I got an email back from the course, and the minimum amount of players they can reserve a group for is 12, so that is the number we need to get to. If you can go, please post soon.

@bplewis24 are you for sure out, or are you still up in the air?

@SoundandFury ... Can you make it to Industry Hills on 5/24?  It's gonna be a great time!

P.S.  You should joint the Socal group here on TST too.

Didn't even know there was a separate group for So Cal, thanks for the heads up!  I'm tentatively going to be out of town that weekend, BUT i'm hoping it gets cancelled.  If so, I'm in for sure.

I'm tentatively in with my son. I might have to work the weekend, but still possible to take the time to play.

Good to hear that you are in... however, with regards to guests; I don't think that we should bring any unless we absolutely need them to round out a foursome, as those spots should be for members first, at least at this point. Don't get me wrong if we get to a couple days out and a member who said he couldn't make it all of a sudden can, I'm not going to kick out a guest, but I think we should accommodate our members first.  Counting Lihu (but not his son at this point) we are at 10 with at least 4 maybes. The list is at follows:

1. @mvmac

2. @tristanhilton85

3. @Golfingdad

4. @Big C

5. @Bechambo

6. @Ringworld

7. @k-troop

8. @Shindig

9. @bmartin461

10. @Lihu

On the fence: @bplewis24 , @SoundandFury , @Pakoh , @GolfSwine

If that's what you feel you have to do, then ok. Please don't think that I was just singling out your kid though, I would have said the same thing to any one of us wanting to bring a guest. After all, this is The Sand Trap SoCal outing... we should give preference to our members.

@ iacas Thanks for setting my account straight.

Ringworld here and ready to play... although I am hoping I don't play like I did at Lakewood yesterday.  LOL  Thanks for having me :D

Hi all,  New member here. Glad to find out about your group (THANKS SHINDIG!)  I regularly play with my son and nephew, nearly every weekend.  I am going to suggest they join and maybe all 3 of us will join in the fun and frivolity at IH.  Has there been a time set yet?  How much will it cost?  It sounds like a fun time from what Shindig says :)

It'd be awesome to have you join us.

Just so you know, at this point we are trying to give members of the site first go at a spot... in other words we are trying to limit the number of guests. Part of the reason we do these is to get to know the other members of the site and if you bring two other guys you play with all the time that kind of defeats the point. Plus, it would make it a bit awkward for the other guy in your group and he may feel a bit left out.

Thanks Tristan,

The other two guys will probably join TST as well and we're not against grouping with others.  We would be trying to fit in, not trying to bend the rules.

If they're likely to be members and you guys are ok potentially being split up/playing with others, that works.

Agree @tristanhilton85 , thanks for pointing out we want to give priority to the members of the site.

Thanks Tristan,

The other two guys will probably join TST as well and we're not against grouping with others.  We would be trying to fit in, not trying to bend the rules.

And often times, we like to arrive a little early and eat breakfast together, or stay a little afterwards and have a drink or snack.  A lot of us have become pretty decent friends solely through this website and these outings.  They're great!

I know, first hand, how hard it is for some of us to get out of the house for such a large chunk of time on the weekends, but occasionally when time permits, its great.

Look forward to meeting you guys!

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
