wait.....the british feed had Protracer????????  WTF Murica????

I was wondering about this. If The Masters doesn't allow those Protracer devices to be setup, how is Sky Sports (It's Sky Sports, not The BBC, right?) able to do Protracer? Maybe it was allowing Protracer for the website tracker page.

Was there an ESPN feed available on the weekend?

Playing the whole tournament without a double and the final round bogey-free is nothing short of astounding, especially given the playing conditions this week-end.

Willett flat out played the back 9 better than anyone in contention, particularly Amen Corner. But even there he was a few inches from rinsing and taking a likely double. Skill, good decisions, plus a little luck and it's your day.

I would counter that sentiment with this:

More people are talking about golf today than last year.  People love watching drama and Jordan's collapse was gut wrenching.  It will add interest to the sport, especially if he wins the US Open.

You're wrong! After watching an American player stumble a bit after holding a lead and hand it to a Brit, no American will ever play golf again. The sport is dead to us now! Mitch & Murray say no coffee for Jordan Spieth!

Most real golf fans don't have this prick attitude.

Most real fans don't have what attitude?  Please elaborate.

Yep Sky Sports and we had protracer on several holes. Also had some nifty 3D graphics of the holes in virtual space floating in front of the presenters which was cool to see the elevation changes which was new. The one I liked most was what they called 'Sky360' of players swings where the player just kind of appeared next to the presenter as if they were standing in the studio and they could see his swing from different angles, just looked like the golfer was there. Butch Harmon did analysis on several swings using this. Was pretty cool.

Any video of this?

Augusta and CBC have a contract which gives complete control of the coverage to the ANGC. They are very strict about what they will allow. They would be more liberal with the international rights.

I agree there was drama, and that's good in terms of watching golf as entertainment.

I don't buy this idea of a Spieth "collapse" with some people comparing it to Greg Norman in 1996.

In 1996:

Faldo started his final round at -7 and finished at -12

Norman started his final round at -12 and finished at -7

In 2016:

Willett started his final round at E and finished at -5

Spieth started his final round at -3 and finished at -2

Spieth just had bad three holes mid-round, and then he made headway to recover from that position. It wasn't a consistent collapse.

Losing 6 strokes in 3 holes is a HUGE COLLAPSE.   Jordan even said it himself...

It's hard to pin down...but watching Norman in 1996, it seemed different.

I wanted Willett to win, but I was convinced it was heading for a play-off. Spieth looked pretty determined on the 16th.

If he just bogeyed 6 holes I would agree.  Making a quad is a collapse. Rushing your second shot and chunking it is a collapse.  He completely lost his control on that drop.  He was twirling the club, pacing, fidgeting, he had lost his mental game completely.  That is the sure fire sign of a collapse.

Small correction: Norman was -13.

Jordan collapsed. It just happened more suddenly than in 1996.

A couple of points:

  1. Just like learning to spell "Spieth", we all must remember Willett has 2 "t"s.
  2. Our Euro and world forum members should not be really surprised that a lot of casual US golf fans did not really know much about Willett. He has won before but this is more recent and in events that don't get as much air play as the PGA Tour. Much like no one really knew about Spieth before he started winning on the PGA Tour. So it is really not a slight to the UK that he is not well know. It is more to do with exposure. Of course that has ended now. :-)

Norman's 1996 reminds me of Hemingway's quote,

“How did you go bankrupt?"
Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”

The meme that the Masters doesn't really start until the back nine on Sunday was never truer than this year.  But just like the Faldo/Norman showdown, we should not let the blow-up of one guy overshadow the terrific play of the other guy.  Willet is a worthy and deserving champion because when the chips were down he came through.

The other lesson, is that is is nowhere near as easy as Tiger made it appear for a dozen years.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Disagree.  Spieth's 2, 1, 2 finishes in his 1st 3 would indicate otherwise, as compared to Tiger's 41, MC, 1.  We'll talk again in 9 years, when Jordan completes his 12th.

Any Oculus users out there who viewed/experienced the VR broadcast this year?

    • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
