Probably the jackholes on the hole behind me that rolled their cart.  Technically I didn't see it since it happened directly behind me but I certainly heard it and saw the immediate aftermath.

The oddest thing I've actually seen was last fall when I bladed my driver and smoked a goose in the ass about 30 yards in front of the tee box.  Too bad the course was mostly empty at the time and I was the only one who saw it.

A groundskeeper with loud squeaky shoes carrying a large bucket with a louder squeakier handle trying to walk behind somebody trying to putt. Instead of just stopping and letting the guy putt he tried walking slower which just made him stand out even more. He just didn't get it. The guy putting turned around and said really? He stopped loudly squeaking but the guy putting really couldn't recover his focus and missed a 6 footer. I bet we could start a whole new thread on funny groundskeeper stories.

Many moons ago, was playing Sugarloaf Golf Club in Maine and after hitting a drive on the 18th hole, a moose wandered out onto the fairway and stood near my ball.  Waited about 5 minutes before the moose moved off into the woods.  Darn thing just stared at us, like come any closer and I'm going to run through your little cart.

This season two different occasions here on the other side of the border in NB a full grown but antlerless young male pranced his way across the course.   Everyone left him alone and he proceeded moose merrily on to his next engagement.  This does not happen in Sept or Oct .  Other than that,  we have the full gamut of wildlife and fowl.  Canada geese are especially prolific processors and their evidence ruins some of the greens. A Beaver decided to   gnaw through several trees on one course in Fredericton. Not so strange in and of itself, The response to getting rid of the rodent while protecting the  other trees was the strangest parts.  with bands and smells and midnight surprise attacks.  They never did get him though

My fiance did this about a year ago, but she bladed hybrid and hit the goose in the side.

Have you been playing Middlesbrough Municipal, this sounds very familiar!

haha, it was a small course in the middle of a housing estate in Loughborough. There were rumours of the odd burnt out car in the rough as well. Classy course eh?

A few months ago, as I was teeing up my ball, I saw one duck chasing another duck.  I thought that the chasee had gotten too close to the chaser's nest.  Well, when the chaser caught the chasee, that was not the case.  Needless to say, there was a little fowl porn going on in front of the tee box on the 6th hole!

Did you have to wait long? :-$

Hard to explain but i will try.

Coming of a green an Asian gentleman was frantically waving at us..Ok what's up sir? He was making steering motions and saying cart, cart, cart...Couldn't figure it out, but started to follow him.

Between the green we were on and the hole.tee they were on was a section of bullrushes about 30 feet across, with a cart path running beside them. I keep following and he is frantically pointing at the bullrushes about 30 yards in front of his tee. I walked up and saw that somehow their cart (his son was still in it) was on a 90 degree angle to the path about 10 feet into the 6 foot high bull rushes stuck in the mud.

After thinking to myself (How the%^&^) my buddy and I just looked at each other and started laughing uncontrollably. We did pull the cart out and they went on their way, but man it is something i will never forget.

That's definitely a head-scratcher. :-\

Well not that odd but dang funny.

A few weeks back I'm at my very hilly local course and I'm on the green of a par 4 which is one of three parallel fairways all with the same significant cross slope.  I look back to see a three wheel cart absolutely hauling from the upper fairway across mine toward the lower fairway.  It was moving very fast and straight.   Just behind it, a larger, older fella was running faster than he ever thought he could. Behind him was an electric cart with passengers at full speed - which was still not fast enough to keep up with the two in front.

Straight out of Benny Hill, or Caddyshack or.... 3 Stooges

Finally hit a tree in the next fairway.

I don't get this. Is it an inside joke?

Why were they doing that?

The 3-wheel cart was carrying clubs and was rolling downhill at a high speed.  The guy was chasing it at beyond his full speed.  The electric cart was trying to help but still not fast enough.  It all ended in a pile in the lower fairway.

I didn't see this myself, so it's a technical violation, but it belongs here.

My current home course has a historic and beautiful clubhouse that does a thriving wedding trade. At one recent reception, a guest (also a longstanding member) became severely over-refreshed. His "friends" stripped him buck naked and left him asleep under the snooker table in the games room, then departed. Upon arising in the early hours, with the premises locked up tight, our man's stagger towards the bathroom sets off the alarm system, which also alarms him considerably in his befuddled state. Attempting to escape, he throws a chair through the glass panel of the front door and takes off up the ninth hole into the night, only to be met by the responding Surrey Constabulary -- who open negotiations by macing him in the face. (This is traditional in England instead of simply shooting people dead, which I understand is the US default.) Anyway, blinded and enraged (and still naked), he manages to punch out one officer at which point the other plods -- assuming they are unobserved -- proceed to give him a proper kicking, breaking several ribs in the process. However, due to the scale of the ruckus, one of the resident groundskeepers has now come to see what the fuss is all about and become a rather inconvenient witness, so the upshot is that no one will be prosecuted and no coppers will be referred to the complaints board and if one were to want to remain a member then one would probably have to pay for the damn door and keep one's head down from now on.

This was on reddit this morning. Fire from a cigarette stub. Now if it was on the putting green near the pin you could legitimately yell "Fire in the hole!"

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.
