50!
A stinkin 50!
I struck the ball well, however it landed in not so great spots.
Thick grass, which led to thicker grass, which led to down hill lies.

Even when I was on the green in regulation, I 3 putted from within 10 ft.

Either the course was not playing well, or I was not playing the course well!

Path  and club face control is nonexistent. The shots with the best contact are pretty much straight overdraws. And somehow I was just flubbing chips and peaches, which I have been doing in a long time. I wasted at least six shots due to my short game. Still, the long game is a mess.

Been a while since my last post.

82 at Ranch Country Club, CO. Solid on the from but unlucky with a string of missed greens and bogeys. 1 - 3 putt on a par 5.

Decided to play golf and not golf shot on the back, thoughtful club choices etc. 7 pars holes 9-18. Made some putts set up by good planning. Decent round but could’ve been better.

Best round of the year today.....actually best round in 2 years, and it wasn't even at my home course.   Par 71 and I went 41/38 for a 79.   Nothing real fancy, just didn't get into any real trouble.  Only hit 50% fairways, but every miss was just fine.   Had one birdie, but only one double which was a bad 3 putt.

Shot a 40 (+5)

Still need to exaggerate stuff more. Still doing the swing stuff more often.

Played Sunday at my home course and shot an 83.....with four 3 putts.   So that is at least promising.   Played Men' Night last night (9 holes) and was Even after 7.....but then had a tough bogey and a terrible double to finish +3.   Either way.....I like the way things are trending.

My game, for a lot of reasons is finally starting to improve.

I darn near completed the no sixes challenge this morning. I snuck out early today and played my home course. I was the first one off and finished in under 2 hours. Screenshot2025-07-08143405.thumb.png.26e5b26bf496eadbf9b94bc81aef0d26.png

I hit 8 fairways and was just off on 4 others. Only 2 tee balls were what I'd consider wild. (I made a GIR from the next fairway over on one of them. 🤷‍♂️)

I made 8 GIR's and had 8 NGIR's. I shot my lowest round since 2019 and didn't even putt particularly well. I had four or five really good birdie chances and didn't convert any. I also missed one well inside 3 feet on 13. That one hurt. Oops.

I played really well on Wednesday. Shooting a +1, 37 on the back nine. I birdied 2 of the last 4 holes. My approaches are where I'm seeing the biggest difference. I think the swing I've been working on for the past few months is starting to sink in. Here is Wednesday's strokes gained vs a 5 HCP.

I'm excited to play tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing if this is this the start of a parade or just a lone drummer passing by?

That is a 9.8 differential if my calculations are correct. That would be an exceptional score if it is 7.0 less than your handicap index. Congrats

Thank you, sir.
As I sit here right this moment I'm mentally gearing up for Wednesday Night golf league. I'm stoked to play as I'll be very curious if I've found something real or if it's just a blip on the radar.

Well, crap.

Last night didn't go well. I actually hit my irons very well. Maybe too well. Flew the over the green on a couple of occasions. So, I got to the course late, therefore no warm up. Right from the car to the teebox. All the gold or yellow tees we normally play were set way back yesterday. We basically played the tips. That seemed kind of odd, but what ever.

Hole 1: Hit a great drive. Left PW to the flag. My shot never left the flag and literally came down on the top of the flag stick. (Which turned out to be a bad thing.) I three putted to bogey.

Hole 2: Par 3, played long yesterday (again, from the tips), I hit hybrid off the tee. NGIR bogey on two.

Hole 3: Crushed my drive on the par-5 third. Possibly the longest drive I've hit all year... and it drew. Unfortunately I hit it where there isn't a golf course. Three from the tee, double bogey.

Hole 4: I hit a great drive to the center, hit PW to about 10 feet, 2-putted, par. Yay!

Hole 5: This was a mess. My tee shot found a tree, I had to punch out, then still had no angle at the green, made a double.

Hole 6: Solid drive into a fairway bunker. Advanced it well, but my 3rd was a wedge which I flew long on the par-5 sixth. Fatted a chip, bogey.

Hole 7: NGIR on the par 3 from way back at the tips. Chip on, 2-putt boogie. eh?

