What'd You Shoot Today?

Two rounds this weekend.  And like normally when I'm not playing often - both were a mix of REALLY good, and then just goofy mistakes and bad chipping/pitching.  But 4 birdies, countered by a crapload of lost ball penalties.

Both were in the mid to upper 80's - both had like 8-10 penalty strokes.  I'd just randomly peel off crappy drives - then followup with one right down the middle.  It's just a big tease somedays....

Matched up both days with very decent people.  On two courses that I very much like and both were in great condition.

I went out to practice last night, but forgot the range is closed Monday nights so I ended up playing 18.  I shot an 85, which I wasn't happy about, but they punched the greens a week ago and the greens are just a bunch of holes and a lot of sand.  Good news is halfway through the round it hit me what my instructor has been trying to get me to do with shifting my weight forward.  It's been tough as I have had 4 surgeries on my left knee and it has swollen a couple times trying to incorporate swing changes, but for some reason it just clicked last night, don't think I have ever had that good of contact before.

Played Scotch Pines in Payette, Idaho earlier today. (66K, 68/110) Shot an 85, with 34 putts. Pars, and bogie 1s. Missed a couple of makeable putts due to bad reads.  Not a bad effort, but certainly not one of my better rounds.

Going to blame it on body stiffness....lol. We putt 500 miles on the coach yesterday. We'll be in this area for a few days visiting relatives.

This Payette course was a new course for me to play. Pretty nice place. There are two more courses across the river in Oregon, which I will play as needed. They are not new to me. One is a converted farm pasture. Pretty sure I will play this Payette courses again before we depart.

Despite, or perhaps because I didn't play for a couple of months. my first time out today resulted in a good round.  The monsoon in India makes golf very difficult from end May onwards.

I played 16 holes today and had 5 pars and 11 bogeys.  Most of my bogeys were from 100 to 150 yards in.  A couple of shots landed up shorter than I expected and my short game was rusty at best.  Still, a couple of brilliant putts and only one lost ball in a par 5 water hazard.  Getting a bogey on that hole was satisfying.  Drop zone and a nice third shot got me close to the green.

Was out at Van Cortlandt golf course in NYC and was a quality (for me anyway) 42 on the front nine, only to throw away a couple holes with out of bounds shots on the back nine, finished that with a 45. An 87 overall on a par 70. 36 putts which is totally average, and only six greens in regulation. Need to work on not getting mentally tired on the back nine!

Played 4 balls on a par 32, 9 hole course at Neshanic Valley in NJ. It’s their academy course but it is in great shape for a 9 hole course. The par 4s are mostly a 3 wood off the tee but there is a hole or two where you can use the driver. There is one 175 yard par 3 where you have to carry a hazard. Shot a 37, 38, 38 and 39 with each ball. The 37 felt good, with a lot of decent wedge shots and I pared the par 6 holes.

Played that Scotch Pines course again this morning. The group I was with wanted to play from the tips. (70/116)

Carded an 81 which was a much better effort than a few days ago from the shorter tees. I played .500 golf, with 9 pars, and 9 bogey 1s. (31 putts)

Since we were playing from the tips, I figured I needed to swing a little faster than I usually do. By swinging a little faster, I also enlarged my landing areas a little, while still hitting away from those trouble areas.

Once on the greens, I focused more on speed than I normally do. I still gave my reads some concerns, but speed was more important today, because it made for easier second putts on unfamiliar greens. I was happy with the three one putts for par, while notI having any three putts today.

Since it's a holiday weekend, I am going to give my golf game a three day rest. I will still swing a club, or two every morning. Just going to avoid the anticipated weekend crowds.

90 today. A new low for me. One missed 3 footer or I'd have broken it. One birdie, three pars, nine bogeys and five doubles. Hit 12 of 14 fairways and 3 GIR. 7 one putts, 8 two putts and 3 three putts. Watch out 80s 'cause I'm gunnin' for ya!

Best round of the year yesterday at Shadowridge Golf Club in Carlsbad. Might have finally solved my swing issues with the driver.

39-37-76 No Sixes Round No doubles

2 birdies 6 bogeys and 10 pars

Only bad was 2 three putts for bogey.

Another decent round today at Shadowridge.  Didn’t hit the driver quite as good but good enough to shoot about the same score.

38-39-77 2 birdies 7 bogeys and 9 pars, only 1 3-putt but had a 6 on a par 5 today, ugh. Did play blue tees today.

Another great day in San Diego. 👍

Been a weird 3 days 😕

I had my best practice session ever on Friday night, I continued to work on the things I have been working on, as well as incorporating the feedback from @mvmac (thanks again!), and tried the drill that @Double_AA posted, I don't know if that drill is right or wrong, but that feel it gives along with the other pieces I'm working on seemed to put the final touch on my swing.

Was excited to get out Saturday, plan was to play 54.  Got to the range to loosen up, everything felt good like it did Friday night.

First Round:  Played with a group of about 20 guys for the first time where they pick teams, I crapped the bed, shot a 95.  Everything was off, got so frustrated thinking about how good my swing was the night before.

Second Round:  Ate lunch and relaxed a bit, went back to the range and everything was back to how it felt on Friday.  Shot a 83.

Third Round:  Started 15 minutes after finishing the second round, shot a 82.

Today (Sunday), warm up was great, and the round was even better, shot a 76.  1 Birdie, 13 Par's, 3 bogey's, and a double.  Dang 'No Sixes Challenge', the double came on a Par 4, so close...

Will keep grinding...

Yeah that drill may be dangerous if overdone lol but it’s helped me to get the feel of dropping the club down then releasing instead of just going from my backswing to trying to release at the ball. It’s also helped me to start my swing with my hips somewhat.

I shot 75 today. I played with a different group and they play a 5800 yard course. My normal group usually plays tees that are 6250 and I usually score around 83 to 85. As I close in on 70 years of age, I'm think maybe I should look at moving up. We have tees that are 6000 yards. I'll probably play those when cold weather returns in three or four months. Today was fun. It reminded me of how I played 25 years ago when I could still drive it out of my shadow.

So finished out this long weekend this morning playing with the group of guys I played with on Saturday.  Was nice to redeem myself, shot another 76 (37, 39), but the bad news, 2 sixes, dang it!

Still trying to break 80 this year and at least I am getting closer, but it's always 2-3 swings messing up my round.

42-42-84 with a double and triple (OB). 41-42-83 with three doubles and two three putts. I am not making any birdies, although I am getting opportunities. It will come.
