It's an okay leaderboard as far as star power goes. The top 3 are nice and then you have a lot of "ehh" names. Thank God for Spieth. Without him My interest level would not be very high going into this weekend. Hoping Jordan can keep the Grand Slam alive.

Ugh. Finally home to catch up. Lots of hate for CB.

I am in the hate boat for CB; at least for a US Open. Too gimmicky, greens are not up to standard. But most importantly like Horschel said, its bad for the fans. It shows poorly on tv, fans can't traverse the land, its not tournament walkable for anyone; just too much negative. I really don't see the US Open coming back to CB. Its just not deserving. Like someone else said, leave this style of course to oversees.

I don't like Reed, but good lord hopefully he, Spieth or DJ win this. After those three, this leaderboard is BORING until you go far down, save Day or Stenson.

I'm sure it's bad for spectators at the event, but I disagree with it showing poorly on tv. I like the look of the course and unlike some people, I think Fox is getting some cool shots. Or maybe people are just upset with Fox because of the commentating? I have no opinion there, I'm usually at the pub...and if I'm home I don't pay much attention to the commentary.

Oh I really think apart from Weiskopf and Holly Sonders looking like an alien, Fox has done a great job for their first time together. I think the course itself just looks like shit more so than Fox not doing a good job with their cameras. I came into this with an opened mind and was excited, but CB has really let me down. I don't like it at all. And I don't care what anyone says, this is not US Open quality.

I went to wednesday's practice round. It's very limited as far as places to view the action. Mostly grandstands and only a couple fairways you can stand along. I think the course is fun on TV. The greens look ugly, but the course looks fine.

Amateur Nick Hardy will need to make a bogey on his last hole if the guys at +5 want to play the weekend which includes: Webb Simpson, Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Angel Cabrera, Camilo Villegas, and Ian Poulter.

Some good stuff today and the course won a few battles too, probably the majority of the battles.

Somebody that goes out early tomorrow is going to shoot a 66-67 something like that and they will be right in the middle of it on Sunday.    It could really be a bunched leader board come Sunday evening.  Somebody like Rory or Phil or some virtual nobody is going to make a run tomorrow and then sit back and watch the carnage in the late groups.  If the USGA does what I think they will, then the lead may only be -2 or -3 going into Sunday.

Speith played a really good round and Johnson and Reed both played well at times, but the afternoon group was scorched today.

The greens don't look great but they roll pretty well early.  As the grass grows and they dry up, then they get rough.  Mickelson had two or three putts that bobbled and hopped and got offline.  I'm sure many of the other guys had the same problem in the afternoon.  With only about 60 players tomorrow they might hold up a little better, but they still will not be easy because of all the slopes.

Buckle your seat belts boys.  Tomorrow could be wild.

Well, it's been ages since I posted here, former writer at TST. I spent the Tuesday practice round and Thursday at Chambers Bay. It is expansive. Beautiful views of the sound and a golf course that looks very beautiful to me. I was born just a few miles from the course so I'm very pleased to have a U.S. Open close.

Tuesday impressions ... The atmosphere was very laid back. I got a feel for where everything was. Spent some time on the 6th fairway and watched Butch walk by with Fowler, Snedeker, and Mickelson (all students). Gulbis was with that group and walked right by. She wasn't hard to look at.

Els' legs are so long he looks like a spider. The most interesting golfer in the world had a cigar plugging his yapper. He's my hero. Cool to see Adam and Steve together for the moment. Lots of noise from the 9th green all day long.

Ogilvy splashed one out of the sand just shy of the putting surface on 7 and it rolled back to his feet. "Well," he said, "looks like I'll get plenty of practice here."

Saw Mcilroy tee off with a long iron on 2 at about 4 ish. First one right, second middle.

Thursday impressions ... I enjoyed the site again. I met a friend at parking and rode over in the bus. I had a nice blackened shrimp sandwich and a couple of IPA's. Nom nom.

The 7th fairway proved to be a very good viewing area as we had a look at tee shots and seconds into the green. I could easily make out putts on 6 with my little binoculars. Bubba hit it longer than anyone I saw, though D. Johnson's tee shot today looked a little further up and center cut. Tiger's tee shot was long en route to a par. 10 over total. Oops.

The amateur Campbell was on fire. I saw him on 15 and 17. I stood right next to the green at 15 and had a great view of a couple of the groups hit into that green. There was a huge backstop to funnel balls around.

I lined up behind 10 and some some DTL tee shots by Furyk, Jimenez, Montgomerie, Koepka, Henley, and An. It's a wide fairway, though one of them drove it in the left bunker. Can't remember who.

Dufner's waggle looks good from 20 feet away. The lady next to me told me that my man crush for him was okay. Bonus... he's available. Marc Warren hits it hard. If anything struck me about the difference in the pro's game it is the  sound at impact and their fluidity. Effortless power abounds. And they nuke it. I would have a tough time breaking 140 there.

It is an absolute hike but I loved it. I made it to every corner of the course and the crowds were manageable, except when a crowd 5-20 deep showed up on 7 when Tiger came through. My buddy and I had set up there about 45 minutes before so we had front row seats.

I had been planning on going since Chambers Bay was announced and it was a real treat. Everything went great, except for not enough sun tan lotion. Played golf Wednesday in between. I'll be finishing the tournament on Fox Sports. Anyhoo, there you go.
