Earlier this summer, I shot my lowest round to date: an 82 on my home course. Today, I played River Bend Links in Robinsonville, MS. As the name implies, River Bend is a links style course. It has deep sand, water and is located near a group of casinos. The fairways are somewhat narrow, but hard. It is a par 72. I played the front nine at 5 over. I played the back nine at 4 over. Ten bogies, seven pars, one birdie and no doulble bogies! Never have I shot an 81 before today! If it had not been so damned hot ( 105 degrees when we teed off at 4:00p.m. ) and had I not been so tired and dehydrated at the end of the round, I would have been doing cartwheels all the way home!

43 in my league last night, playoffs...we lost. My partner shot 41, he's a 9 handicap...so we played decent but a 32 handicap dropped a 44 on us. 3 pars and birdie. Just killed us, nothing we could do.

Got off to a terrible start, 6 over after 4 holes then played the last 5 holes +1. Hit the last 4 greens in reg, 3 putted one of them though. :(

I shot a 1 over 32 last night in my league. I birdied 6, 7 and 8 after a shakey start. I played the last five hole 3 under and the last 7 2 under. I was giving my opponent 17 shots for 9 holes and he shot his best round ever. I still managed to beat him by 1 shot.

Shot a 99 on the Creek and Cherokee 9's at Big Canoe, GA on Tuesday. The course is short (2805 and 3022), but there is a TON of trouble to find - lots of hazards and you can lose a ball on any tee shot if you don't keep it in play. (68.6 / 134) Shot 47 on the Creek and 52 on Cherokee. 6 pars, 5 bogeys, 2 doubles, and 5 "others". Started the back nine with two snowmen, and then ran off a string of 4 pars and 1 bogey, then ruined the round with a 9 on 17 - two lost tee shots - 1 OB, 1 lateral hazard. 6 FW, 8 GIR, 38 putts. 8 PENALTY STROKES!!! I think I could score a lot better here by hitting 3 iron instead of driver on a lot of the short par 4's. Really fun course though - Highly recommended if any of you ever get an opportunity to play there.

Worst score of the year - an 88. In a high school match.

I'm so mad at myself for not being able to come through.. aerated greens don't help and downpouring rain doesn't either.

76 at Whispering Woods in a "traveling league." I think the next lowest handicap was a 13, but since it's a two-man handicap southern points event... my 76 didn't mean much. As a team we scored 66 points. Good enough for fourth. With that, skins (two gross, one net for me), and the left side beating the right side, I made off with $55 (gave $5 to my partner since traditionally teams split skins) for my $45 cost and got a steak dinner on top of that.

76 equated to a net 73, of course, since my course handicap is now only three there.

Bogeyed the first hole (was a good bogey actually), then hit the next eight greens in regulation and never made a birdie. Doubled 10 and bogeyed 11, then bogeyed 17, but otherwise hit all the greens on the back and only made one birdie putt.

Played awful with an 89. I finished the round off Triple, Triple, Quad. And started the round Double, Triple. I was having an alright day until all of those. Worst round of the year and i am definatly losing my chipping confidence. That cost me alot of strokes. Im so angry and emberassed.

I guess it was a day for worsts. I was 2 over on the front from the tips with 6 consecutive pars at the turn. On the back: One part, three doubles, and four bogeys for a 47. 85 is not bad, but, frustrating as all hell when I shot 38 on the front. Ever have that thought after a double or triple like "wow, I didnt shoot that high on the ENTIRE side of the card and I just did on one stupid hole."

37 at Meadowood, in Burlington. Pretty easy course and I burned it up, but I still play there occasionally since it's the first place I ever teed it up (sentimental values, I suppose). I was hitting driver, pitching wedge into most par 4's (and I was pitching the ball, not making a full shot). Par's 35, and I would've prolly had par if it weren't for the 9th hole...I drove over the green and next to the practice green, forcing me to make an awkward lob shot over the clubhouse...well, I hit it fat, the ball hit the roof and came back at me. Double bogey to end the round.

3/7 fairways (I hit the wrong fairway three times), 7/9 greens, 18 putts. No birdies. Ugh. If I could've putted worth a lick I would've really burned up the course.

Shot a 90 today-- Par 71. It's strange that about 2 months ago I would've been thrilled by this score, but after the round I felt disgusted. My last 3 rounds have been 90, 91, 90 at three different courses. This means I still haven't accomplished my goal of breaking 90, and I will likely get only 2 more rounds this summer, with one at a course where there is no chance of a score in the 80s . I had 1 tiple bogey, 6 doubles, and 6 pars. 29 putts saved me and chipping killed me. ZERO fairways and 2 GIR, but was very close many times on both. Two OB shots. Strange round.

83 (+11) today. 3 putting the first three holes, then missing a five footer to save par on the fourth can really take it out of you. But, my ball striking was superb today. Just excellent. The putting came around on the back, but I started to get tired (lol, I was getting hungry!)...Oh well, just another day and another 83 which is what I usually shoot at my home course, haha. Fun day, though.

39 on the front of Pioneer, par 34. My driving was outstanding - 280+ yards, down the middle of the fairway, and my misses weren't bad. Didn't have to use much ballstriking today, really, I'd reduced the place to a pitch and putt. Although I couldn't putt worth a lick. No birdies, although I did get up and down three times. I four-putted the sixth hole, a 300 yard par 4, after driving it close and pitching the ball to 10 feet. Ugh.

17 putts, 5/7 fairways, 4/9 greens.

VICTORRRRRYYYY!!!!! (thanks Drama)

Today I finally broke the 90 barrier. I thought about reopening the "Breaking 90" thread, but it seems pretty dormant so I'll post it here. I shot an 85 (par 72). I'm really pumped, but I guess the reason why myself and others can't get enough golf is because, "I coulda went lower". Anyhow no amazing shots worth mentioning, I just putted solidly, stayed around the fairway all day, and hit some greens (always staying really close on misses). Unfortunately the greens were like rocks so a lot of full shots, pitches, and chips that I thought were perfect did not hold the green. I will never complain about an 85 though.

Final stats: 30 putts, 3 fairways hit, 5 GIR, 3 up and downs, and ZERO OBs.... 2 double bogeys, 7 pars, everything else bogeys

    • I am a huge numbers guy and if a number can be applied to something, I want to know what it is.  Even in golf, I will pace off short chips as I have a 10 yard, 20 yard, and 30 yard shot whereas I take the club back a certain distance for each.  I have heard the comparison to basketball players that they do not know their exact distance to the basket, they just use their eye sight and adjust which I know a lot of golfers do as well when within a certain distance to the pin.  My question is, what is that distance for you?  I was at the range today and was hitting wayward  balls to a flag that I had no idea what it's exact distance was, I estimate that I was at times as close as 40 yards and as far away as 70 yards.  I was amazed at how accurate I was having not known the distance to the flag.  Temps me to not use my range finder within say 70 yards and go by look and feel.  What say you?
    • Well, it was yesterday but I shot an 88 at Lake Park GC in Lewisville, TX.
    • PXG Orlando, other locations I'm sure its the same, offers a full bag fitting for 25 bucks which is applied to purchase if you are a veteran or active duty, etc. Unfortunately I like my Titleist's.
    • Latest rumor is Clarkson, May and Hammond will have a new team on LIV.
    • That's not just sandbagging, that's cheating. Under Rule 3.3 for posting most likely scores, for example if there was a 2 foot putt for par, one can only take one extra stroke from what they lie, meaning par in that instance, not bogey. I didn't check the other instances but you can.
