  1. 1. Will Tiger play in the 2015 Masters?

I voted yes, but if you put the over/under of how many rounds he'll play at 2.5, I'd take the under. I second this. I don't think Tiger's given the Valero the first thought.

Ordinarily he wouldn't. I just don't think he'll risk jumping into The Masters without testing his game first. I'd sure love to see him give it a go though, but not for the same reason as a lot of y'all.....! ;-)

Good God, YES! :-P But either way, I enjoy watching him. That's where we tend to differ. I don't like him, but appreciate his talent and what he's done for the game. I just don't believe that he is the game, on any level. It might surprise you to know, that in the Jack or Tiger GOAT thread.....I voted Tiger. Of course that was a long time ago, I suppose it could change. ;-)

Really?  i dont want to watch anyone struggle like that, its humiliating...its like a tragedy that you cant look away from, and then you feel badly that you watched it.

I don't think he'd like to go into the Masters without playing somewhere first, but I also don't think the proposition of playing in a tournament he doesn't usually play in and possibly coming back before he thinks he's ready outweighs that.

Wy wouldn't he ... everybody knows he's struggling ... the worst that can happen is he misses the cut.     I do not see him playing before that though ... if he tanks & misses another cut before the masters, that would be detrimental mentally, which I think is far more of a problem than his back.

Which is exactly why I don't believe he'll play in Augusta. He's too arrogant to risk the humiliation that would result from yet another poor performance on such a big stage.

You do realize he's played something like 8 rounds with those pitching/chipping issues and his full swing issues, all in the public eye, right?

He may or may not play, but I think it's going to be more about whether he's healthy than his "arrogance." Great players tend to think they can summon something.

Yep. That's why I said 'yet another"..... As to his health, I would hope that he's worked the kink out of his butt cheek by now. :-)

I'd like to pick "I really hope he plays, for my poor fanboy heart", but that's not up there, so I said yes.

Aside from my own selfish desires, I think that he will. I watched that dude win the US Open on a broken leg; I totally believe he could get it done at the Masters, and I think he does too.

I have no idea whether he'll play or not but I'd be willing to bet almost anything that he won't play in Texas beforehand. First off, he's hardly ever played the week before a major and (with only a couple of exceptions) he's not one to go 'slumming' in less than elite tournaments regardless of the circumstances.

I'll be down in Augusta so I hope he decides to tee it up. It's possibly the only tournament and venue that doesn't need Tiger, but it still didn't feel the same down there last year.

a few years ago, yes, there was a Schadenfreude element to my relationship with Phil.  but i see him more of a worthy rival to Tigs.  even tho i think hes totally disingenuous, i dont think hes a bad guy.  i feel badly for the health issues he and his wife have endured, and i wish him well.  not too well, as in beating Tigs, but you get what im saying.

I voted yes, I can't see him passing up an opportunity to win a major, if he's still committed to beating Jack's record, given the point he's at in his career.  Time isn't on his side so he needs to at least make the attempt.

I hope he does play as my wife and I won Tuesday practice round tickets and we're taking our fathers.

Personally, I think that Tiger was taking HGH for many years and now that they are testing for it his body is braking down just like Mark McGwire's did after years of use. From what I have read getting off of it completely messes you up mentally and you lose focus. I believe that years down the road this will become public. This is just my opinion...

This is how I think of Phil, too.  He also have touch of arrogance IMO.

Back to the OP, I think he will play being a competitor he is.    I hope he does not play unless he is in top 20 player form.   A poor showing will dent his confidence more.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
