  1. 1. Would you watch more golf on TV if the networks showed more golf shots and less of the talking heads?

    • Yes I'd watch more
      10
    • I'd watch less
      0
    • I'd watch the same amount
      20

I'll definitely be watching less if cover is as bad as the Fox Sports US Open was.  Now the R & A have sold the broadcast rights to Sky Sports in the UK from 2017 I just hope they don't sink to the same abysmal level as Fox Sports.

I've said it before, if Erik and Mike were commentating then absolutely I would listen. I was listening to a HS golf coach on the practice range....such a shame, older guy and definitely out of date. Student says "I think I'm trying to manipulate my clubface to compensate for what feels like an out to in swing." Coach says " Don't worry too much about your clubface....it's the path that really determines the flight of your ball." And another beauty.." Don't get all messed up with this weight forward stuff...it's more about being balanced on impact but with your HANDS forward"

I'd watch the same amount, but I'd enjoy it more.

Just think about other sports like football, hockey, basketball. If they cut away to  a couple of talking heads while the games were going on, they would destroy their audience. In golf broadcasting, there are so many cameras around the course, there is something interesting to show all the time.

Let them do their commentary, as much of it is very interesting, but  why telecast their two or three of THEM when there is action on the course!

An example, Harry Caray, calling the Cardinals and later the cubs games, would comment, tell stories or jokes, but the camera's stayed on the game. Same go's for hockey, football etc.

That's what the fan's watching for and not a discussion telecast.

I wouldn't. :-) My broadcast experience is confined to doing a podcast and being on college radio 15 years ago. Being a commentator is a vastly different skillset than being an instructor.

I appreciate the vote of confidence @Vinsk , but on this one, it's likely very, very misplaced. I have zero training or interest at commentating.

Lol. Understood...I was really more imagining your input on the slow swing analyzing segments...and course management comments. It's like any other sport....frustrating to hear talking heads who are simply wrong in what they're saying. I've heard it over and over with World Cup and other sports but golf takes the cake.

I used to get fired up about it but I'm kind of over it now. It has gotten slightly better.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I'll decline as well, I don't even like talking on the phone :-P
