

The caddies think they hold more sway than they do. The players know enough to play just as well with an average joe on the bag as they play with their professional caddy on the bag, but their usual caddy is just a comfort thing for many I imagine.

OK sorry about the snarky reply.

They would have to get certified and recognized first.  That is a long road and would require the Tour to take action to recognize the union.  They already have an association ( http://theaptc.com/ )  and it is a beginning step to becoming a union. Then, if a strike happened they would have protection from the labor law. I am sure there are some union guys on this site that can explain it better than me. I don't work with or for unions.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
