69 today, finally got it going after playing my 3 worst rounds of the year the past couple weeks. Did not play spectacularly well on the front, three putted the first two greens, but birdied #9 to shoot 37. Finally got it going on the back and birdied 11, 12, 13, and 15 for 32. Had good looks at a couple more, that didn't fall. Overall, very happy with the round, especially the back.

Basket of 25 before a 9 hole run on an executive course.  Made a major step towards a goal of no sixes with only 3 of them an no 7s!  Made two greens off of tees on par threes with one 3 putt and one 4 putt. Yikes!!  Other par three was on free in 2 with a 3 putt.  Really nice looking lofts that ended up short and one drive out of bounds did not help. Still a 48 over all was good for today.

After shooting backs to back rounds of 97, I shot a 92 this morning....Had one hole with a 4 putt, and a couple of double bogeys that should have been bogeys, so I felt pretty good.  Hit the ball well, only lost 1 ball, so now my next goal is to break 90 next week....

  • 2 weeks later...

85 albeit from shorter tee - it's wet here in California so the ball is not rolling.   Nothing stood out, good or bad.   Just a routine round for a median score.

Perhaps the last round for me in 2018.  Short course 78 (66.9/120) was not good golf but any golf in December, in Michigan, is great.  After today's 50+ degrees, the extended forecast is cold and then colder.  Clubs are going back to the basement.

Shot 86 last week at Babe Zaharius.....just 2nd time on that track, and it is narrow, but makes you choose shots wisely.  Playing in a tournament there this coming weekend, so I'm looking forward to it.

18 holes final score 96, 5575 yards from forward tees.  3 par, 1 triple bogy, 9 bogies and 5 doubles.  Rating/slope  71.9/125 from forward tees. 32 putts, 1 GIR  5 FW no bunkers no penalties.  Many of my wedge shots fell short of targets .  Drives OK but none were bombs. Lightly overcast, slight breeze.

Played 9 holes, plus 4 extra. On the 9, I carded a 42 (+6). It was 6 bogies, and pars. Made a couple real nice putts for bogey 1s.

Course was pretty much empty, and folks I did see were friends.

Since my green fee was for 9, or 18 holes, I played 10, and 18 twice, while expirimenting with a few things.

I tried a 12* driver, and 4W today. These clubs are new to me.  Left my 3&5 woods in the truck. I hit the 4W ok, but the big, round headed driver was a bit cumbersome for me to swing. It really felt awkward when swinging with my normal speed. I am use to low profile, square woods. Need to work some more with that 12 degree club. Maybe have club pro shorten it a couple of inches.

Played 9 holes this afternoon. Carded a 39, which is my best 9 hole score for my 2018/2019 season. 6 pars, and 3 bogey 1s.

Got extremely lucky on a par 3, by banking a tee shot off a pine tree for a par. That hole could easily have been a 4, or a 5.

Also had 3, one putts for pars.

Shot 85 on Monday, but played better than that. We left the flagstick in (gettin a jump on 2019) on every shot until both of us missed two footers that bounced off. Removed the flag for the rest of the day on the short ones. Very wet greens threw me off too.

Played a course I found online that is nearby that I had never heard of in Ruskin, FL.  Shot pretty well considering I was playing it for the first time.  41/45....with 2 balls finding water that I couldn't see from the teebox.  I did hit 11 fairways, so that part of my game was pretty solid.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
