Ha yeah it was hilarious actually. She got into the U.S. Open because it was in our city and she loved it. She watched the Brittish Open and then this tourney. Then as she was crying she goes "what am I doing? I didn't even care about golf until a few months ago!" Lol.

Lol! Would be hilarious if you come home one day and she's got golf aids on like in Tin Cup and she's watching 5SK videos!

I'll be intrigued to see how much Rory dedicates himself to getting back to #1.

Rory isn't going to sit back and let Spieth hold #1 without a fight.  He's a proud guy and he has a hundred million reasons (Nike contract) to get back to winning majors.

His contract with Nike is incentive laden?

I actually think Rory is kinda lazy and rests on his laurels. He is so talented it comes easy for him at times. Spieth going to number one will give him the motivation he needs.

Great to see Jason finally winning a major. He's been doing so well in them for a long time now. Also impressed with Spieth once again being in contention.

Rory is a streaky player. He has been much more consistent the past 2 years. Which happens to be after he signed with Nike.

He took a big hit when he injured his ankle. Still he's played in 9 PGA Tour events, won 2 of them, had 6 top 10's.

That is pretty solid work. Besides the 2014 US Open, and the 2015 Open he's only finished outside the top 10 once, this year's PGA Championship. That was with being out of action with his ankle injury.

I wouldn't be calling him lazy with out actually knowing how he practices. His game has gotten significantly more consistent over the past 2 seasons in terms how he finishes in tournaments.

The Sunday night after the PGA is always kinda sad because it's basically the end of golf season until really the California swing in February. Yeah, I know there's the Fed Ex Playoffs, Presidents Cup and offseason events, but with football season ramping up, I have a hard time really following it, as do a lot of fans out there. Not the same feel. But I'm really looking forward to next year. I'm hoping Rory and Jordan can build a rivalry, I'm hoping Tiger can find it, and I'm looking forward to seeing how some of these young guns perform, such as Justin Thomas, Ollie Schneiderjans and Patrick Rodgers, all who I think could break out in a big way next year, along with Koepka and Finau. A lot to look forward to next year.

Yea I wean down my interest in golf after the PGA tournament Also our club ' s men's events wind down now It's funny. 5 years ago is when I started posting on golf forums when Dustin Johnson grounded his club at whistling straits and missed the playoffs and win Fun to watch and engage with you guys about golf back then and now Now it's baseball playoffs and football season coming up

Lazy? What? Rory has killed himself in the weight room the last few years, and has done good work on his swing as well. Not to mention he came back in a compressed timeline for that ankle injury; you don't recover that quickly without working hard. Lazy is a nuts way to describe any Tour player, but it's especially off-base to say about McIlroy.

My apologies, I should have used the word complacent instead of lazy. As for his Nike contract, he signed that at the end of 2012 and about 1.5 years of AWOL followed. Whatever was going on in his head at the time trumped playing up to his potential. That's all I'm saying.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Aside from that, super happy Jason finally got his major!  It's was a long time coming and he absolutely deserves it.  What a year for golf...

That doesn't make him complacent, that makes him human. He won two majors and a WGC in 2014 and he's won a WGC and a top-tier regular tournament in 2015. A 1.5 year slowdown is not evidence of complacency; it's a measure of how hard it is to keep it going.

Whatever. A player of his caliber doesn't play like he played for that 1.5 years. A player of his caliber shouldn't have streaks like he did this year before the U.S. Open I believe with those MCs. My comment is that Jordan going to number one will give him motivation. I base my comment on his past. If you feel otherwise then that's great. You can win. :).

Isn't that Rory's MO? He is inconsistent for several months, then brilliant for several months.

He is not the model of consistency Tiger of 1997-2009.

Contracts worth as much as Nike is paying Rory come with greater obligations than just wearing the logo. He was 23, adjusting to a greatly expanded list of professional responsibilities, also while juggling a relationship with a woman whose circumstances mirrored his. He can be forgiven for taking some time to adjust to the workload.

Yes he is streaky, though I would characterize it a little more than a few months off and on. The reason for this is what was being debated.

yup... actually, it is true of almost evey player, except their "brilliance" time is generally a couple weeks, vs. rory, who can maintain it for several months... that other guy was an extreme outlier, as he just stayed "brilliant" all the time, with occasional blasts of supernova...

as far as the event... i listened to it all day saturday and the last 16 holes on sunday on sirius pga radio... so can't directly comment on the cbs coverage, but having watched enough cbs broadcasts, i can pretty much imagine what the coverage was like... - very happy day won... i have a soft spot for him... glad chrisp cashed too... - fine effort by jordan... he isn't my favorite guy out there, but i have great respect for his game... - sad that tony didn't play better on sunday, but that wasn't unexpected... - i was pleasantly surprised at rory's result, coming in off an injury that left him with very little prep time... - the proliferation of driveable/too short par 4's that have little to no risk needs to stop... imo, i like to see 1 or 2 "shorties" mixed in, but the holes need to be designed so that there is significant risk involved... - bring back 3 shot par 5's, even if they have to trick up the hole a bit to do so... hell, if necessary, grow a big old 100 yard long patch of rough across the fairway that starts at about 260 (like seve did in a rc awhile ago, i forget which one)... they don't all have to be this way, but driver/wedge into par 5's doesn't seem "right" to me... i'd settle for 1 that is reachable by all, 2 that are reachable by the true bombers (but have severe repercussions if they miss), and one that requires at least a 150 yard shot for the third shot... - i wish the wind had blown for more than thursday afternoon, only because i would prefer for major championships to be a bit difficult... the combination of all the short par 4's, reachable par 5's and soft greens made the course play like a "pitch and putt"... maybe if they had "sub-air" and could have dried out the greens it would have been different... - maureen madill, while superb at providing a lyrical description of the scene at hand, was practically causing me to vomit with her descriptions of/reactions to the actual golf... which was too bad, because i could listen to maureen paint a word picture of grass growing and be content, but she made ibf sound like a grouchy old man when it came to actual commentary... all in all, a decent event, with a champion i was happy to see... given that i don't care for the golf course (although i like it a lot more than chambers bay), "decent" was about the "high point of expectation", and i got it... so i'm happy enough... 8 months til augusta... :-(

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
