At my local GC 72 par 5900yard course.. 40 front 42 back for a tidy 82 -2 under HC 1x Birdie 1x DB heaps of Bogeys and few pars

No part of my game was brilliant(esp driver woeful at times) but so much luck today and a few good shots many two punts some great PW chips.. worse hole my second last with a DB Gutted really had a chance to get another sub 80(and help push for Sub 10 HC) ... ended with another Bogey..... AARRGHHHH

Overall really enjoying my Golf on the course and know what I have to work on and what my issues are

Shot a 88 on Saturday from the whites on a 119 slope 6025 yard course with plenty of hills and trees. My driver game was way off for 75% of the day which is unusual, but at least I know the path to get down below 80 is to improve the longer clubs and putter now. Did have the wedges working, was able to put 50 and 100 yard shots close to the pin, and got the ball out of the two traps I hit into without risking destruction.

75  both Fri and Sat.  Made two bogies on the last 4 holes both days. Temps in the low 90's and I think I did not stay hydrated enough. I am still very pleased with my play lately.

83 yesterday. Not much to say about that round. Today was a 78. A tale of 2 sides. Front was a nice 1 over, 37. 2 birdies, 3 bogeys, and 4 pars. Started the back with a birdie, then not sure what happened, but finished with a 41 with 2 double bogeys.

80 on Friday at Willingers - started out pretty strong and then kind of lost my ability to hit a line.  Chipping was atrocious.  Fun day though.

92 yesterday.  Should have broke 90, but lost my focus a couple greens.  I typically mess up when I start trying too hard to make the perfect shot..  LOL  Driving is starting to be back on track,  was averaging about 230 yds.

Great weather and a good day out on the course.

45 for 9 last night. First time swinging a club since the end of last year. Surprisingly enough contact was solid for all but two shots. Let myself down a bit with around the green stuff because I had no touch. Tee shots were actually decent to good except for the first and last hole. There was a bit of wind out there and I wasn't sure what kind of spin would be on the ball from my swing so I aimed middle green. Most approaches were near greens in reg but due to aforementioned lack of touch I didn't give myself many chances to save par. Going into last night I was legitimately worried I'd actually swing and miss the ball so the overall solid striking was an amazing surprise.

Boop, the touch around the green always takes me the longest to get back, too!

Shot an 89 in an impromptu soggy round yesterday. New course for me...never played there. Weird round...6 doubles and 1 triple, but 6 pars and a birdie evened those out, so I shot exactly bogey golf.

48-43-91

Fantastic weather and beautiful conditions at Miami Shores in Troy, OH. They just opened the new clubhouse and had the course in as good a condition as I've ever seen it.

Still can't hit a driver at all, but the rest of it was half decent for the most part. Had one awful snowman after hooking into a tree and subsequent thrashing around or it would have been a 90-breaker.

Sadly, this 91 qualifies as my best round of the season, but you got to start somewhere. Hard to imagine the possibilities if I ever get that 1-wood figured out.

Shoot 82 today, my lowest score ever 😊 43 - 39

I've achieve a 2019 goal by doing that : play a nine under 40!

I'm also in a good path to achieve another goal to play more frequently under 90, this year first 6 rounds : 87-88-85-85-87-82

96 on the Avalon Golf Links - West/South course. 65.8/111. Hit some good drives and approach shots but chipping and putting suffered today. Nice fast greens - which I'm not used to. Beautiful weather and a nice course.

Zippo... so you zipped right past Shuksan, North Bellingham and Lake Padden to play Avalon?  And pulled up short of Eaglemont???  Phil will not like hearing this.  Beacon Batteries & Tires in Custer is where my son buys his truck tires.

Today was pretty fun. Not my best round of the year but I played a competitive round against a friend. $1 a hole. $5 a side and $5 overall. I won the front 40-49. Took the back 43-44 so obviously the 83 wins overall. Won $20. The hilight of my day is the 5th. It’s 312 and it does play downhill. So I’ve gotten driver within 20-30 yards before. This year I got fitted for a g400 and have increased my driving distance significantly. I actually flew one onto the green at the 5th today. My ball mark was a dollar bill length from the hole. It settled down about 10 ft from the hole. I was tentative with the eagle since he was down for 4 already and made the birdie.

I didn’t hit a lot of greens today but I scrambled well. Made a bunch of those putts from that range you will make some and miss some. Coming off a 10 fairway and 9 GIR 77 Sunday to today’s 83 I actually felt better about my round today with the pressure of a little friendly competition.

Yea can’t say enough for how much a good fitting can do for your game. I’ll never just pick up and buy off the shelf again. I had my old Nike SQ forever and finally got sick of losing balls all over the place. Now I’m longer, and more importantly consistent off the tee. If I miss it’s typically a right miss. I might miss Left once a round. With the old driver I was all over the place. Going to get set up with the 3 wood here in next couple weeks. Taking a 401k loan for the wedding this year. May as well drop a couple hundred on a 3 wood too!

Played my old course today that I grew up on. Moved away after high school 22 years ago and try and get back at least once a year. It’s nothing special but it is where I started.

42 on the front. A pair of doubles and a pair of 3 putt GIR bogeys and I was +7 for the front. Played much better on the back with a 38. Drove the green at 12 and missed an eagle I felt like I should have had. Only hit 6 GIR but scrambled well with 6 up and downs for par. Overall +9 80 for the day. Certainly could have been a 75 but not disappointed.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
