Very disappointed in both outcomes last night.  Conor bit off more than he could chew.  I think 155 would be too much for him also.  He's a featherweight, bottom line.  Dos Anjos destroyed Diaz and I'm pretty sure he'd have done the same to MacGregor.

Agreed, that was too much weight to be moving up.

Both were great fights where the better fighter won.  Holm fought like a champion that was afraid to lose and I believe Conor underestimated Nate.

Holm's weakness was exposed, she can't push a fight, if she doesn't have an opponent that will charge her so she can counter punch she's just not that great a fighter.  Though he wrestling was much better than I expected (until the 5th round).

Conor is used to fighting guys that he has significant reach and weight advantage over, Nate was longer and bigger. Punches that will knock out a 155 lb guy aren't going to knock out a 170+ lb guy.  The Diaz brothers are known for taking punishment and people highly under estimate their BJJ or even forget they know it because they like to box.

I thought the outcomes were great, Conor goes back to 155 and waits for Dos Anjos and Rousey vs Tate 3 will be huge and whoever wins will fight Holm again.  Dana is crying all the way to the bank.

A fairly good comparison to McGregor considering the similar confidence and similar demise. :P (warning: language!!!)

I watched the post fight press conference, Conor was humble and sincere. He didn't offer any lame excuses or take anything away from Nate.  He's good for the sport, knows how to promote a fight but is a decent guy afterwards.

Holly knew she had it won, until she lost. That was also her problem. She can easily win fights just by out pointing with her striking, she just has to make sure she gets her ground game good enough to be able to get up when she inevitably gets taken down. She did excellent stuffing most of the take down attempts but both times she did get taken down Tate was able to easily transition to a dominant position and start working on submissions. As for Conor and the 155/170 comment. He needs to go back down to 145 *that's the weight he has the belt at* and defend at least once. Diaz is a 155 fighter, and while he's tougher than a lot of fighters he's not near the strongest striker but was still able to out strike McGregor. I doubt that Conor would do any better against Dos Anjos. I do, however, think that he may have been able to have better success if he had fought Cerrone. I think McGregor could have some success at 155 but he'd never be a dominant fighter like he was at 145, and he should drop any idea of going to 170 because Lawler and company would just massacre him.

I have a different perspective here also. McGregor was quoted as saying "weight doesn't matter" "my opponent doesn't matter I train to fight anyone" etc... Then he started saying he lost to a "bigger man".... He never once admitted that Diaz was the better fighter that night, just that he "used his energy better". The truth of the matter is he over estimated his ability to put anyone away with his "touch of death" left hand. He went in there trying to prove that he can knock out bigger fighters and found he was sorely mistaken. I do agree that he's been humbled, and I think it's a good thing. I've never liked his style of promoting fights either. He's very disrespectful during the promotion and every other comment is about how much money he has. You could tell that he was having trouble when he started doing the promotional stuff with Diaz, though, because his usual shtick didn't work. Once he realized he wasn't able to play mind games with Nate he seemed thrown off his game a bit. Also, him punching Nate's fist at the prefight presser was just ridiculously lame. That being said, he is typically a much more respectful person immediately after the fight.

As for Nate, I've never really been a fan of either of the Diaz brothers but I am a fan of their fights. I literally laughed out loud when he hit Conor with that first stockton slap. Then he did it more times.

This was the first PPV I've ever purchased for the UFC and I must say, it was worth the money. I watched every Prelim, both on Fightpass and FS1 also.
