Not a fan of the crowds cheering bad shots.  Show some class people.

Fun time yesterday.  I saw everyone and some old timers.

Split screen commercials work fine for me.Is it messing up your favorite commercials?

I see the split-screen most often in auto racing, where the objects the camera is following are large and colorful, and the action doesn't stop. Golf is the opposite: the camera is following a tiny white ball, and there is a lot of downtime between shots. I don't see the advantage of continuing coverage in a reduced window compared to the usual "this was while you were away" treatment.

In my UnderArmour Links stand bag...

There's clearly some unwanted comments out there too based on some of the reactions by European players.

There are 28 matches, 352 holes (lets say all matches end on hole 16) and more then 1600 shots to play. It does not come down to a couple of putts.

Yeah, it can.

I didn't say the other shots didn't matter. I said it can come down to one team winning the 18th hole five times while the other team wins it only twice. That could be a three-point swing (which is actually a six-point swing) right there.

All shots count and these putts could also go in favour of the Euro's making it a bigger win then it was. In every match there are turning points, some in favour of the Euro's, some in favour of the USA. Don't point to the couple that went in favour of the Euro's, without pointing to the ones that went in favour of the USA.

It even sounds like 'drive for show and putt for dough'.

Again, in the small sample sizes, one shot here and there, you could easily rack up a deficit of 5-2 like I mentioned above.

It does not sound like "Drive for Show, Putt for Dough." If you think that, you're not understanding what I'm saying.

Over small sample sizes, which this is, it's easy to get coins to land heads up more often than 50/50.

Slightly :offtopic: but a couple of years ago when ITV had the Formula one coverage, the producers decided to go to an add break near the end of the race. When they came back the lead had changed and the commentators were talking about the "amazing overtaking move" etc. and all the fans missed it. But yeah, Golf isnt quite the same pace.... I mean, could you imagine Murray Walker comentaing on the golf?

Russ, from "sunny" Yorkshire = :-(

Probably similar to the time he called snooker.

Anyway...

Europe may not even manage a full point this morning. Didn't see that coming.

I was a little surprised at that as well after hearing the pairings yesterday.

Does anyone else thing that taking nearly 4 hours to play 16 holes, with just two balls in play, is pretty dang slow?

Hoping for a 4-0 start.....wow

another from my first Ryder Cup

So best moment yesterday while there was after the last group finished and people were heading to the opening ceremonies...I'm walking next to a dad and son (about 9), the kid is sad he didn't get a couple specific autographs on his hat (I had one autograph only, thanks Tommy). So I go over and throw out "Hey, wanna compare hats?" We compare his (COVERED in autographs) and mine (one lone one). "That's pretty great, kid, what a day for you"..... He then reaches into his pocket and tries to give me a Hazeltine pin that a pro gave him "It's ok, I have two" he says. I think him and decline, the kid then gives it to his dad. That was better to see than any drive or shot or the entire day. What a great kid. (And those pros too, to be signing so many hats for all these young kids - it's pretty great. On 18, Phil and Rickie must have stood there signing stuff for at least 45 minutes. Tom Lehman signing for nearly as long.)

A little late, but

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
