I'm in the same boat but fan a different team - you can guess which one.

KU went winless this fall:cry:good luck recruiting next year.  They fired the only recent coach that took them close to a championship a few years back.  It's so bad that when the royals won the World Series they tore the goal post down just to have something to celebrate I geuss lol.  I think the only reason they keep a Football program is to stay in the Big 12.

Born and raised in KY.  BUT, love my Dukies !!!!  Have been a Duke fan since 6th grade.  1978.  Probably the only person to ever live in KY that pulls for Duke.  Live at Hilton Head,SC and get to game at Cameron at least once a year.  Granted, this is gonna be a long season, but will never jump ship.  Just keep remembering last year !!!!!

Things got interesting, Kentucky didn't take UCLA seriously and paid the price for it.  I thought that was very interesting because UCLA only beat us by 2 points a few weeks ago and then proceeded to get spanked by Kansas.  I often wonder if they should even rank basketball teams until right around the time you enter conference play, maybe a week or two before because anything can and usually does happen in the first month of college basketball.

We play 15th ranked Oregon tonight, hoping for a win, still mad at them for knocking us out of the sweet 16 in 2007 (I was there for that game, traveled from Chicago to St. Louis to watch).

I love it.  We beat #13 Indiana, Lost to a UCLA team by two points that just stunned #1 KY, and then beat #15 Oregon to have a 7-1 record yet somehow we didn't crack the top 25.  Meanwhile #20 Gonzaga and #21 Vanderbilt both have two losses.  I don't know who they are too and who they have beat but I would have thought at a minimum we would have cracked the top 25 in this poll.

it's early - the results in Feb/Mar matter more than today.  Tell your Gators to just keep earning it.

I'm an ISU fan, but I don't think we've earned what I see until we play a couple strong teams, UNI and Cinc seem to be the only pre-conference opportunities coming up.  (now once in conference play, then it's a freakin' bloodbath in the Big 12 - so lots of fun)

True, two of UNLV's wins were against division II teams but the fact that we beat two ranked teams irks me.  Our next real test will be against Arizona in Tucson on 12/19.  If we beat them we cannot be denied a top 25 spot, however if we lose to them we will not even be on the radar.  Fresno State who is in our conference plays them on Wednesday so I may watch that game to see how it goes down.  It is so unusual to see SD State with 4 losses this early in our conference even though conference play has not started yet.

We didn't get a national ranking yet and I was not happy about that but let us see what happens tonight..  We travel to Wichita to play in Koch Arena against the Wichita State Shockers.  The last time we were there we were fresh off of a 10 point victory over then #1 ranked North Carolina and I vividly remember the Shockers stomping us but good, they rained down 3 point shots like there was no tomorrow.  They were preseason top 10 in the polls at the beginning of this season but  have been plagued by injuries.  They have just gotten one of their star players back and also another solid contributer and are gaining momentum, not to mention they have not lost at home in 34 games.

I would like to think UNLV is going to roll this team considering the injuries to Wichita, our defense, the height advantage we should have and how well they are playing this year but that is plainly not going to be the case.  There are four states that you just don't want to travel too and play in: North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, and Kansas. Koch arena is in Kansas, filled to the brim with very avid fans and coached by a veteran who has vaulted this program in his 9 year tenure.  Many respectable schools bring a good program into Kansas and leave with a loss and a reminder of why you don't schedule non conference games in Kansas, even against Wichita State.  A win here should put us in the top 25 but time will tell.

Simultaneously will be our next big opponent in Arizona, also playing at 9ET tonight.  Will have to just follow the highlights of that game.

How about everyone else?  Any big tests tonight or this week?

Hard loss for UNLV but WSU is much better that their record shows and they played them pretty tuff.  They basically returned the same team that they had when they knocked KU out of the tournament last year.  They had suffered a lot of key injuries at the beginning of the season but with the return of Vanfleet last week and Francamp making his first start you guys caught them at a bad time.  Had they played last week UNLV would have probably walked away with an easy win but at this point I don't see WSU losing very many more games this season.

I absolutely agree, with them basically healthy and the redshirt becoming eligible, they floored a top ten team (how they got their preseason ranking).  I was not pleased at all with UNLVs offensive play, nor with getting beat on the boards when we had a height advantage.  Credit WSU's defense.  Even though, we found a way to keep fighting and stay in the game, I was happy with that.  UNLV lost the game plain and simple, to a very good team.  No excuses.  I still was not happy with the officiating.  It seemed like we couldn't even breathe near their players yet WSU had the advantage of a lot of non calls including travelling and pushing off calls.  I thought the officiating was poor at best and that the refs did their part to make sure a very good team with a bad record got a signature win.  Let me emphasis I am not saying officiating was the reason we lost, but they sure as hell didn't help, or even be objective.

I still think UNLV has a top 25 team and we will see how we bounce back with games against ASU and Arizona coming up.

I wasn't able to watch it as it wasn't televised on my carrier so I can neither confirm or deny bad officiating.  I looked for it because I liked watching that dorky looking kid Connor Frankamp play at KU and I wished they would have given him more play time.  From the post game press conference it sounded like they were just happy to get out with a win.

We blew a 14 point halftime lead at home last night against ASU. Up next is Arizona in Arizona on Saturday, not liking our chances after last nights performance.  I have not jumped on the bandwagon of the Coach Dave Rice haters but I don't think he is a very good head coach, he keeps blowing big halftime leads and ending up in grudge battles that come down to the wire, he doesn't know how to adjust at the half and UNLV has not been able to score against a zone defense in his entire tenure at UNLV.  Losing the game to UNLV? No problem, switch to zone defense and watch them throw up messy 3 pointers even though they have two big men, one of which is a 7 footer.

It sounds like I missed the game of the year the other night KU vs OU.  I saw the score at half time but I was worn out so I decided to go to bed. Did anyone else catch it?

I did, was one of the best college basketball games I have seen in ages.  Epic battle, triple overtime, just great basketball all in all.  Wish UNLV still had Lon Kruger.  The nice thing is we will get to see them play at least once more this year as it was a conference game so OU will have a chance to avenge the loss and it looks like if both teams stay healthy they will probably meet in the conference championship.

I am utterly shocked that my Buckeyes took out Kentucky and is now on a 7 game winning streak. They looked like garbage early.

Rumor is that UNLV fired head coach Dave Rice today. ESPN and a few other sites reporting but still unconfirmed by university.  Sadly I think this is the correct action.

It's always good to beat Kentucky and congrats to Isu for knocking us down a couple more pegs the other night.  The big 12 really is to close to call this year lets hope it translates well to March madness.  Then maybe I won't look like such a sap for picking it so heavy in my bracket again.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
