41-37-78 2 Doubles (Bad) 2 Birdies (Good)

Hit the ball good except on two holes again.  One bad drive on 7 and one fat 7 iron into the water, makes two doubles on the front. Ugh!

First game of the year. Shot 112. For some reason everything off the tee was bad, like I couldn't swing comfortably, it was a miserable day though, rain and hard wind maybe ~20mph gusts but still.

43-38-81 1 double 1 birdie, didn't have my game at all yesterday.    Couldn't chip, couldn't putt, hit a couple good shots that turned out bad, ended up being long, and being that they just cut and rolled the greens that day, being long as @RandallT has mentioned before, is not the place to be at Springfield.

Great score! I've never played there - it looks long. I'll have to make it out there one of these days

86 at the Vineyard in Escondido. Damp, drizzly front nine then it cleared up somewhat. Blew some drives , chipping and putting was good

Played Boulder Creek Golf Club in Streetsboro OH today.  Was a little windy and really soggy.   But a really nice layout, will like to play it again when it's a little dryer.

41-43-84 at Meadowbrook in Gainesville Fl from the blues. A little better than my average round despite winds 15mph+ today. Scrambled well today after multiple tee shots were pull draws into the rough/trees. Finding my groove with my irons though which is really uplifting!

I had a hell of a time figuring something out at Myrtle Beach, but I said then that it was probably some little thing, and if I just got on video I'd see it and could sort it out… and that was accurate. I found a little thing with my right elbow and managed to play pretty well today, despite mis-hitting a driver on #3 a little. Straight, slight draws… in high winds and soft conditions.

36. 9 pars. Two (first and last) were scrambling pars. The greens were soft and slow though so you could just throw it almost all the way to the hole.

Use the PING Glide 2.0 wedges. Spun one back to the front of the green on #4. I forgot that they're much more aggressive with spin.

Not sure if this is allowed, but I played in a "best ball" scramble. First time for me, though I figure everyone on here knows the game.

Won 7 bucks, with our team shooting 9 under. Seemed like a good score considering it was pretty windy. My foot is still pretty messed up, lost a few balls w/driver, but overall played well and more importantly just had a blast!

Got out to play today which was a pleasant surprise. I play Broadlands a pretty decent course near my house. It's not in great shape yet but not terrible.  The greens are pretty shaggy I'm pretty sure they haven't been cut yet. I ended up shooting a 85 which I was very happy with. It was pretty windy and I'm still dialing in all the new sticks. I absolutely love my M1 3w. I hit it 3 times all off the deck and absolutely smashed it. It was a nice day to get out hopefully we will get some more decent weather it's pretty unpredictable this time of year.

48+45=93. Not great score, but 9/11 fairways and 5 GIRs. So how did i manage that? 40 putts and 2 balls in the hazard

el Alemán had a bad day and only beat me by two strokes (of course, he spots me 10 strokes at the start of the round

Played my first 18-hole round of the year in Spain about a week ago. Shot an 81 (38-43). Was actually going OK, before making back-to-back double bogeys on holes 16 and 17.

76-74 at my home course this weekend.

In the second round i hit 15 GIR. Missing 14, 16 and 17 greens by only 2..3 yards. Bad chipping and putting all weekend.

Need to get back on practice after my holidays.

Shot a new personal best 81 on Saturday at Airport golf Course in Columbus, OH. went 41-40, 1 double bogey, no birdies. got 11/18 GIR, two putted every single hole plus two 3 putts. Most of the GIR were 20+ feet away so nothing that I realistically would expect to make for birdie.

Drives and approach shots felt fantastic, some of the pins were tucked in corners so I played it smart/safe.

I had 225+ left to a par 5, normally would have hit a short 2nd shot then a full wedge, but based on the stats and numbers I've read throughout this site I knew the better play was to advance the ball as far as I could. I had been practice 3 wood off the turf at the driving range the past few weeks so I gave that a go, ended up pin high about 10 yards right of the green, chipped and two putted for my par. No complaints!

    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
    • At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.
    • That sounds like a small sample size issue. What if the PGA tour event he was trying to get into just happened to fit his game perfectly? Also, he could just be playing hot right now. I’ll put this in the wait-and-see category.
