What'd You Shoot Today?

I shot a 44 on the bck 9 at Forest Creek yesterday.  Some temp greens so putting was almost impossible.  Had three three putts, 3 pars and 2 double bogies.  Didn't lose a ball but had 2 recovery shots.  Excited to get back out there and make a run at breaking 40 for 9.

Sincerely, Art

Last night's Thursday Twilight league at The Creek at Qualchan.  We were playing the back nine last night and it is rated as easier than the front but it doesn't set up well for me.  Last night I was thinking about it and I came to the conclusion it is due to a lot of dogleg right holes.  4 of the holes are dogleg right and my primary ball flight is right to left.  I have a hard time with alignment and have a difficult time aiming left.  Just a mind game.  Anyway,  I shot 40 for the 9 with 1 double bogey, 3 bogeys and a birdie.  They had just cut and rolled the greens so they were fast and the pin placements were on some extreme hills.  I three putted 3 times and had 19 putts.  FIR:  5/7, GIR 6/9.  (nGIR was 7/9).

37 best ball striking for me in three years. Seven straight pars, 3 putted for bogey on 8 and on 9 though nGIR it was the first time it wasn't close enough to putt and the pitch died running up a hill leaving a 10 foot or so putt and I missed it. On paper 5 GIR but 3 of the 4 missed were literally inches into the fringe. Hit every fairway and my drives were easily 30-40 yards longer than when I've been struggling, inside 50 yards on both par 5's with second shots. For the most part other than the final hole is was two shots to the green and two putts, the par 4 felt easy. And I did it on a course where I usually struggle. Was nice to hit 7i or shorter into greens.

Dave :-)

85 (42/43):  Some really good holes, some really bad holes. While this was easily one of the worst rounds for me in years with Driver & Fairways hit, I did have a personal best 3 birdies in a single round. So that was nice. This will be my last round for a few months so that was a good finish

Was a really up and down round today, but it's been like this the past 1 1/2 years...

I was +4 after the first 3 holes, then -1 for the next 6 (1 birdie, 5 pars) for a 39 on the front.

Then followed that up with being +8 for 10-14, and then had pars on 15-18 for a 44.

Finished with an 83.  I'm just consistently inconsistent!

You know you had a great round when the handicap computer questions you! Shot a 36 last night! 3 birdies 3 pars 3 bogeys. Best 9 ever! And backed it up with a 40 this morning. Hope this streak holds!

Wait , does that count as breaking 80? My goal for the year.

played A-Team Match Play today at Washington Golf & CC, not one of my most favorite courses.

Shot 38-38-76 (Par 70) 1 birdie, 1 double

Our team kicked butt at home and won 8.5-0.5, we lost on the road 6.5-2.5 so won the overall match 11-7.

The guys we played shot 5 under gross, we were three under.  Tied front, lost back 2 &1.

I didn't strike the ball well and my dreaded hook from my driver showed up on a few holes.. I still scored better than my average.   The bright spot...no 3 putts and 31 putts.

From the land of perpetual cloudiness.   I'm Denny

Played 27 holes yesterday, +6,+4,+2.

Played in the worst conditions i can remember and it didn´t rain. 0° C real feel, no roll fairways, 40 miles winds, and greens under maintenance (full of sand, stones and little holes). I only tryed to keep the ball in play (failed, 2 balls into water) and accept i would´t play as i usually do. Not good score, but a good practice under hard conditions.

41+ 43 on our usual par 68 muni. 4 pars, one double. One three putt. Felt pretty good. Haven't been feeling it the past 5 or 6 weeks. Good practice session on Friday, Really tried concentrating on set up.

For me, this game is one of repetition: doing the things that work, stopping doing things that don't work: but then falling back into those bad habits. Repeat.

50-X-X

Kittyhawk GC, Hawk Course, Dayton, OH

Hit the course for a solo round in a bad mood. A pop-up/pull off the first tee, three-putt bogey on No. 2 and a snap hook off the fence on No. 3, sent me over the edge.

After hacking and slashing thru the front nine, I retired the scorecard and focused on trying to hit the ball as far as I could. The results were pretty spectacular. A big drive on No. 12 resulted in my first-ever GIR on that particular hole. Pounded driver and 5W on par-5 No. 15 to hit my third from about 30 yards and nailed the flag stick on the 180-yard No. 17.

Silver lining aside, its been a while since I was that angry on the course. Amazing given the trip thru Shanksville earlier this year. I can't pitch, chip or putt when I'm that mad. Need to find a way to make the temper issues not become a bad trend.

An 80 the day after a Tough Mudder.  Not a very good round, really, for me at this course.  Strangely enough, my striking was pretty decent.  Short game seemed more affected by me being weary and my calves all tight and sore.

40 / 38 = 78 with 3 birdies and a whole bunch of bogies.  3 birds is a BIG deal for me. :-)

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
