My Swing (onthehunt526)

Recommended Posts

Here's an update of my progress, I have to trim the video of me doing the drill, which I will do in a bit... Let me know what you the @iacas and/or @mvmac.

I will continue to do the drills and post a weekly update... yesterday I used the broom and a 9 pan to practice the drill, the servers looked at me funny.

Can you film yourself doing the shoulder pitch/driveway sticks drill? Because here's what I see, right off the bat:

I like the setup, but then you stand up a ton, which means you have to dive back down, which directly leads to losing your balance late.

I sure can, @iacas do you think stand say 3 inches further from the ball will give me the feeling I don't  need to "dive" for the ball?

You should probably stand farther from the ball, yes. Look at the angle your arms hang in the left photo. They should be about 5-10° the other direction. If | is vertical, you're currently / and should be more like \. Just 5-10°.

New swing 2020.

Made some adjustments. Feedback always appreciated and welcomed.

If @iacas or @mvmac have the time. I’ve made a few changes. (Working with Ledge helped a lot.) I can’t tell much of a difference from 4 years ago, but maybe you guys can. The main difference I noticed was that I don’t step through anymore. I’m not sure if I’m standing taller or not, I really can’t tell. Let me know if you see any main differences.

Agree with @iacas. I'd also take some flex out of the knees and get the tailbone less behind you.

So set-up taller?

Yes it will probably feel taller. Stand up while gripping the grip, add a touch of knee flex, bend from the waist a little, then relax the upper back and neck as you lower the arms.

Well being 6’7” I’m leaving a ton of power on the table, and I hit it 280 (carry) consistently. The “dive” is probably a result of being so tall and for many years playing with clubs that didn’t fit me properly. When I was a teenager, my family wasn’t made of money, so I played with shitty box sets from K-mart or Walmart until I bought my first set of clubs myself at 17.

The “dive” isn’t a result of being tall my man. It’s a result of needing to “find” the ball again after your left shoulder turns really flat on the backswing.

BTW how do you calculate your index?

    • Day 3: COVID-19 day 6 and 7 drills again. Then downswing priority piece work with 7-iron, not much, just 10 balls.
    • Day 69, August 2, 2021 More work on shortening my backswing. I don’t want to even get to hands to right shoulder… at least feeling like that.
    • I'm sure if you look at about two years ago on this site, I mentioned somewhere that after having my first ever sub-80 round (a nice 77 in a tournament!), I failed to break 90 for I think two months.  These things happen. Can't hit an iron?  What's the longest swing you can make with your PW and hit a good result?  If the answer is a chip, go hit some chips and, after some good ones, expand into pitches.  Similar with pitches into 3/4 shots, etc.   This is very likely something you can work out by going back to what you do well.
    • First range session after another productive session with @iacas.  Working on getting my weight forward and also feel like my front forearm is turning to close the clubface.  Did work with my 6I, Driver, 3W, and 4H and hit all clubs really well with ball flights that overall I wasn't unhappy with.  Playing tomorrow and Wednesday so we'll see how we do.
