In South Carolina I've seen plenty of turkeys, alligators, deer, and snakes on the course.  The strangest thing I saw was a fox chasing a goose down in Charleston at the muni course.

- Hot air balloon landing on a golf course (wasn't playing at the time but lived next to the course)

- Girl a few doors down running naked on the course at night

- A car of 4 teenagers driving up the cart path to the 9th tee in the heart of the course. I think they missed the entry to the banquet area.

- Drunk barmaid and her drunk boyfriend riding around on a cart trying to find a 'discreet' place. Ran into them multiple times the last being right beside the green on a par 5. We drive up and she is kneeling on the seat with her head bobbing up and down in her gentlemen friends lap. The guy I am playing with gives out a big 'FORE!' as we pull up and she looks up giving us the classic dear in headlights look while wiping the back of her arm across her mouth. She no longer works there. It was funny to me but not so much to the father out playing with his pre-teen son.

- Meathead in tank top, jeans and wearing shit kickers hit into us a number of times on the day. The last being a long, hard dogleg left where the approach is over a pretty decent sized pond. He made a nice shot from 200+ out landing on the front of the small green and I walked over and kicked the ball into the pond. This does not make meatheads happy and he claimed he was just trying to layup (with a wood on a fairway that sloped hard down towards the water so a 7 iron might have been enough club to put him in the water). There was a lot of yelling on his part which eventually ended with me giving him the shoo sign with my hands and telling him to go away.

- A golf ball whizzing though a house window right next to me where the ball went between my face and computer monitor.

- A guy trying to hit OVER my fathers car in our driveway to try to get to the green (he was about 40 yards out of bounds).

- When I was about 15 there was a guy who I played with that when he hit the ball hard it would rise in stages. It would go out 100 yards and then jump up higher going another 50 yards jumping up suddenly again and another 50'ish yards jump up again. This was back in the 70's. It was astonishing to watch as a 15 year old kid.

- A 'friend' hit into a group of old guys we had been waiting on all day. 3 of us wouldn't hit because they were too close. 4th guy hit anyways and we watched in what seemed like slow motion as the ball found it's way to the beanie button on top of the old guys baseball/golf hat felling him. Never played with that 'friend' again.

- Big gators in teeny, tiny "ponds". It was a year after El Nino and there was flooding. Gators got stuck in ponds after the waters went back down. The ponds were walled with big pieces of lumber completely vertical. So once the water went back down the gators couldn't climb out.

Was anyone playing when Han Solo landed his broke airplane? That's gotta be a good one.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I've saw:

  • Foxes, lots of foxes
  • Local kids riding motorbikes on the course stealing players balls (don't play that course anymore)
  • Me hitting a thin 64 degree, like a bullet that wen't about 15 feet of the ground straight into the railings outside the clubhouse, on the second tier (where a LOT of guys were drinking). That made one hell of a bang!
  • One guy from another group snap his club in fury, then walk over and snap a guys club in our group who laughed
  • A massive swarm of bees, came directly at me about 6 feet of the deck (I panicked big time!) in Tucson when I was over there with the RAF in about 2004 (about my 3rd round ever)

We don't get much of the dangerous wildlife over here, don't think we actually have anything that could kill you, maybe a Bull could, but you don't get many of them on golf courses.

A few months ago, as I was teeing up my ball, I saw one duck chasing another duck.  I thought that the chasee had gotten too close to the chaser's nest.  Well, when the chaser caught the chasee, that was not the case.  Needless to say, there was a little fowl porn going on in front of the tee box on the 6th hole!

I forgot about the naked sunbather. Nice body. Out sunning herself in plain view. She was on her stomach facing away from us. Not a bad angle. I yelled FORE hoping I would get the full monty. No luck. Every time I play that course, I look but have never had a repeat.

Many moons ago, was playing Sugarloaf Golf Club in Maine and after hitting a drive on the 18th hole, a moose wandered out onto the fairway and stood near my ball.  Waited about 5 minutes before the moose moved off into the woods.  Darn thing just stared at us, like come any closer and I'm going to run through your little cart.

Saw one of these on the golf course I play. Drove it right on to the practice green and practiced putting. Only saw it one time.

Saw my first one about a month ago, but it was a bit smaller, lifted the guy completely vertical, didn't leave any marks on the green. If anyone remembers the original Star Trek it reminded my of Captain Pikes wheelchair.

Hard to explain but i will try.

Coming of a green an Asian gentleman was frantically waving at us..Ok what's up sir? He was making steering motions and saying cart, cart, cart...Couldn't figure it out, but started to follow him.

Between the green we were on and the hole.tee they were on was a section of bullrushes about 30 feet across, with a cart path running beside them. I keep following and he is frantically pointing at the bullrushes about 30 yards in front of his tee. I walked up and saw that somehow their cart (his son was still in it) was on a 90 degree angle to the path about 10 feet into the 6 foot high bull rushes stuck in the mud.

After thinking to myself (How the%^&^) my buddy and I just looked at each other and started laughing uncontrollably. We did pull the cart out and they went on their way, but man it is something i will never forget.

Have you been playing Middlesbrough Municipal, this sounds very familiar!

A regular at my old home course whom I was paired with from time to time never used a putter.  Baby pitches with his lob wedge on the green.  Was a pretty solid player.  I'd guess he played tee to green like a low 80s player.  First time I played with him I was annoyed, figured he must be damaging the greens.  But honestly I played probably 5-6 rounds with him and only once saw him do any damage to the green.  Not even really a divot, more like a tiny depression.

Was a little annoying anyway though just because he slowed things down because he three-"putted" a ton...

Was going to say once is worse than none, but if he repaired his pitch marks he's ok in my book. People who don't should be thrown off the course.

My dad told me a story about how a racoon ran onto His cart and stole his bag of weed. My dad followed the little sucker and when the raccoon stopped in the woods there was a big pile of food and drinks.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
