What'd You Shoot Today?

Played 9 yesterday.  Nice weather, though hot and breezy ~17mph.  Struck the ball pretty well, but pushed more shots than I would have liked.  Need to keep that left arm pressure point a little better without letting my torso get tense.  I was way too relaxed yesterday.  Putting was meh.  Played from the forward tees and had a hard time making a club selection on a lot of holes and felt weird taking short irons off par-4s, so I just overclubbed and played short-pitch approaches.  52 degree from 125 into a slight breeze was the number on 8.  Couldn't believe how much the Z-Star XVs float on short pitches.  I was concerned that I wouldn't be getting enough spin, but I got plenty.  Great ball and sad every time I lose one.  I love eating up the par-5s now with my new swing and new ball.

May 29 Marty Sanchez Public Course 108.  Some horrible shots topping hybrid, Bad tee shots.  But also some great ones as well Driver going 250 and straight when not jacked up. Pitch shot from 100 yards within 6 feet of the hole.  Getting there been doing this for 3 months and love the game, and the scenery here in New Mexico.

Shot a 42 (+7, 31.1/103) in what must have been the fastest 9 holes I've ever played -- 1 hour and 15 minutes. I'm still struggling off the tee and the penalties hurt, but I'm starting to feel really confident out there. I chipped in on 3 for birdie, which was a first. I missed an additional birdie and par save on ~30 foot putts by an inch or two each time, where I normally would have come up 10 feet short or 10 feet long and had 3 putts. My putting has gotten a lot better as has my chipping. My distance control with my 5i on down is getting a lot better too. I missed greens but I was missing them 15 yards left or right instead of long or short. I thank GolfShot GPS for half of that. :-) I'm also really happy with how my ball striking is improving. A month ago I was good for 4-5 shots a round of shanks, topping the ball, or a really thin or fat shot. The last few outings I've been far more consistent and it's showing. A lot of it for me has been a real focus on keeping my head down through impact. So, straighten up off the tee a bit, work on my mid/short iron accuracy, and I'll be breaking 40 on this course in no time. Ironwood today an easy executive 9 by my work. par 29. I didnt exactly keep track the whole time.

Started off playing a few balls.

hole 1) birdie par bogie

hole 2) birdie birdie par bogie

hole 3) par par bogie bogie

hole 4) First 4 balls 3 OB and 1 in the first cut (I couldnt get the driver to draw, they all pushed just as much as I wanted to but never came back) 5th ball pulled out 3 wood and hit baby fade same distance as my only drive that landed in bounds. ended with a par and a bogie.

hole5) par par bogie

hole6)par bogie and a shank OB after being with a foot of getting hit in the face with a ball. I litterally ducked at the last second or it would have. Was somebodys driver 1 hop

hole 7)par and caught telephone wire which is a re tee but my only ball was already halfway up the fairway from the ricochet.

hole 8) par bogie

hole 9) par and water shot to lose my last ball.

Gonna play my best ball and call myself 2 under

I'll just start out that I've played my best 9 holes ever!! While compared to a lot of you, nothing major but for me, this is a nice steady improvement. Played at the front 9 on the Bobby Jones course here in Atlanta with a couple of friends from work. There may have been some beers consumed during this time...

Fairways hit: 6/7 (best ever...finally getting used to my new to me driver)

GIR: 2/9 (nothing major but decent for me)

3 putts or more: only 1 (major improvement)

Parred 2 holes. A par 5 and followed up on a par 3. Came ever so close on the par 5 to getting a birdie...just missed the putt by about an inch but it left me with about 1 foot putt after that.

I have never broken a 100 on 18 holes but I love the way I started this...I can just feel my game coming together. Between me taking the game a lot more serious this year, lessons with the wife, hitting the driving range at least every other week plus playing waaaaay more than I did last year. It's just starting to pay off!! I can't wait to play again!!! Too bad it's going to 3 or 4 weeks before I can. Road trip to Canada to visit family and friends coming up but I do have another lesson this Saturday...can't wait!!

so my 2nd "round" of golf ever was a little more disappointing than the first. Despite sinking a solid par 3 on the 2nd hole, I was having a horrible time making good contact with the ball. my slice with the driver was as bad as it was the day I started, my irons (supposedly my strength) were frequently topping and mis-hitting all over the place. The only redeemable aspect of the evening was my short game. I bought a 56 degree wedge and got pretty good use out of it, setting me up for mostly 1 and 2 putts. I stopped playing after 6 holes (it was getting dark) ... (ok and i was frustrated) So I stopped keeping score at that point and practiced my approach from 50-75 yards. Shot a dismal 37 thru 6 holes on two par 4's and 4 par 3's.

Shot a +9 45 on the front :(

Upside:

No 3 putts, 1.78 putts avg

I doubled 3, 7 and 9 :( I doubled 9 from the fairway 130 yards out. Trying to shape a PW and probably got too fancy, hooked the ball into a bunker.

Still having some "issues" after committing to a swing change. Played nine holes this evening and shot 40, consisting of 8 scrambling pars and an abject quad -- which went block, shank, duff, skull (onto green), three putt. Talk about hitting for the cycle ...

Stretch.

Shot an 85 yesterday, then went to the store and bought an r11 3 wood, and went back and played 9 more holes. Only got to use the 3 wood on one hole but was impressed with it. I wanted to play a second full 18 holes but after 9 I was just beat.

Shot a 75 this morning which is a big improvement from an 84 earlier this week. But my round went south as the day wore on today. I birdied the first 2 holes but my iron play was ragged after that. Made a lot of good par saving putts, otherwise I would have been in the high 70's. Got to tighten up my short irons.

44 + 42 = 86  7150 yds. 72.7/137 course rating.  Missed 5 or 6 makable putts, but that's golf.  So so game.

An amazing 26 on the front 9.    To bad the rain forced me off after the 6th hole!

Just played in a medal at my club. Was all going very well for the first 5 holes, hit probably the best bunker shot I've ever struck on the 1st to get up and down for par, four holes later I'd only dropped 1 shot.

Stepped up to the 6th tee and hooked one into the trees. Went to look for it but couldn't find it so had to trudge back to the tee while the group behind had already played. Hooked another one but managed to find this one, a couple of shanks, a bunker and a tree later I walked off with a 10 and my card ruined.

Such a shame as well, I didn't let it get to me and had a tidy back 9 but the damage was well and truly done. Ended up with an 89 and I guess a handicap increase.
