He is squatting 265 for reps, and he is going down far enough, pretty admirable for a guy his size, but I hope he doesn't end up with unrelated back injuries as a result.....

Someone take a video of McIlroy working out next to an NFL tight end or a QB or just next to a guy, same height more muscle mass.

When I saw this thread, I tried to find a relevant Rip quote for someone to throw at Chamblee.  Best I can do.  The first one has been slightly edited from its original form for this forum.

"Yes, if you squat wrong it [redacted] things up. If you squat correctly, those same [redacted]-up things will un[redacted] themselves."

"There is never an absolute answer to everything, except of course that you have to do your squats."

Maybe. Rory is ripped but he is tiny. He was about 5 feet from me at the 2014 BMW I felt like a giant standing next to him. Unfortunately I didn't feel small next to Kevin Stadler. TV makes everyone look bigger than they are. Even Phil looked like a rail in person.

You're right. He's listed as 5'9, 162 lbs (although not sure of accuracy - could be old data). Amazing how speed does so much more than weight in this game.

Phil is listed at 6'2, 200 lbs.

I'd still bet it's Kg though. Rory might be on the small side, but I'm sure he's very strong.

That's not what I would consider very strong. All relative to size but it's not like he is doing Bruce Lee amazing feats. Athletic for a golfer is on the low end of impressive. The stud kids were doing that in 9th grade when I was in school. Rory is just a couple years removed from his dough boy look.

265 is not that much. When I was his age I was 5'10, 175 and I could squat that much and did. I'm sure he is working with good trainers that emphasis proper technique and program. I'm older now and still do squats, but with less weight and more reps. That is probably in his routine as well.

Or it could be Rory is getting Chamblee'd, just like Woods did, to get eyeballs. Nitpick on something that will get people riled up. People tune in. Well played, Chamblee, well played.

Maybe half a foot shorter ;-)

A very good possibility. So is Chamblee'd Chamblee's personal form of trolling.

Really, I thought if he weighted 50 lbs more he would hit it another 60 yards ;-)

It's in kg. He posted on twitter. Something like 265 lbs squatting. He's claiming 165 lbs on twitter being his weight.

This shouldn't surprise anyone when you consider Chamblee's past statements:

When I brush my teeth, I think of Tiger Woods.

When yelling at my kids, I think of Tiger Woods.

When making love to my wife, I think of Tiger Woods.

And so on, and so forth...

Rory was pretty tiny, I saw him at the same tournament.  But damn he did have swagger that made him much larger than his frame.

There's no question that weight training can help prevent injury, etc. and I'm sure Tiger has the best trainers. But for a while, it definitely looked like he overdid it and was more focused on how he looked than on preventing injury. I have no idea if this contributed to his injuries.

Really?  I thought it was that Elin had him wearing tighter shirts.  The notion that he was working our because he was focused on how he looked is really quit laughable, IMO.

As to the rest, unless you've been in there watching and monitoring his training I do not see how you can say it "looked like he overdid it".

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I think the total weight is about... 10kg + 15kg +25kg on each side so times two plus 20kg bar =120 kg = 265 lbs

Its a lot when you are doing good reps, like Rory is doing. Most guys throw on excessive weight and have about a 12 inch range of motion. He is plenty strong enough now, he doesn't need to keep throwing on more weight.

I don't know why he's getting a bad rap from whomever for working out. The guy drives it so long and accurately. Whatever he's doing, he's doing something right.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
