Agreed completely.

Nothing since has ever come close. There are tons of people out there that will never play anything else. If the start to look a little rough, they just send em back to the WRX department and have them tumbled and new paintfill. Personally, I think all Ping irons look like 60's muscle cars covered in Bondo, but man do they have a following, and that one more than any other.

I have to agree with the Ping Eye 2. I can't think of another Ping product that has made such an impact other than the Anser putter.

So if they are considered the best iron EVER MADE, why do people even bother to waste 1k on clubs made this and the last few years?

I mean on ebay you can get the eye's for a good price, like 400 bucks or so.

The original Eye 2s were made from 82 to 90, and they are still selling close to their original price 17 to 25 years later. Is there any other club that can compare? This model ushered in a new era in golf and really gave birth to the game improvement iron.

I still have a set of Eye2s from 1985. 1-PW. They are good irons and the 1 and 2 iron are very easy to hit. Personally, I like my Z101s better.

I really enjoy the I5's i'm playing right now, have allowed me to really improve my ball striking this year but I also remember playing a set of eye2's my uncle had a number of years ago when I was still a junior golfer and remember them feeling incredible.

As others have said they started a revolution in irons and have to be at least the most memorable iron Ping has ever made.

The copper one's?? Or the regular ones?? Honestly, all I did was take a porter cable to my regular irons, used a very mild compound, SSR 2.5, then followed up with SSR 1.5 (compounds) I finished it off with a coat of sealer, Menzerna FMJ Paint Sealant I did not use any wax, but after I did this, my used clubs looked BRAND NEW!!!! BRAND NEW!!!!

I sure am glad I got my hand-me-down set of Eye2's now that I'm hearing all this. I've only hit them once at the range since I got them Monday. Can't wait to see what they do on the course!
I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

The original poster asked what was the best

Ping Iron ever made, not the best iron period. I can think of several iron sets that are better than the Ping Eye 2, just not too many Ping sets that are better...

I have a set of G5's and wished I'd gotten the i5's but I've hit i3's and they were about as sweet as I've hit. Much better then the new ones. Brother had Eye2's years ago and after he got rid of them he's never played as well. They probably were the best of all time.

    • Day 8: Indoor backswing work, mostly rehearsals of takeaway. Hit some balls wtih 6-iron working on adding flow, but not too Much which I tend to do, swaying too far away from target.
    • Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.
    • Day 126 (18 Apr 24) - Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…
    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
    • Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.
