I'm just in awe at a guy who can just decide to get Lee Trevino on the blower and ask him to teach him chipping. That's good living.

In just glad it was a Best Buy parking lot and not Walmart.

I agree with you, but I hope you read the actual article, and not just my excerpt. This is why I question the consultation: I find this line of thinking a little odd. He's Tiger's coach, so he's expected to be the premier source of information on everything? Pros consult each other all the time, as do instructors. Most people who seek knowledge have the understanding that they don't know everything and are open to learning from others .

Yeah, I did read it. But just because to the untrained eye Trevino is the "wrong" style of chipper doesn't make the call necessarily a bad thing. We learned when como was hired that he's a 5sk guy, but in that context we learned that he's studied a billion other things as well. So he sounds like the kind of guy who'd just try to keep acquiring as much information as possible. My kind of guy. :)

Taking a quick look at Tiger chipping at Augusta at the practice area, from the camera angles (that can be misleading), has Tiger always chipped with the ball that far back in his stance and the ball coming out so low?

I think the golf.com article concluded that Trevino's technique worked at an Open but not Augusta, that Tiger during his earlier career engaged the bounce, while Trevino engaged the leading edge, and that engaging the leading edge did not work for Tiger early this year... interesting.

John Cook was flabbergasted, disgusted, dismayed that anyone would think Tiger had the short game yips.  Is he good buddies with Tiger? Because Tiger was demonstrating classic signs of the chipping yips.   And Cook says that the yips don't come and go -----can't believe he knows or has ever experienced the yips because they definitely do come and go.  And I wouldn't be surprised if you see them creep up again on TW, most likely at the time everyone thinks he's got them cured.

He really wasn't showing signs of the yips, to some people probably. But it was fairly easy to tell his technique was just a bit messed up. He did not have the yips. I even posted pictures of why in another thread. A lot of us had been saying this was a fairly easy fix for him.

I am with those who think the issue was purely technical. Trevino has a big mouth (eye roll) and I can see him telling this story on his deathbed to the nurse of how he single handedly resurrected Tiger's sagging career but good on Como for using all credible venues. A slight leading handle can't necessarily mean that front edge has no option but to dig.

Not necessarily, but it requires much greater precision.

I dont think it was the yips at all. they explained many times, how he was caught in between his old and new swing . This caused him to have a bad angle. Hard work and reps is what he needed. Mission accomplished.

You mean a much more fanned open club face. Will give you all the bounce you want.

Bill Harmon, Hank Haney and several other experts disagree w/ you.

Yes, there are a lot of people out there who don't know what they are talking about... :-)

And many of Tiger's chipping critics are notorious for commenting and often knocking most things he does. If Haney says anything about Tiger I just assume it's BS. Same with Blandel.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
