And the continuing stooorrryy of a golf bag (Graham DeLaet's bag) gone missing but eventually found. Protein packaging blew up in carrying bag.

Just announced terrific price on Titleist staff bag on EBAY today barely used, got lost on it's way to Scotland and detoured through Columbia.

Tiger said in his press conference that just once before he dies he wants to play The Old Course backwards. "Play 1 to 17, 2 to 16."  Is that a thing? It was part of a discussion that he loves the way the course sets up and changes with different conditions. Then he sequed into that statement.

And I'm assuming he meant 1 tee to 17 green. Then 18 tee to 16 green. 17 tee to 15 green. Right?

Yes. And yeah, its a thing. Years ago (hundreds?) it was played forwards and backwards all the time. A lot of the bunkers make more sense playing it backwards, like the ones in the fairway on 12. Used to be that they played it backwards one day a year, in April I think. That would be a cold time to visit Scotland to play golf or I would have loved to give it a try on a trip. Don't know if they still do that or not.

Lol even the guy setting up the poll couldn't get it right.. but does someone's little poll change history .. me thinks not.

Have a ganders at www.theopen.com

For us on this side of the pond we take it seriously and get pretty pissed about it.

It's not a big deal. We call it the "British Open" because we're in the U.S. and our "Open" is the U.S. Open. If there was no U.S. Open, then people would call the British Open "The Open" over here. I call it "The British Open" and if you don't like it, then tough. It's still my favorite major, though.

I think you can call it whatever you want, and especially in thus case everybody understands which tournament you mean when you call it 'British Open'. That being said, it's a fact that the official name is 'The Open Championship' so to use a different name as the title of this topic is, for me, euhm...a little bit strange. On the other hand: who cares :-) On topic: it would be a big bummer if the Friday afternoon guys will get screwed. The one I'm cheering for also starts Thursday early in the morning, Friday in the afternoon.

There is a group with Jason Dufner, Miguel Angel Jimenez and John Daly. That is great.

This will give people something to talk about.

Golf Channel analyst shreds the theory that Tiger Woods has a shot at the British Open in a 4-minute monologue

Quote:

He said the Greenbrier was a really easy course, so it doesn't mean much that Tiger played well there:

"Coming from where he was to where he ended up at Greenbrier, yeah I'd be pleased as well. People have talked about his proximity to the hole but you have to take into account that the greens were pretty soft there, it's a pretty short golf course. The proximity to the hole for the field there was almost eight feet shorter, or closer to the hole, than the tour average. So it was a very easy golf course to hit good iron shots on. There were 78 players in that field, he was 70th in total driving. He hit a golf ball out of bounds. Another one should have gone out of bounds. He hit one in the water. It wasn't his best ball striking by a long stretch of the imagination. He only got it up and down half the time, he was ranked near the bottom of the statistics."

@BrandelChamblee

I pretty much agree with you, I don't know about the he needs to get thinner to get longer and the speed will come thing though.. The other stuff all made sense though.

Haha, I saw this last night, damn Daly. I'm not much of a prude and generally appreciate a wild streak in someone but jeez dude, get a clue.

Not much to do w/the Open, but the limited Jack Nicklaus 5 pound note was unveiled there. They even put the yardages on the back. Yowza.

Nicklaus is only the third person after the Queen and Queen Mother to be honoured this way in their lifetime.
The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) will issue two million of the notes bearing the image of the 65-year-old, which will be legal tender in the UK, to Scottish branches this Thursday.
He said he was "deeply honoured" as the note was formally unveiled in the Fife town at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club.

Jack, don't be the guy in the PG movie, be the guy in the R movie. The one you're not really so sure about.  :-)

I missed this one of Spieth banking shots off the wall on road hole from a couple of days ago. Looks like he went over the wall on one of them.

Tom Watson makes his final appearance at The Open this week (maybe). Former champions were exempt until they were 60 years of age until 2009, when Watson finished 2nd, which prompted them to give past champions that finish in the top 10 five years of extemption. If he finish in top 10, he can return to the championship, but probably not to St. Andrews.

Watson will tee it up for the 38th time, having won it 5 times, which is more than anyone else since Harry Vardon.

He almost pulled off one of the most amazing victories in 2009, where he lost the championship to Stewart Cink in a playoff. He almost became the oldest to win a major by a large margin, as the current is Julius Boros at the age of 48. Watson was 59 when he finished 2nd in 2009.

I don't think there were a lot of spectators out there rooting for Cink to win that playoff. We remember that tournament because Watson lost, not because Cink won, which is a bit sad for Cink, but he's still got the trophy.
