What'd You Shoot Today?

First time playing 36 in a day yesterday. Played with my nephew up at Chapel Hill and shot 92 and 94. Seem to have straightened driver back out for the most part. Found I was getting far too steep in my take away and really coming OTT. First round I had 4 birdie opportunities and only made 1, second round had 3 birdie chances and made 1. I simply didn't start the ball on the right line in putting and I paid for it.

Heading out to Zanesville today to play Eagle Sticks and then The Virtues Sunday. May try to play another 18 at Jaycee golf club or Green Valley depending on pace of play at Eagle Sticks if we get out of there at a reasonable time. Never played any of these courses but have heard great things about them. I'm taking half a truck load of golf balls for Virtues at the recommendation from a friend.

Shot an 85 at Rolling Acres. Played from the tips which was about 6700 yards.

This coulda shoulda woulda been a round in the 70’s had the putter showed up. 38 putts total.

Driving was incredible. Iron play was decent. Short game had some let downs but was still reasonably good. And as previously mentioned, putting was atrocious.

I shot 14 today.

That's two under… for the four holes I played. It included a… flat 291-yard 3-wood.

Didn’t really keep score on the front (mainly because I didn’t play the entire front nine, skipping holes 4 and 5 to join my teammates), but I shot 45 on the back with a triple on 18. Grand total of five pars today.

Watched my two buddies, Jake and Brycen, play a heck of a match. Jake was up three at the turn, but Brycen eagled the tenth and parred eleven to close the gap to one. Not many holes were halved, and Jake won 3&1 after going dormie and Brycen conceding the seventeenth after a horrific tee shot. Great day of golf today.

86 at Pompano Beach Municipal's Pines course.  It was all about the approach shots.  Love this course.  I always seem to play well there.  It has interesting holes and tiered greens.  That said, my swing is in such a bad place.  I have regressed, and I do not know why.  I was just applying the duct tape well today.

Yesterday I only got 14 holes in before the horn sounded for lightning. 48 on the front 23 through the first 5 holes of the back nine. Was really upset because my striking was coming around on the back.

Today I played the shorter of the two tracks at my club, at only 5400 yards from the back tees. 5 over 40 on the front, 1 over 37 on the back for a cool 77, one off my best for this course. Almost got to play it again, as I had 3 friends that showed up with a tee time just as I was finishing. Unfortunately the single that was signed up for the last slot showed up right as I was about to hit my tee shot. I bowed out, which may be a good thing for not wearing myself out. The only thing I was really mad about was that I had just reapplied sunscreen, so now I'm a greasy mess lol.

Shot a record (for me) 78 yesterday morning. Yankee Trace near Dayton, OH. Not a super easy course.

Funny thing is...I don't feel like I struck the ball particularly well. But, only one penalty stroke, and I managed to stay out of trouble and get up and down a lot.

Had a great weekend of golf with my nephew. Started with my last post in this thread where we played 36 holes at Chapel Hill on Friday where I went 92 & 94.

Played Eagle Sticks in Zanesville Saturday and shot a 90 from the blues. We had about an hour rain delay while it dumped about 2 or more inches of rain. We fought through the final 6 holes to finish the round. Would have liked to hit another 18 somewhere but after the rain, decided to head to the hotel and dry out our gear for Sunday.

Sunday we played The Virtues in Nashport, near Dresden, which is also known as the "Old Longaberger course." Ended up going from the whites and shot an even 100 here as it seemed like it was my first time putting. The greens were lightning fast and I had a really tough time reading a few of them. This course layout is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend it if you are in Ohio for any reason. It is Ohio's #1 rated public course and I think it is currently #64 on the top 100 public courses in the United States. Although, I'm not sure I would have paid the $100 green fee to play on the weekend had it not been included in our package. I believe it is $80 during the week but we talked to a guy on the range that said he finds deals on golf now during the week for $50.

Would definitely do this stay and play package again and thankful for the time with my nephew.

Played at a new course to me Friday morning and went 36-39 for a 75. Hit the ball really well off the tee and on approach shots, hitting 14 GIR, gaining +0.54 strokes off the tee and +0.65 strokes on approach shots compared to a scratch golfer

Putting was both really good and really bad. I'm getting more comfortable reading the greens with Aimpoint, and I made 3 birdies on putts outside 15 feet including a 35-40 footer which I read as a "3" and my aimpoint was a good 3-4 feet out to the left.

Now onto the bad, I missed a 4.5 footer for a birdie, aim was left edge and I pulled it left, just a really poor stroke, and I three putted 4 times. My speed control has been really solid all year, these greens were just much faster than what I am used to, and the ones on the course were much faster than the practice green. Not too worried about the speed control, but will be spending a bit more time on putts inside 6ft in my practice this week, as I had been learning and practicing Aimpoint I had kinda neglected the 3-5 footers and it definitely showed on Friday.

Still pretty happy with a 75 though with that many 3 putts, swing has been feeling great, over my last 5 rounds I am averaging 69% GIR.

That's great to hear. I've been thinking about going out there and playing it on my birthday this year in October. Definitely will be giving it a shot now.

Broke 90 for the first time from the tips yesterday with an 89 (course rating 72.5/slope 128/6960 yards).  42 on the front and 47 on the back, was kicking myself a little bit because my putting started out quite slow with a 4 putt on number 1, ended up with five 3 putts and the one 4 putt.  I actually felt pretty good about the 47 on the back, the back 9 at this course has 6 of the 9 single digit handicap holes (including handicaps 1 thru 4), I've shot between 40-42 plenty of times on the front (when just playing 9) the few times I've played the back here have not been pretty.  Overall I'm happy with my striking; my chipping and putting are still where I lose most of my strokes.

on my continued quest to break 70 for the first time...  after a kick in birdie on 13, i was three under par and then promptly made bogey on 14,15 and 16 to shoot even par 72.  Can't call it anything but a choke job...again.   😥

Shot a 92 today with 38 putts, 2OB, and 3 Water Hazards. Bummed my swing wasn't where I want it, or my putting. But also happy with how I grinded away and treated every hole individually, for the most part.

Shot a 44 last night on a local par 35, parred a couple, doubled a couple, bogied the rest.

Missed two 4 footers on 8 and 9. Was a club long on three different approach shots. Good strikes but very long first putts

But thats always the goal...bogie. Constantly working on reducing doubles and triples.

70, on a 69.5/120 course, but it was windy and I didn't worry about putting too much. I birdied the "par five" 9th and 18th holes… into which I hit a pitching wedge and a 7I. (To be fair the 440-yard 10th required a good driver and a good 4I). It was windy, as I said. 🙂

    • It’s simple. Hook it onto the tee box of the adjacent hole. Get a GIR with your approach. Birdie hole. #5 Hook it to the adjacent fairway Hit green with next shot. Birdie hole. I call it the Bill Method.
    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
