Being an Avalanche fan, I have seen this work very well.  I have also seen this go horribly wrong as the team allows a goal right after pulling the goalie.  Instead of having 3 minutes to tie the game they were now down 2 goals.  A much harder task.

Yeah. If you think about it, it should have been obvious.

Does that make Roy a genius or is everyone else just a bit dumb?

I think its more about having the confidence to do so.  Leaving a wide open net for 2 plus minutes is not an easy thing to pull the trigger on.

Don't see why not. You haven't scored enough goals in the previous 57 minutes. Who cares if you lose by two goals or even three?

Self-confidence is obviously something ole Patrick never lacked for. And yes Mr. Avs fan, I'm still really pissed with Tremblay over that night against Detroit.

I don't think its about losing by 1 or 2 goals.  Its about letting in that empty net goal that can erase any momentum you had.

You are buzzing around the net the prior 5 minutes then pull your goalie with 2:30 left.  If the defense scores an easy goal from center ice your whole team will be deflated and your scoring momentum is gone.  The key is finding the balance between risk and reward.  Roy definitely went too far sometimes.

Certainly they won't all be this crazy, but they're going to be mostly fun.

It's going to be a long season for the Flyers. They lack the speed to play most NHL teams at this game.

Saw Price's save on Sid The Kid last night.  Where the heck would the Habs be with out him?

The fellas on the tube said that's the first 4-0 start to a season for Montreal since the 1977-78 season.

And so far it seems they made the right choice naming Max the captain.

It's funny that the Garrison finally scored after all those scoring chances.

Whoo hoo!  0 and 4!   This is going to be (yet) another long season for the Oilers.

Haha, where does Austin Matthews fit into that team?   When will the Oilers ever draft a Defenseman with their top pick.  I know they have stumbled onto must-take forward talents, but they really need to get some D help.

At least you have those fabulous orange tops to focus your eyes on.

The Oilers did draft a good defenseman in Darnell Nurse.  He's ripening in the AHL right now.  It might not be the wisest choice, but I'd rather the team abandon the pick and try to poach another teams 2-3 guy.

This team has has only had one stud d man since about 1995, damn you Chris Pronger.  We've had lots of Janne Niinimas, Tom Potis and Matt Greenes though.

As for the jerseys, I've seen worse, I guess. Gotta milk every penny out of the public before they quit showing up for games in the new arena.

He doesn't. Austin Matthews is going to get picked by the Devils ;-)

So the CBJ axed Todd Richards today and replaced him with ... drum roll ... John Tortorella.

This ought to be interesting.

Wow, of all the coaches available right now, Torts would be second last on my list to hire.

    • This video got into my youtube feed. And I watched it.  But I'm confused why not spinning in "the revealer" is important to making putts.  Maybe I'm oversimplifying this, but it seems to me, your hands are holding the putter. So, it isn't going to spin when you swing it. The ball isn't that heavy so as to overpower my hands when I don't hit it dead center. If the ball was so heavy as to overpower my hands when I don't hit it dead center, than certainly it would be heavy enough to overpower the lie-angle balance, right?  Don't get me wrong. I like the demo. It's something they can show people and say "Look our putter is different." But the more I think about it the less I think this feature matters.  I have an open mind, however.  Let me know if there's really a benefit to this that I just don't understand.

    • Those are good. But they are like the Dan Marino of cookies, The Oatmeal Raisin is the Tom Brady of cookies. ... IMO ... 👍😜👍 Eh... I'll make the black and white cookie the Vinnie Testaverde of cookies. 👍👍... Once again, this is my opinion.
    • Do you have another son-in-law that you don't really like?  The answer to your question IMO is lessons. Many others have mentioned why.  BUT...... If you son in law is abnormally tall, or abnormally short, or has super long arms or super short legs or something like that, then at least a static fitting would be wise.  Having said that, just because lessons are likely to give him more improvement than new fitted clubs, doesn't mean you shouldn't give him the gift of new fitted clubs. There will still be some benefit there, plus, going through a fitting and getting shiny new clubs is fun. ... And golf should be fun.
    • Love me some Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. but it still comes in second to the Black and White (Half-Moon) cookie
