I don't doubt the truth of this but as someone who suffered from the yips in competition (many years ago), I can tell you there is a huge difference between casual and competitive rounds.

A 66 worst ball is insanely good golf no matter what the circumstances.

It's not. It was reported by Tim Rosaforte a couple days ago.

I remember hearing Greg Norman say his best worst ball round was even par. I don't think anyone could manage -6, not even Tiger. Unless he played the white tees.

I hope this is a sign of things to come. It means he has put in a lot of effort to his golf game. Good for him.

My favorite part of this, if true, is that he "validated" putts by playing them twice.

Golf is insanely hard by itself, but worst ball and putting 'validation'?  That's absurd.

Dumb question because I have no idea--is Medalist considered a difficult course?

One shot at a time.

Validating the putts IS part of the requirements of playing worst ball.  You have to hit every shot twice and take the worse of the two.  But, yeah ... super impressive.

Still in shock thinking about how good a worst ball 66 is. Boy would I be thrilled if Tiger is in the hunt at 1 or 2 majors this year.

Hahaha shows how many times I've played worst ball!

One shot at a time.

I think he still has to get out of his own way. It make me wonder if all this is in his head now, the pressure finally hitting Tiger. It is one thing to play on a course he's played a lot with out his reputation on the line compared to playing at Augusta.

@saevel25 Totally agree that a practice round and a tournament round are 2 totally different things. I'm definitely going to add this worst ball format to my practice this year. It will be great for days when the group ahead is slow or I'm out by myself.

Ditto.

I would hate the putting. I almost would want to just play the first one as a practice putt. Just cosy it up for a tap-in, then get serious with the 2nd putt.

Million dollar question. if he his tearing up his home course and has played practice rounds at Augusta, what the hell is waiting for. Announce your plaYing already. The fact he hasn't makes me a bit nervous, though I think the odds he is playing are quite high.

I don't know but it could just be theatrics at this point. Tiger likes to create as much drama, mystique, and excitement around this stuff as possible. Kind of like a reminder to the golf world how much it misses/needs him. Remember the circus that ensued when he showed up on Wed to Valhalla last year.

I'm impressed, but I'm not surprised. We all know what he can do when he's in the zone, It was evident when he shot that 62 at Bridgestone two years ago. As for the Masters, I would be surprised if he's already told the folks over there that he's playing in the tournament. He may just not care about telling the public about his intentions of playing.

Also good for those times you have too many balls and need to thin the selection out a little bit… :D

Verily, it takes a lot of balls to play this format

I'll believe the improvement when I see it. Won't be long now if he truly plays. The practice rounds will give a hint of what to expect. Can't wait to see the event, my favorite tournament of the year.

Interesting. I've been watching Tiger's odds (outright win) at Paddy Power for the 2015 Masters. His odds just shortened a smidgeon, from 50/1 to 45/1. 45/1 is a tempting price for someone who is admittedly a long-shot, but is still a winner of this tournament on four previous occasions and, according to the story in this thread, may now be back in devastating form.

So on that basis, well, time to be brave. Two quid on Tiger to win please...