Hole 8: Ugh! ... My approach flew the green and I got "sand-trapped". I tried to get cute out of the bunker, then went bunker to bunker. Made a triple. It was just sad.

Hole 9: Played fine, GIR, 2-putt.

So, needless to say it was a bit disappointing.

Even though you didn't score well, take solice in the fact you hit the longest drive of the year! 😏 I enjoy following your rounds and can imagine the scenario.   Thanks for sharing

I have played that course a lot. Mostly scrambles/outings. I enjoyed the read and could picture each hole and got nervous thinking about number 5. That hole is scary. 200 yard layup off the tee?

Shot a six over par  41.

Kind of one of those rounds work off is stupid. I had only two flushed shots the entire nine holes. One was a T-ball that ended up pretty good. The other was a six iron on hole nine a par 3. But the sixth iron ended up being a pulll draw that ended up about 25 yards left of the green.

Got off to probably one of my best starts ever last night.   Was -1 thru 5 and finished the front 9 with a +1 (37).   The back 9 wasn't very good but we were playing speed golf to try and beat the darkness.   Ended up with 37/44 for an 81.   Still a great score for me.    My last 5-6 rounds have all contributed to my handicap index so we trending in the right direction.

Shot a 42. Got to making 1/2 to 3/4 my normal swing. Much better tonight. Should have been a few strokes lower. I blades a pitch shot on hole 1. Didn’t get width. Tried to make a 3/4 swing on a par five, but hit it full swing because my 3/4 is a full swing. A 8 iron went 180 yards and hit the cart path over the green into the lateral hazard. 😳

    • Day 262 5-12 Got an early practice session in this morning. Arms off body was the main focus with getting chest through with speed, I did much better with wrist arching through the downswing.
    • Yea, developing a proper shot zone for that approach should would be helpful. If you are bringing OB into play more than you like, then it is either needs to be an accepted reward for the risk. If you hit 10 shots from that tee ball landing area. If like 1 ball goes OB, that could be outlier shots you need to discard. If more than that is creeping in, then it is probably not the correct shot.  Maybe it needs to be more nuanced. Maybe you hit more shots OB from the left side of the hole than right due to shot shape. If you hit it left to right, maybe being on the left side makes you aim further right, bringing in OB right. It could be an aiming issue.
    • Thank you, @saevel25.  First two points, definitely, and those are things I can do.  PGA Tour average being 3.0 from 100 yards in the rough (or 160 in the fairway, per ESC) is a great reminder that a 5 is a really good score on a par-5 and the occasional six isn't anything to be upset about, as long as I played it intelligently.   I'm playing in less than a week, and I checked the three par-5s against ShotScope's 5-handicap baseline.    My last par on two of them yielded a 0.23 stroke gain (each), while the last one had -0.07 on my last par (I wonder if ShotScope measures straight-line distance, because there's some slight bending going on). Hmmm, that last one, especially with between the ropes.  I think I'll go through my past rounds later today and see where I'm losing strokes there -- I would guess it's on my second shot, since that one makes me nervous because of O.B. left and right on the second shot.  Yet, I think I can hit a hybrid from my typical tee shot landing area and have a distance wedge into the green.
    • Goal 1) Keep the ball between the ropes. The ropes being where you have a full swing at the ball to advance it as far towards the green as possible. Not in trees, bunkers, hazards, long grass, OB, etc...  Goal 2) Advance the ball as far as possible towards the green with respect to your shot zone. Keep the ball in play, ideally in the fairway, but the rough is not terrible. Stay away from hazards, including bunkers. Ideally, you will in play with a short iron, distance wedge shot, pitch shot, or on the green. If this is the case, then think of it as having a par 3 that is the distance left on the par 5. If you are hitting a full swing short iron, then that is going to be difficult to get par than bogey. PGA Tour is 3.0 from the rough from 100 yards. This might be where fairway matters the most.  PGA Tour rough is tougher than what we usually play. If you get can this close to 50/50 for par/bogey than you will most likely end up more pars than bogies on par 5's. You would probably be better than 50/50 if you end up closer to the hole. This is where the advice would be, aim at the center of the green with full swing shots into par 5's.
