My Swing (Hardspoon)

Hardspoon

Recommended Posts

I need to get back to work on this - I've still been playing so much golf I haven't had a chance to practice my full-swing priority piece at all.  I have been practicing short game and putting intermittently, but not enough to actually get better.

This (from Game Golf) sorta summarizes where I'm at right now:

I'm hitting my driver really well (enough to get me to single digits per strokes gained)...putting OK, considering...but my short game and my irons are a weak spot.

With the colder weather coming, I'll be doing more range work, and hope to get the full swing improved over the winter.

If not...I'll just keep playing a lot of golf.  :)

I got out to the range today for my first swings in months.  Nothing fancy, just focused on gripping the club properly and trying to make good contact.  I actually hit the ball solidly and it felt good (for it being 45 degrees).  Felt good.

I've still been playing a lot of golf, and not really practicing.  I am focusing on two full-swing items when playing:

  • Finishing my backswing / full shoulder turn
  • Proper grip (still a recurring issue for me)

When I do those two correctly, I have the ability to play pretty well.

I'm also focusing on two things that lead to a lot of lost strokes in the short game:

  • Shoulder turn when hitting partial wedges, rather then getting "armsy" and hitting a lot of fat/thin shots
  • Hip turn in my pitching motion...same thing

I'd love to have time to practice more and really work on the full swing, but in the meantime, my scores and play are improving because of the stuff above.

First post here in a year - eww.

Had an awesome session with @iacas on GEARS a couple weeks ago.  The good news is that I've finally gotten to a point where I don't need to worry about my shoulder/hip turn - was definitely doing that enough.

Current priorities:

  • Grip (again, as always and forever)
  • Getting my hips shifted "back and back" in my backswing (90% of my full swing practice focuses on this)

Next step will be to shallow the swing by throwing my hands out, "towards the plant", in my downswing (10%).

I'm still messing around with the GEARS data...it's frigging awesome...but wanted to post this as my internal monologue and practice.
