Played 14 holes today, had to fill in "net par" on the other 4. I forget what the term is for doing that. Ended up with an 83, ties my best 18. Differential of 12.1, easily the lowest differential I've ever posted.

I was one over par stepping onto the 9th tee, though - no mulligans, no gimmes, too. I hit 5 of the first 8 greens, and even birdied two of them, no 3-putts on the front either. Twice failed to get up and down, once had to regroup after a poor tee shot, but hit the green from 100 yards on my third.

I shot a 38 on the front (best 9 for me, by 3... and at a much harder course than where the previous 41 came from).

Back 9... really poorly. Bogey double double oh please let the sun set...

44 on front and 44 on the back. Consistently bad. Shot a 79 on this course a few weeks ago. Something is up with me and my driver - I don't think my ball ever got more than 10' off the ground.

I shot 41 for a net 32 during my league last night. 5 pars, 3 bogies, and 1 double. I was in the zone, and I absolutely trounced my opponent.

Lately, I've been good off of the tee, and very comfortable attacking the pin even with long irons/ hybrids. The difference last night was that instead of going to the driving range, I went to the practice green.

My best shot of the night was on a par five:
1. Purposely hooked my driver around the dogleg left.
2. Tried to layup my 4 hybrid short of the creek in front of the green. I hit it too good, and I wound up in the creek.
3&4. Dropped my penalty, but the only shot that I had was an extremely low punch under a tree onto the short side of the green. It was on target, but a little hot so it rolled off the left rear into the sticky rough.
5. (Best Shot) Oh no! What to do? Getting back to the cup is a very treacherous downhill tiered slope. I hit a mini flop shot that just caught the top of the slope and just trickled down right next to the cup.
6. Putted out to save bogie.

It's funny that one is more satisfied recovering from peril than when playing a hole properly and getting par.

I played two rounds yesterday. The first was at a new course 72.7/136 and I shot a 96. I was really happy with that. The second round was at a much easier course I know very well. Unfortunately, I forgot how to putt and ended up with 7 three putts. 4 of those I was on in regulation and missed pars :( I ended up with 40 putts total. Gross.

Just finished my round from this morning. Shot a very disappointing 85 (45/40) Had 6 three puts! Argg. 5 of which were three puts after I had made GIR. Very unlike me since putting is usually a solid part of my game. However, my approach shots were great today and managed to keep the ball in play all day except for ball in the water.

Booooo, Middletown Country Club. So i have a tee time for 4 days. I show up and the guy tells me its only $18 to play today because they ARIATED the greens. So i already drove there and im all ready to golf so i say screw it lets play. Unreal how impossible it is to putt. I actually was driving and hitting my irons impecable. If it was not for the ariated greens i think i would have broke 80 easy. Ended up shooting a 90. Which i was told by alot of people that thats a very good score for ariated greens.

Almost holed a 160 par 3 with a 7 iron, hit the top of the hill in back and rolled right at the pin and past it. Luckily on the crappy greens i hit the Birdie putt!

I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

shot a 3 over 74 today... I am very pleased today. Thats the best round i have had in probably 7 years. I told myself when i tee'd off today that i was going to hit straight drives and put the ball in the middle of the greens today. And wouldn;t you know it thats basically what i did. I made myself play safe, boring golf and it turned out to be a wonderful and enjoyable round. If i could have sank a putt longer than 10' today i really feel as though i could have shot even par. Had a 15' putt on the last hole to shoot par for the back nine, but i missed it low. Oh well, I am super geeked about my golf progress this year, and I am playing tomorrow and monday morning so hopefully this is the start of a very good weekend.

I shot a 74 at Carroll Valley today. I was -1 on 12 tee. Its a downhill 565 yds Par 5. I nut a drive and have 250 into a somewhat receptive green. Total block with a 3 wood. Make DOUBLE. Then I step to 13 tee. Nut another drive and have 135 into a very large green with bunkers front and left. No wind. Blade a 9 iron into the lip of the front bunker. Another double. All pars into 18 tee. A Par 3 finishing hole. Hit a hybrid from 215 to 10 feet and make birdie.

The round that could've been. 4 over on two of the easiest holes on the course.

