I finally broke 80! http://www.gamegolf.com/player/billchao/round/3039116

Broke 80!!!   Bluff Creek Golf Course shot a double bogey free, 8 par, 2 birdie 78!!  par 72 - 72.00/126

I (very unexpectedly) broke 80 about two weeks ago!

This has been a long time coming.  I shot 85 yesterday, breaking 90 for the first time.  Southwinds is a short, technical, par 70 with narrow fairways, nearly acute doglegs, lateral water, and a couple of driveable par 4s.  I actually shot 89 there in the past and refused to call it breaking 90.

Tee shots were good, approach shots actually were not great (5 GIR), chipping was kinda meh, putting was very good.

Well done!

Just got my first ever eagle! Par 5 at the trails of Frisco golf course!! Long straight drive, 205 left to the green and somehow my hybrid 4 iron rolls right up there, leaving a 15 footer downhill that somehow drops for the three! Coolest part...my dad was there to see the whole thing unfold.

I broke 100 today!  Returning to the game after 30+ years.  3 lessons so far.  Shot 97 this morning before it became unbearable in South Texas at Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels, TX.  Kept in in the fairway more times than not and would have done better if I could eliminated my 3 putts.  Yay me!

I was going to add the other 3.5 holes I filmed during my round for my NC application vlog and make a vlog for the Vlogging badge, but then I realized it falls short of the 7 hole minimum requirement. Oh well.

The reason I'm posting here is I'd like to claim the TST Outing Organizer badge for organizing the NE Staff Outing the last two years. That qualifies right? 😃

Shot an 88 on Bethpage Green but first and last holes converted to par 3s although the 18th was a borderline par 4. So not sure which one it qualifies for, breaking 100 or 90, but I'll take whichever, to be honest, I'm just glad to be able to finish 18.

I finally broke 100! I've been taking lessons and hitting the range, but due to a few minor injuries and weather and life, haven't had a chance to play all summer until this past week, and I shot a 94 at the Keystone River course in Colorado, 47 on front and back.  The interesting thing was I only made one par and no birdies (not even a shot at one), and was pushing almost all my shots right, but I also only made one triple, it was just a bunch of bogeys and a few doubles. A few more pars or single bogeys and I could have broken 90.

I turned around and shot a 119 yesterday on an "easy" but also very wet muni course here in Chicago with a bunch of horrible skulled/chunked chips and 4-putts, despite finding my draw (and hook) again and mostly hitting the ball better, so it's not all puppies and sunshine.

Congrats! Because you said it was a borderline par four, I'm calling it an 89 for a broke 90. 🙂

Shot a 78 at Pine Lakes GC in Hubbard, OH on Thursday. Best round I've had in about 2 years! So, I'm claiming the 'Broke 80" badge.

Uhm, you've had the "Broke 80" badge since February, 2017.

I shot 33 on my local par 29 9-hole course. Including a birdie plus my longest drive ever on one of the 2 par 4 holes.

Just a practice round, but man did it feel good.

  • Various Challenges

@iacas I broke par on the Scarlet Course (68 on the par 70) at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC during a charity Pro-Am.

I got under par with an eagle on the 16th hole (a short Par 5). I won a charity tournament there with my partner, John Ashton (played Sgt. Taggart in Beverly Hills Cop). Funny dude.

Also (not on the same day) I aced the 12th hole at the Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes (The Tiger Trap hole from the Buick commercials).

I thinks that puts me at Broke Par, Eagle, Hole-In-One, and Tournament Winner.

My next goal will be LSW. I meant what I said when I told you that I respect your place in the game. We are all here to learn. No hard feelings...

Dave

    • Today I left home at 3:30 drove 20 minutes each way to the course, paid, putted for a few minutes while someone else finished the first hole (par 3), played 9 holes with a little bit of waiting on the 2nd and 8th holes and made it home by 6:00.  That was a decent pace of play day. And even then I worried that the single bend us was going to catch us and think we were playing too slow. I think he skipped the last 2 holes because I never saw him tee off on #8 while we teed off on #9.
    • When I was much younger golf was something to do when we were drinking.  Now that I am a little more mature I almost never drink when I golf. Probably because I play with my son more than anyone else. My son was our designated driver after a recent day trip with a couple friends.  Even then we didn't drink until the 19th hole.  Tomorrow we are playing in a charity scramble, so there is a chance I will have a couple beers during that round.
    • Today's finishing hole requires that most average golfers layup due to water beginning at 200 yards and requiring a 260 carry to clear it. The last time I played I hit a 4H into the water since fairways are dry and rolling. Today I hit a 6 iron pure and it stopped about 3 feet short of the water. That is as good a 6 that I can hit. And then I had 130 to the pin and hit an A-wedge to 3 feet. So after 2 consecutive best shots ever, I missed the birdie putt for the worst shot ever. I did however play the last 5 holes in 1 over after playing the first 4 in 10 over par (guessing as I quit counting on 1 hole).
    • Day 22: Note: Reverted back to day 22 because I forgot to post yesterday, so my current streak is 22 of 24 days. Woke up with a sore neck, which hasn't gone away yet, so not feeling like doing full swing practice. Did COVID-19 day 6 and 7 drills, and a little backswing practice using LVP camera.
    • Thanks for the outstanding week!! Absolute dream golf trip.
