Hello, I'm new to this forum and am excited to find it. I'm just getting back into the game and look forward to MANY visits here!

I've been Playing Golf for:

Quit the game at 17 with a 2 handicap (joined the Pro Bowlers Tour for several reasons instead of golf but that is irrelevant here).

I'm now 61 and a buddy got me started again about two years ago. So I took some 40+ years off (maybe 20 rounds in that time) and I'm back and excited about the game.

My current handicap index or average score is: 8.5

My typical ball flight is:

High with a mix of draw and fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is:

fat iron shots.

I've really been working on eliminating the 'flip' by attempting to achieve some shaft lean at impact (hands in front of the ball at impact) but just can't seem to get a handle on it. I feel I'm getting close, at least with the irons but the driver I just can't find the ... feel for it.

One big concern, which is probably related, is just prior to impact and at impact, the shaft has flexed forward. That is, the club head is now AHEAD of the shaft. You'll see this on both the iron on driver videos when paused at the pre impact point. This CAN"T be good as the flex is beyond its most powerful point at impact.

I appreciate any insights!!

PS: I fractured my left arm as a kid and I'm unable to fully straighten it. It comes close but just not straight incase you notice the lack of a straight left arm on the back swing.

Thanks!

Bill

Welcome to the forum @billgeo Thanks for posting your swing.  The "head ahead of shaft" in the video may just be an artifact of the video and not real.  The way digital videos are taken, the screen is recorded top down I believe.  So the bottom of the picture is actually slightly ahead of the top in terms of time.

Your swing is not too far off in my opinion.  You obviously played to at high level in the past.  I would recommend reviewing the videos in the thread below.  Fat shots are usually due to not consistently getting the weight forward.

Thanks for joining The Sand Trap.

Thanks Boogie for the quick reply, info and welcome (and Matt too)!

Interesting about the video. Hmmmm. I'm NOT a video guy so I'll have to believe you on this and really hope it's true.  :)

Question: would recording in slow motion help? Super slow?

I'll try that next time I can get out.

Thanks again!

It can.  240 fps is typical for slow motion video.  I even use 120 fps.  It helps because you can stop the video at different points in the swing and check your position.  There is also software like Analyzr, http://analyzrgolf.com/, that can take your full speed video and allow you to look at your swing.  Many of use use analyzr.

Awesome Boogie.

I only have my phone's video, a Samsung Note 4.   I just researched it and found:

Other modes the Note 4 supports include smooth motion (1080p at 60 FPS), fast motion (basically a time lapse), and slow motion (720p at 120 FPS).

So COOL!  I'll reshoot in slow mo and see if that shaft flex is figment of the camera's imagination or real.  ;-D

Thanks again

Bill
