Just a sad day for golf.  Would have been great if Jordan had won.  If I was a player, I would let him win because if he had won the grand slam this year, I bet next year purses would have been through the roof.

Drive for show,Putt for dough.

We know that's not true. Look at how many three-putts Spieth had this week and he still almost won it.

I don't think purses would have changed much next year…

Except for that he had 37 putts the 2nd day. He might have been better served coming over and getting more use to the greens. He was really pissed off with his putting this week.

And if he spends last week playing St. Andrews he has tournament rust like he had at John Deere. If he plays the Scottish, he doesn't practice at St.Andrews. There's a bunch of what if games...he did the right thing in his mind and that's all that matters.

I doubt the purse would balloon that much. Also, if it was found that a lot of players conspired to help Spieth win then I'd probably guess all those involved, and maybe including Spieth would be disqualified.

Good stuff today. Sad I missed most of it. Good for ZJ, definitely in a new category. I think Jordan should be very proud of his result. Of course you want the W, but my lord this is one absolutely remarkable year for him at the majors. I'm sure he will be right there in Kohler, WI. Really disappointed with DJ. Not sure I'm gonna be picking him in any of my pools/draft kings/etc anymore. Really don't think he has what it takes between the ears. Its just sad, because he really could have 3-5 majors by now.

I agree. How he shot that score on Sunday on that course in those conditions makes zero sense, especially considering how well he played the first two days. I have read in places people complaining about his brother being the caddy, basically bringing nothing to the table. I think there is something to that.

I was at work today in and out of meetings, but I was able to catch lunch at a sports bar and watched Jordan sink the putt on 16. I would have bet alot of $ at that point he would win. On the way back to work I was listening to ESPN on Sirius when he bogeyed 17. A coworker had the app on his iphone and I watched him hit that wedge short then miss that putt on 18. It was like I was hit in the stomach today, I really like him and wanted to see him make history. I will never forget today even though I couldn't watch all of it, and him losing still bothers me.

The way he carries himself and the maturity and character he exudes is uncommon. You never know how somebody really is but he seems to be the real deal. With the unfortunate fall of TW I think alot of people were concerned about the void he left. I think Jordan and the others coming up have answered alot of questions about the future.

I have no problem with Zach winning it, he is a good guy and grinds it out without the length needed so much nowadays, and he deserves respect.  But, Day looked like he was crushed. If Jordan couldn't win, I wanted Day to. I hope he wins one soon.

Playing in the Scottish Open must have screwed Fowler up.

Probably not, he just didn't play well enough to win.

A few things to add to this.

I completely agree with DJ's caddy situation. Maybe we are talking out of our asses; who knows? I just get the feeling he could really use a guy like Steve Williams. Someone with some ego and fire. Its weird, DJ walks with a swagger and has a moxie about him, but I feel like he just doesn't have enough ego. Someone who will be there to light a match under him when he is being all "DJ dumb" on the 8th hole at a major on Sunday. He needs that caddy to help carry him at times. With that said, I have the feeling (no evidence to this whatsoever) that DJ's drive is not there anymore. I think he lacks that will to get to the next level. I think he is a mental midget and since he has been so close, so many times, the minute he plays poorly, he gives up. Almost like Sergio, but he won't make whiny excuses like Sergio. Its really a shame because after Doral, I really thought DJ had that edge about him like he was out to prove he should be right up there with Rory and Spieth. Hope he proves me wrong because he is good for the game and is quite talented. He definitely has the ability to compete on their level for a long time. Unfortunately, I just don't see it anymore. I think too much suck and flop has occurred and he has mentally given up on that next level and might not even have it in him.

As far as Jason Day, I think he is exactly like DJ, but DOES have what it takes to win big mentally. I do truly believe Day will get a major. I think it will be a USO. He and DJ are virtually the same talent. I just get vibes from Day he has that extra drive. Hope it continues. I also think Day and his caddy Colin Swafford have a lot more professional working relationship. My expectations are very high and even higher now for Day to achieve a major.

I think he help him. But I also think he prepared for significantly worse weather than they got. Sure they got bad weather, but Sunday wasn't bad at all and parts of Thursday weren't that bad either. He prepped for conistently windier conditions.

People are calling Zach Johnson's win "anti-climactic." Good grief. What would they say if Marc Leishman won? At least we got a winner who was a previous major champion and 10+winner on Tour. Probably a future HOFer. I have always liked Zach. Nothing against Leishman or Oosthuizen, but they bore me a bit. Zach plays with a lot of passion and I like that. Love the way he swings the club. While I wanted Spieth to win, and Day winning would have been a great story, too, I can't complain with Zach winning. Very happy for him.

Btw, don't look now, but Zach very nearly won at Whistling Straits in 2010. Finished one shot out of the playoff. Actually led very deep into the back 9 on that Sunday.

Oosthuizen bores you and ZJ doesn't?! :-P I mean, no disrespect to Zach, but he's about as interesting as Chemistry class. He sucks at celebrating too...

I'm not so sure I agree with you. I wonder if he turns into Sergio. He's been close what, 5 times at this point? That has to wear on you as a golfer, and you could see how upset he was today. If he's close, he might start to think about all of the times he came up short.

That said, I do really like him. And he has the talent to be up there with Rory - probably has a similar talent level to DJ. If he gets a major done, he could easily win a couple. But I think he has to do it in a runaway fashion a la Rory at Congressional.

Johnson bores the hell out of me, too, as I pointed out in a thread last week.  Although I don't root for him, I don't dislike him.  But it wasn't as if the playoff had a bunch of favorites.  I was sort of pulling for Leishman, what with what happened to his wife this year.  But the guys I was really cheering for just fell short of the playoff.

JDay won't win a British unless he gets an extremely benign week. He cannot flight the ball. I do think his immense talent will overcome this deficiency and he'll win one going away, probably a Masters.

Yeah I pretty much feel the same way. I also like his instructor, Mike Bender.

    • Day 532, April 16, 2024 Played 18 holes at WW with @DrizZzY. It was productive, even if the first few holes (we really should warm up by at least making ONE swing 😄) weren't.
    • There are still holdouts that insist that if you think it’s Tiger it’s just recency bias. And that 18 > 15.
    • I agree. We will get it figured out. No worries on my part.   What do you find better about the H4? Just curious.
    • This is the first time I have played in this league but here is an interesting local rule they use. You are allowed to move your ball one score card length in either direction to improve your lie. Scorecard has to be in the folded position though. I love beachside golf. The other rule is you got to walk unless you have a handicap placard.
    • PGAT is all about Scottie right now and rightfully so. The PGAT has it's star right now and some potential good guys hoping Scottie takes some time off.  The LIV guys are of the radar until the PGA. There will be the Rory/ Hovland rumors to keep the fire smoldering until then.  You will probably get your wish as time moves on. What I like most about LIV is they are funded by a regime that has numerous human rights violations and the players don't seem to care. The fans certainly don't seem to mind. I admit, I went to LIV Miami to check it out, it wasn't empty.  I didn't see anyone protesting.
