  1. 1. What do you think is a bigger deal, getting to play with Tiger or Jordan?

You need to get out more. Every list of the greatest golfers of all time has Bobby Jones in the top five. Also, I was responding to another poster above.

As for the comments "he doesn't like Tiger" you might want to think about add "reading comprehension" to your do list for 2016 as I've already stated that Tiger is one of the greatest golfers of all time, just below Jack and Bobby. But don't let facts get in the way of a good attack.

Top five and The Greatest of All Time are two entirely different concepts in my humble opinion.  I don't think anyone would discount Bobby Jones accomplishments, especially that he considered himself an "amateur" golfer.

Its unusual that you took this stern of an approach after your comments about jerks on another thread.  Just sayin.

Edited to say that I see this is now a poll.  I think they are equally as big of a deal.  One is a tried and tested 14 major champion.  The other is a young, seemingly very down to earth, approachable and likable guy who is the hottest thing going on the tour with his two majors wins this year and the positive media coverage.

I'm sure Tiger understands that Rory and Jordan now have the kids and it doesn't bother him in the least. For me, it's Tiger, he's the gold standard of my generation (although I'd choose Phil over Tiger). I'm sure my kids would choose Jordan, esp. my daughter.

Young female would rather her father played golf with one of the best golfers right now, age 22, than the formerly best player in the world, age 39.

heck, i know if i was a young female, i'd choose jordan too... he's a good looking guy, and tiger is balding and old*.... i'd choose tiger, but i'm a 52 year old male who drank the kool-aid a long time ago... my perspective is umm, somewhat different than a young female... * balding and old is definitely something i can relate to... :-(

I don't think his swing would look hideous up close. I think it would look amazing as would Spieth's. I would play with either. I would be more nervous around Woods though.

You never know @Kenny Lee lude Spieth.  As for me, I'd take Tiger's hideous swing any day, and will definitely, positively play with Tiger if that is ever offered to me.

That's essentially how I feel about it. Also, it was a funny tweet. Not a big deal.

Right because you wouldn't want a 14 time major champion ruining your swing

Even as bad as his year was, his scoring average was still 72.

To the poll question, I voted for Tiger, I like Spieth but Tiger still moves the needle more than Spieth. I also think the daughter meant the tweet to be a joke and just didn't know what to do when it "blew up".

yea, i suppose that is true... lol, a crack in the perfection... :-P i suppose it isn't very nice of me to hope it starts falling out faster... :-P i can still see why he'd be the choice off the younger set though...

Seems like the only golfers the younger females gravitate towards are the very rich ones. I mean in a fan like way. All the guys, well most of them, pull attractive women as partners but I don't think guys like Rory and Jordan are poster material a-la whatever the hot boy band is. Golf is still by and large considered a nerdy thing. Not sure how the twitter thing gained traction but it's apparent the girl knows a little about golf.

The Tiger Woods that won 14 majors would say 72 sucks, just like he told Curtis Strange that 2nd sucks, and 3rd is worse. I miss cocky, confident Tiger. He was the best I ever saw. But he's long gone, and not coming back.

Of course I would've voted to play with 2005-2009 Tiger over Spieth, But that Tiger doesn't exist anymore.

Agree that's how he feels, never said any different and I pointed out it was a bad year. Just saying that playing with a guy that just averaged 72 on the PGA Tour isn't going to ruin your swing.

Sure, tiger does move the needle but it's only because there is sooooooooo many golfers that are hopeless romantics and just can't except the fact that it's time to move on.Also, a +5 cap shooting a avg of par is bad and tiger is too much introverted compared to Jordan to enjoy hanging out with.

You are a 4.8.-Tiger could play lefty and wipe the floor with you.

I'm an 8 and I would smoke Tiger if he played lefty.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
