What is the proper angle to have between your left arm and your chest? I feel that I am getting my arm to close to my chest in the back swing to where my left arm is almost touching my chest at A4, what I would say is about a 35 to 40 degree angle. I know that this is to much angle and I need to work to create some separation between my left arm and chest. After some practice increasing the distance between arm and chest I have found some improvement in my swing. My question is is there a sweet spot or ideal angle to keep between the arm and chest at A4, possibly like a tour average or something, because I know that there will be great variation based on the individual. Thank you for your thoughts.

I don't know if there is an exact angle you want to aim for, but as long as your right elbow isn't getting behind your shirt seam and you're not folding it past 90°, you're probably fine.

Chances are if your left arm is getting too tight on your chest, you're doing one or both of these things.

Not sure about the exact angles but if you have a flat shoulder turn (more probable) or no turn your left arm will try to wrap around your chest. Anyway some pictures, videos would help to really see if that is happening.

speaking for myself. I like to feel like my arm 'release" with the swing. Sometimes I get to tight over the left armpit and that prevents proper release for me.

What I try to do is to get good posture. stretch out the muscles over the anterior pec and tighten my muscles near my shoulder blade and triceps.

I believe one of the common pressure points is maintaining left arm contact on the left pectoral during the backswing. If it shifts away then you can send the hands out away from you and that can cause issues.

If you could post a video of your swing from DTL, camera placed so its looking down your toe-line positioned about waist high, so we can see exactly what you are talking about.

@saevel25 I really like your thoughts on the pressure point between the left arm and left peck. For clarification, I am to keep pressure on this point throughout the back swing? If I am loosing pressure there does that mean I am getting my arm to close to my chest? I will try and get a video up sometime this weekend and let you know when I do. Once again thank you to everyone for your feedback it is always appreciated.
