I would love it if Daly was named captain. Do you guys honestly care enough about this fake dog and pony show prestige of the Cup to not want to be entertained?

Especially after his antics today, I think Daly would slice things up and help the ratings. Think Happy Gilmore and bringing in ratings.

He's a buffoon, nothing about him warrants being associated with the Ryder Cup.  If we want comic relief we could have Bill Murray or Adam Sandler be the captain.  You have young guys on the team.   What's Spieth, Fowler and Reed going to learn from him, how to empty your bag of golf balls into a water hazard and how to smoke and drink yourself to the edge of death ruining your marriages and career?

I don't find anything about him entertaining, I find him sad.  He's in a position that most people bust their butts for their entire lives to achieve and never do because they don't have his talent and he's wasted it.  I don't believe you reward someone with the honor of being Ryder / Presidents Cup captain when they've basically made a mockery of themselves and the game.

Well if we needed comic relief, then no, we would not give the job to Adam Sandler... :-D

I couldn't think of any other comics that had associations with golf but feel free to fill in your candidate.

Made a mockery of the game? Come on dude. Hitting all his balls in the water is funny. Why so up tight? I agree that I wouldn't behave that way, but golf needs some unhinged and wacky characters to differentiate from the boring robotic types.
Yep. But it's just now for me.  I can't stand the countless commercials, so I DVR'd it. Now I don't have to watch the Rory (Omega Watch? commercial) 17 times EVERY HOUR!

I do the same but I must admit, I've stopped to watch that Geico kraken commercial a few times, it's funny.
by far the best commercial of the tournament... :-D

It's not funny to me, it's a major, there are 100's of guys that would give anything to play in that tournament and he just pissed it away like he didn't care.  I don't find anything funny about it.

Judging by his reaction after he finally avoided the water I am going to say he wasn't hitting balls in the water on purpose. He just had a one hole meltdown but he was playing better than Tiger the day before.

^ I've only found two Rider Cups entertaining since I started playing golf in 2004. The one we won without Tiger - Anthony Kim, Boo Weekley, and J.B.Holmes seem to be the guys that carried us that week. The other one I enjoyed was when we lost on the final b/w Hunter Mahan and Grame McDowell. The rest have been a snooze fest to me. Way too serious for an exhibition to me. It is hard for me to think of an individual sport as us vs them unless it is the Olympics. I pull for just as many non-americans as I do americans week to week.

The rideher cup is a team event.

We are both correct. Golf is an individual sport. The Ryder Cup is a team event. My point is... all year I pull for Rory and Jason Day as much as I do any american. Somehow that is supposed to change for an exhibition? There is no way in hell I'm pulling for Patrick Reed or Jim Furyk over Rory/Day no matter what the circumstances.

To not pull for your own country is well.....un American.  Maybe you should move to Europe?

Guaranteed you would see Pat Perez as a captain's pick, and Darius Rucker as Asst. Captain.

Bring it on boys, what do we have to lose !?!?

Dignity.  Class.  Self-respect.  The good opinion of the golfing world.

A more intriguing question to me is whether Bubba will ever be a Ryder Cup captain.

I wonder if I'll still be on this side of the grass when it comes time for the Spieth and McIlroy captain-ships - hopefully head to head.

Maybe in a war, but not a sporting event.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

There is such a thing as national pride.  I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a patriot, and and as much as I dislike Patrick Reed, I would never root against the home team.

Hey honey...I don't feel like pulling for Patrick Reed against Rory in the Ryder Cup this year. The people on a golf blog don't think I'm American enough because of this. So I guess I have to quit my job and we have to move to Europe. That would make a lot of sense???? - We are getting off topic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, I used to be really into tennis before golf and I felt the same way about Davis Cup. Individual sports where I pull for different players from different countries all year make it quite wierd to pull against those same players b/c someone thought up some exhibition. It makes more sense to me in the Olympics. I generally pull for my favorite players to win their matches and hope our team squeezes out the total count in the Ryder Cup. I just can't get worked up over that type of event where I like just as many players from one team as the other.

i consider myself to be as patriotic as the next guy, but i draw the line at jingoistic nationalism...

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