Shot 71(+3) yesterday. Front nine were horrible, I think I made 1 GIR ended up with +3, then the second nine were the most stressful holes in my life I think... 10th hole birdie putt from the fringe hit the flagstick and out, 11th birdie putt short by half inch from the cup, 12th birdie putt lips out, 14th hole lips out the birdie, 15th hole birdie putt lips out... 18th finally a birdie goes in... a even par (34) that might have been a (-5) round.

Cheers!

Shot a 98 this morning, my first sub-100 round since last summer so I'm actually very pleased. 37 putts which is disappointing, especially when I only hit two GIR and both were three putts.

Teed off with little warm up, and opened 8-5-7 on a par 4 - par 3 - par 4 respectively which really hurt my score and confidence but I know to give myself longer in future and really warm up.

My chipping was excellent with my PW today, that's a really plus from today. I've also eradicated the massive hook I had the last weekend I played. A big score but it's a step towards my aim of bogey golf by next summer.

Play at the Celtic Manor, played the Roman Road today and shot 88, not too bad it is a par 70 with a SSS of 74 apparently, lowest score is 86 around there so a good day, Tee'd off at 07.30 and it was nice to be out on a course with no one about, and the sun was shining :)

Played well, drove the ball great and loast a few Irons left (pin high though) but my 50 yard ish chips were crap, over bunkers I fluffed them into the bunkers or thinned them over the back :( bump and runs were fine though.

Oh and lost a ball just left of the fairway (first cut of short rough) on a second shot (6 Iron) saw it land and no bounce so I can only assume it went under ground as it vanished which added a couple of shots to that par 4 and ended up witha 6 :(

I will have to say this was probably my best score ever all around. Played with some friends who are just hacks, but I dont mind. Before hand they were talking about how they hope to break 100 (none of them did, one shot 101) I told them I wanna shoot under 90. Said I will be happy with "bogey golf"

Things didnt look to good out of the gate. Started out going double bogey, bogey to start the show. Then hole 3 I had a nice chip in from about 40 feet from the cup for birdie. Put me 2 over for the front as i shot par the rest of the 6 holes on the front. Shot a 36 (+2) on the front. Very happy with that.

Back 9 was not bad as well. 1 bird (2 feet from hole on par 3) 4 pars and 4 bogies for a 39 (+3) on the back for a total of 75.

Now that is alot better than the "hope I break 90"

And I owe it all to this site. I have learned that I dont swing very hard and a soft compression ball is good for me. When I swing hard I have less control. Also a few tips to turn my slice into a fade. LOL. And many putting tips as well. Only had 32 putts, I am happy with that as well. I ddint hit many fairways though (6 of 14) but I just missed them just off the fairway. Only hit 8 of the 18 GIR. Again just missing them on the fringe and having good chips to save me. Also I shortened my back swing for better control. I do need to work on my tempo though. Sometimes I feel like I am going too slow.

So I wanna say Thank you to everyone who post helpful tips on here.

had the strangest round today... shot a 90
i was hitting much longer than usual... maybe my shoulder is getting better...
had the most amazing shots from the worst lies and completely duffed shots on perfect lies...
had a few monster drives and actually overshot a few fw's...
some approach shots flew greens...
no sand... no water... only lost 1 ball in some jungle rough...
scoring was all over the place... par followed by doubles singles birdies and almost an albatross... guess i was shooting for a royal flush... thank god i avoided triples

Shot an 86 on Friday from the back tees at the local muni.

Total opposite of my last round which was a 76. My driving sucked, I hit 2 fairways all day. But my irons were way better, hitting 10 greens from the rough and other bad places. My last round I hit 10 fairways and 9 greens because my iron play was very rough.

My putting still sucked, with 35 putts for the round. Hitting a lot of putts off the toe and missing to the right. Going to the range today to work on the wooks and I will be spending a lot of time on the putting green.

82 (43/39)
Front 9 was playing like normal but back nine every thing started to click i was 2 under after 5 holes while normally i struggle to get one birdie.
I ended up getting 3 over on the back.
82 is my personal best as well i have got it about 5 times now.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
    • I was agreeing with you/jumping off from there.
